The Democrat party is the one who has passed so many pro-abortion laws, not the Republican party. The Republican party is the party that has passed so many pro-life laws which seek to restrict abortion, not the Democrat party.
But the BIG ONE (Roe vs Wade) was ruled into law by mostly Republican-appointed Justices. They broke it and now keep saying they will fix it. Good luck trying to do that by yourselves.

And Romney’s camp didn’t do the same last week? It’s called politics - the phenomenon where truth depends on what glasses you wear.
Absolutely correct…in fact, NPR has stories on both Romney and Ryan’s dances with the facts…you can follow the same link and find them.

Fact checking DNC
THE GLARING OMISSION: GOV. PEV PERDUE (D-NC) SAYS OBAMA HAS A RECORD OF “STANDING UP FOR WOMEN IN NORTH CAROLINA” BUT GLOSSES OVER HOW HIS POLICIES HAVE FAILED WOMEN

THE TRUTH: WOMEN ARE NOT BETTER OFF UNDER OBAMA
Both are matters of opinion.
THE LIE: MAYOR CORY BOOKER CLAIMS THAT THE DNC PLATFORM IS NOT A PARTISAN DOCUMENT
THE REALITY: THE DNC PLATFORM GOES OUT OF ITS WAY TO ATTACK MITT ROMNEY
And Romney/Ryan use every chance they get to attack Obama…what else is new?
THE GLARING OMISSION: REP. CHARLES GONZALEZ (D-TX) FAILS TO SAY HOW HISPANICS ARE DOING UNDER THE OBAMA ECONOMY.
TRUTH: HISPANICS HAVE BEEN HIT HARDER BY THE OBAMA ECONOMY THAN OTHER GROUPS
The even more glaring omission: The ‘Obama economy’ does not exist in a vacuum; it began with not just with a recession, but what many feared was going to be another Great Depression.
THE L****IE: ILLINOIS GOVERNOR PAT QUINN CLAIMED THAT MITT ROMNEY’S MEDICARE PLAN WILL HURT SENIORS
THE REALITY: PRESIDENT OBAMA IS THE ONLY ONE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT WHO HAS CUT MEDICARE BY $716 BILLION
The truth is that BOTH sides plan similar cuts to Medicare funding - the only difference is how and why. BTW, thanks for adding “the only one running for president” and thereby omitting Romney’s VP pick. Really neat, the way you handle TRUTH!
THE GLARING OMISSION: REP. ALLYSON SCHWARTZ (D-PA) SAYS OBAMA IS THE CANDIDATE FOR MEDICARE DESPITE HER BELIEF THAT OBAMA’S IPAB WILL HURT MEDICARE
THE TRUTH: THE INDEPENDENT PAYMENT ADVISORY BOARD (IPAB) IN OBAMACARE PUTS MEDICARE IN DANGER
Opinion.
THE LIE: FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER SAYS OBAMA HAS RESTORED AMERICA’S STANDING IN THE WORLD
THE REALITY: NEW POLLING SHOWS GLOBAL OPINION OF OBAMA’S INTERNATIONAL POLICIES “HAS DECLINED DRAMATICALLY SINCE 2009”
Simply a matter of OPINION, as documented by your own post.
THE GLARING OMISSION: SECRETARY KEN SALAZAR TOUTS OBAMA’S ENERGY POLICY BUT FAILS TO MENTION THAT OIL PRODUCTION ON FEDERAL LANDS HAS DECREASED.
THE TRUTH: While Domestic Oil Production Is At An All-Time High, Production On Federal Lands And Waters Has Dropped Significantly In 2011
So what? An “all-time high” - you said it yourself. What difference does it make which spot of land/sea the oil comes from?
THE GLARING OMISSION: FORMER REPRESENTATIVE ROBERT WEXLER SAYS DEMOCRAT PLATFORM REAFFIRMS OBAMA COMMITMENT TO ISRAEL ON SAME DAY IT CAME OUT PLATFORM DROPPED “JERUSALEM” MENTION
THE TRUTH: DEMOCRAT PARTY PLATFORM DROPS REFERENCE TO JERUSALEM AS THE CAPITAL OF ISRAEL
How does having that language (or for that matter supporting Jerusalem as the capital) help either Israel or the US? What is important is how people can live in peace, not which spots of God’s green earth generations of people are willing to fight and die over just so that their children can grow up and do the same ad infinitum…
FACT CHECK: HARRY REID AT DNC CONVENTION
THE GLARING OMISSION: TAMMY DUCKWORTH FAILS TO MENTION THAT LIFE FOR VETERANS HAS GOTTEN HARDER OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS
THE TRUTH: OBAMA’S POLICIES HAVE FAILED VETERANS
Obviously, opinion, as there are veterans who support Obama.
THE LIE: FORMER OHIO GOVERNOR TED STRICKLAND CLAIMED MITT ROMNEY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OUTSOURCING.
THE REALITY: INDEPENDENT FACT CHECKERS HAVE NOTED THAT THE DEMOCRATS’ OUTSOURCING ATTACKS ARE “MISLEADING, UNFAIR AND UNTRUE
It’s true that outsourcing is not a partisan phenomenon - it’s a money-making one plain and simple. Still, it’s funny how those independent fact checkers don’t get the same attention when they point out Romney/Ryan lies…
THE GLARING OMISSION: IN 2008, MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL TALKED ABOUT THE DANGERS OF “A RECORD DEFICIT” AND “$4 TRILLION IN NEW DEBT”
THE TRUTH: TONIGHT, EMANUEL DOESN’T MENTION EITHER THE DEFICIT OR DEBT
Do you take the best image of yourself to a job interview? Everybody does.
THE LIE: LILLY LEDBETTER SAYS MITT ROMNEY DOES NOT SUPPORT EQUAL PAY
THE REALITY: MITT ROMNEY IS A SUPPORTER OF EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN. PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ECONOMIC POLICIES HAVE LEFT WOMEN STRUGGLING
Words mean nothing without the accompanying actions. Right here on this forum I have seen multiple justifications presented for gender disparities in pay.
THE GLARING OMISSION: DEMOCRAT GOVERNORS FAIL TO MENTION THE SENIORS THAT WILL LOSE THEIR HEALTH CARE BECAUSE OF OBAMACARE
THE TRUTH: OBAMACARE KICKS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SENIORS OFF OF MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
What’s the advantage of Medicare Advantage? On what basis do you claim that seniors will lose health care? Is change the same as loss?
THE OMISSION: MAYOR CASTRO CLAIMS THAT MITT ROMNEY WOULD DISMANTLE THE MIDDLE CLASS
THE TRUTH: UNDER OBAMA THE MIDDLE CLASS IS SHRINKING, INCOMES ARE FALLING AND POVERTY IS REACHING RECORD LEVELS
Are you saying that things cannot get worse? Higher taxes and less access to entitlements could surely worsen the plight of the middle class.
THE LIE: MAYOR JULIAN CASTRO SAYS THAT OBAMA’S POLICIES WORKED AND “NOW WE’VE SEEN 4.5 MILLION NEW JOBS”
THE REALITY: SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE, THE NATION HAS LOST 316,000 JOBS AND THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE HAS INCREASED FROM 7.8 PERCENT TO 8.3 PERCENT
4.5 million jobs is certainly not the whole picture BUT it is not a lie. Both sides cherry pick the ‘facts’ that support their viewpoint.

Oh, well…if David Gergen said it, then it’s a done deal. 😛
David Gurgle makes me nauseous, frankly. He’s just a more intelligent version of Chris Mathews, slobbering all over his love targets.

I think the most sincere and touching speech at the DNC last night was that of Stacey Lihn, the mother whose daughter’s life was saved by means of the Affordable Care Act in Obamacare, which removes the caps on spending for medical procedures. Her family would have had no other way to pay for her daughter’s treatment without this provision, and she is extremely worried that if Romney is elected, this feature of Obamacare will be gutted along with the whole package.

God knows who is His. Calling yourself Catholic and being in good graces with God are not synonymous. This is all fallout from the terrible catechesis of Catholics during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. That, combined with American permissive social liberalism have combined to create a Catholic culture where the average congregant thinks that doctrine can be voted on or ignored if it displeases us.
:sad_yes::clapping:

There should be a “sad applause” smiley. You really nailed it on this issue Scott. I do believe that Pope Benedict will bring this problem to the forefront.

If Romney wins, I don’t see Obamacare being gutted at all. Most likely we’ll hear that technical issues make it difficult to reverse the changes or to prevent those not yet instituted. So a delay will be justified, then delay will turn into cancellation of plans to reverse it, by which time the positive effects will be apparent and people will like it enough to accept it…Eventually, Romney will be able to reclaim authorship of health care reform and by 2016 he’s be proudly claiming all its positive effects as his own! Don’t believe me, wait and see what happens if he wins…😉

Are you sure you’re not a Romney campaign strategist incognito? This scenario sounds plausible to me, given Romney’s track record.

Both are matters of opinion.

Fact not an opinion

Since President Obama Took Office, The Unemployment Rate For Women Has Increased From 7.0 Percent To 8.1 Percent. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 8/3/12)

Since Obama Took Office, The Number Of Unemployed Women Has Increased By 860,000 To 5.9 Million (5,865,000). (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 8/3/12)
And Romney/Ryan use every chance they get to attack Obama…what else is new?
It is a fact not an opinion

“Global Opinion Of President Barack Obama Has Declined Dramatically Since 2009.” “Global opinion of President Barack Obama has declined dramatically since 2009, according to a new survey of the president and his policies in 21 countries. Approval of Obama’s international policies has dropped from 78 percent to 63 percent in Europe; from 34 percent to 15 percent in Muslim Countries; from 40 percent to 22 percent in Russia; and from 57 percent to 27 percent in China, reports the Pew Global Attitudes Project.” (Tim Mak, “World Poll: Chill On Obama Policies,” Politico, 6/13/12)
So what? An “all-time high” - you said it yourself. What difference does it make which spot of land/sea the oil comes from?
Domestic oil drilling has increased mainly on private land in North Dakota. Drilling on public land has decreased by 11%. Nearly 1/2 of refineries along the East coast are closed or operating below capacity because of transporting problems which relates to the Jones act
How does having that language (or for that matter supporting Jerusalem as the capital) help either Israel or the US? What is important is how people can live in peace, not which spots of God’s green earth generations of people are willing to fight and die over just so that their children can grow up and do the same ad infinitum…
Matters because Obama’s relationship with Israel is on rocky ground. Israel maintains its capital is Jersulum and that should be respected.

Obama said in 2008, ‘Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided’ then flip flopped
Obviously, opinion, as there are veterans who support Obama.
Not the point, statiscially life for veterans has got more difficult under Obama

This is the DNC so fact checking is pointed at the claims there not at Romney and Ryan
Do you take the best image of yourself to a job interview? Everybody does.
Hardly the same. Debt crossed $16 trillion day the DNC starts, polls show many Americans are concerned about it because taxpayers will have to pay that debt. It was not addressed, no plan was given on how to decrease debt
Words mean nothing without the accompanying actions. Right here on this forum I have seen multiple justifications presented for gender disparities in pay.
Romney is the person addressed, not people on this forum
What’s the advantage of Medicare Advantage? On what basis do you claim that seniors will lose health care? Is change the same as loss?
Medicare cuts in ObamaTax effect the elderly by cutting medicare advantage payment rates by 2017 an average of $3700 for every person. 27% below what recipients would receive with out ObamaTax. If they lose $3700 annually in Medicare from 65 years old until their death at 78 they would lose $44000 in benefits and medicare spending would increase $25 billion with ObamaTax
Are you saying that things cannot get worse? Higher taxes and less access to entitlements could surely worsen the plight of the middle class.
Things would get worse under continued policies of the Obama admin. These policies have not helped the middle class
4.5 million jobs is certainly not the whole picture BUT it is not a lie. Both sides cherry pick the ‘facts’ that support their viewpoint.
There are less people working now than when Obama took office.

4.5 million from february 2010 (8 months in to the economic recovery) is true but that statistic does not consideration new jobless claims every month during Obama’s presidency. Given population increase 10 million Americans have entered the work force during Obama’s presidency. Job growth is not keeping up with population increase

29 months after Reagon been presiden 8 million jobs had been created. Bush created 4.7 million jobs in the 29 months after July 2003, 200000 more than Obama

DNC hit a grand slam on opening night. David Gergen, former advisor to 3 Republican Presidents and Bill Clinton, said on CNN, 2 more nights like this and the Democrats could pull away.

Showing Senator Kennedy’s debate with Mitt Romney when Romney was pro choice and Kennedy saying Mitt was multiple choice on issues was a good start. It was mentioned that Mitt Romney did not say anything about the troops in Afghanistan last wk at his convention. Gov Deval Patrick did a good job exposing to the American people Romney’s failed record in Mass. It was my first time hearing San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro speak. But I remember in 2004 listening to Barack Obama speak for the first time and saying to myself I had just witnessed the first African American President. I thought as I listened to Mayor Castro that he could someday be the first Latino President. I loved his line about how Romney told Ohio college students to just borrow money from their parents and open a business. And Mayor Castro saying why didn’t I think of that! He also did a good job discussing the need to invest in things such as education, that you can’t be pro business without being pro education. Explained Democrats understand that sometimes people need help pulling up their boot straps. And pointed out Mitt Romney was for healthcare before he was against it. First Lady Michelle Obama was great as usual. Speaking of family and the President’s and her backgrounds. And how President Obama turned down jobs which would have paid a lot more money, to work instead in communities to serve people. Because to Barack Obama success is not determined by how much money you make.

The theme of forward not back was a good one. There were many speakers who brought it home. One of the most touching who actually brought tears to my eyes was the mother whose 6 yr old due to a heart condition had already used a huge amount of her lifetime health care benefits cap before Obamacare.

And how for her daughter and all those with pre existing conditions, we can not turn back.

All in all a great night showing how Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and the Republican Party are out of touch with most of the American people.
*My eleven year old daughter and I would not agree with you. Even she noticed that the DNC did not have the life to it that the RNC had. The DNC seemed stagnant and dead. and filled with death trying to resusitate it’s self. They just do not realize yet that only God can give them the life they are trying to grasp and untill they do they will be stuck in that suffocating choking dying atmosphere of trying to pray upon others by controling them that they are stuck in.

I did watch the poor mother who testified on behalf of Obamacare and how here daughter can now have the care she needs because of it. My heart went out to the poor woman standing there and it ached not just for the pain she is in worrying about health care for her child but also about how exploited we can become when we do not know the facts and are used to try and push forth a sugar coated agenda that is out to enslave all mankind and strip them of ever being able to live freely according to their conscience. After all, from what I have read from several posters on these forums, was not Obamacare rooted in Romneycare? The difference that I have come to understand between the two of them is Romneycare gives her more options as to what kind of care she desires where Obamacare dictates what kind of care one can have. She may be getting care but I wonder if she could be getting better care under a Romneycare program verses an Obamacare program.

Another thought I had watching the DNC was how Nancy Keenan President of NARAL tried to say that abortion was about woman’s choice of treatment for her reproductive system. That is not what abortion is about. It is about the product of a woman’s and man’s reproductive system. It is called a baby. It has nothing to do with who they are at the moment of conception. It has it’s own DNA at the moment of conception. It is an individual just like them but entrusted to them by God for life. Abortion allows them to choose to kill that with which they have been entrusted with.
I wish and pray that the democratic party would stop trying to say people who are choosing life over abortion, even in cases of rape, are trying to “turn back the clock” and understand that it’s not about turning back the clock. It’s about moving forward with this clarification that all persons have a right to Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is about waking up and realizing even more deeply than we ever have before as to how sacred Life is and I believe the RNC Hit a home run that I believe made it all the way up into the book of life and drove the point strait home with making the point that all of us are created for a specific purpose and we are all made in the image of our Creator and that is Sacred. Win or loose this election, they can sleep with their conscience because they know they are making a stand for life, not death.
I hope and pray that when I die and I am face with the source of infinite Life, Mercy and Love that I will be able to live with my conscience for an eternity…

I am not trying to pick on you Mat and I am not sure if any of this makes any sense to you but I believe my daughter and I are seeing something really different than what you see and just thought I would share my two cents on it…*

Where is the MONEY going to come from, meltzerboy? You force insurance companies to pay out without limit? That is going to drive them out of business (which of course is the long-term goal of centralized planners), and then there will be the federal government, and that is ALL there will be. Dear Lord, why can’t people think…

My eleven year old daughter and I would not agree with you. Even she noticed that the DNC did not have the life to it that the RNC had.
That’s odd…I watched it on Fox and they had to go to hand-held microphones because of the noise in the hall. They even made a special point to emphasize that fact.

Guess observations truly are subjective.

John

That’s an interesting point. Do you have the same question when it comes to caring for the elderly?

John

I watched it on CSPAN.
It very well could be that it is subjective and this makes it even more urgent for us to be even more aware of exactly what we are subjecting ourselves too…*

I think many on the libertarian “right” might well agree with Ms. Obama on this. But there’s nothing novel about a mother having the right to snuff out her unborn child - that’s been legal across the country since 1973. Catholics (and others - including Jews) have been making the case for the unborn - the target of that “novel and bizzare idea” as you sarcastically trivialize it. You fall into the euphemism of the left - the “right to make your own choices” means: “right of a mother to kill her unborn child.” Its a phony euphemism designed to divert attention away from what’s really happening.

The “right to love whomever they are in love with” ? So if a 60 year old man is in love with a 13 year old boy, then why not? Bizarre indeed.

Ishii
Well said,Ishii:thumbsup:

That’s an interesting point. Do you have the same question when it comes to caring for the elderly?

John
I do. Especially considering Medicare and Social Security will soon run out of funds, and this president has no plans to address its survival long-term.

Around here, it seems that people are looking for the country to be free for them to practice their faith and have that encouraged and supported, but aren’t really ready to allow that same freedom for those who do not believe EXACTLY as they do.
I haven’t seen any evidence that CAF users support the notion of Catholicism as the exclusively practiced belief in the U.S. You’re going to have to point to specific posts to be credible on this.
