What’s going to happen, I predict, is a bunch of Democratic commentators are going to end the week wishing Bill Clinton or Hillery were running.

By the way, most young Democrats doen’t even know who Bill Clinton is.
Those commentators will have to wait till 2016 when Hillary runs again, unless Bill takes the plunge! LOL

Hillary lost me when she said “I have the white blue collar vote” four years ago.

Still trying to forgive her for this.

She’s doing a fabulous job as Sec. of State though.

Political parties remind me of religions these days. This party is for this, that, and that. The other party is for this, that, and that. Now you decide which party to take: party A or party B.

If you pick Party A, you have to be for this, that, and that. If you pick Party B, you have to be for this, that, and that.

As a Catholic, you have to believe in this, that, and that to be in good condition. As a protestant, you don’t have to believe in this, that, and that, but you can pick what you want to believe (I had to throw that in there somewhere). As a Seventh Day Adventist, you have to believe in the sabbath, saturday, etc. If you do something strange and different, eyebrows might be raised, much like a republican for pro-choice, or a democrat for pro-life.

I can only think political parties are religions, only that they might recognize God outside of their religion, but their interpretations of God may differ.

Being that, we need to get rid of these party religions and vote individually. Sometimes I wish we would be a church-state with the Catholic Church, because I’m worried this country is becoming godless. We have church divisions, but there’s party divisions too. I don’t think any of that has a good result. But let’s vote Catholic first, and make sure that’s our only religion, because there won’t be any parties when Christ returns with his kingdom. Best learn his way.

She’s a pragmatist and didn’t think Obama could win enough of the White vote. A touch of liberal racism and classism as well perhaps. I still voted for her in the primary.

PS… How long does he get to talk anyway…
I understand that in order to get Clinton to speak they had to agree not to censor, review, or otherwise edit any of his prepared remarks. He gets to say what he wants for as long as he wants. And, really, why would any sane candidate want to put a leash on one of the greatest presidential orators of all time when he’s speaking in your favor. You may not agree with his politics or his personal affairs but he is one of the greats in terms of public speaking.
I don’t know if most of you were watching coverage of Bill Clinton on FOX or how many were watching CNN as I was. But Wolf Blitzer said that may have been the best speech he has ever heard Bill Clinton give in his life. And a Republican commentator and consultant Alex Castellanos said that probably just re-elected Barack Obama. Amazing speech!
Completely agree! I believe a speech like that from a man as popular and influential as Bill Clinton can make or break an election for whatever candidate he supports.

Boy, I can’t disagree more. Bill Clinton is no king maker. I guess we will know with what the polls do in a week. As I said before most of the young voters don’t know who Bill Clinton is, and many of us older folks have a bad taste in our mouths from when he was in office. The speech may have been a good speech, but it will past into history as just that, a good speech.

Well the little bit I had MSNBC on tonight for their convention coverage, I did see Chris Matthews ( Yes I know not a favorite of hardly anyone’s here) and here was his prediction. It is all Hillary in 4 yrs. Andrew Cuomo and MD’s Mark O’ Malley want to run. But the field will clear for Hillary. The economy will be recovering by then. Preferably Hillary will not be running against an incumbant. And running in the footsteps of Democrat Barack Obama’s good economy by then, she wins. That’s just what Matthews said before I get jumped on as if I said it.

A speaker of Clinton’s abilities could have made a convincing case for Romney as well, if he chose to. However, I’m sure that for most people on this Forum, the greater magic is his case for Obama.

I’m sure there are various polls but recently I heard of one where his popularity with the American people is over 60% today and someone said tonight on CNN he has good support among independents nowadays.

One thing the Clinton speech does is that it raises the bar for Obama. Now people will compare Obama’s speech with Clinton’s.

There is a strict rule in politics: Don’t upstage the candidate

Clinton may have broken that rule tonight.

Who is he?

If Romney gets elected and the economy improves, Hillary may not want to run. Similarly, if Obama gets elected and the economy does not improve, she’ll likely bow out.

Thanks Abyssinia! (I feel like I’ve got a secretary saving my eyesight from hours of back and forth searching). 🙂

And the price is right!

Indeed. Clinton is smart enough to know that people, whether they know it or not, like to have raw numbers, or “arithmetic” as he put it, thrown at them. Doesn’t matter if its right or not. He knows that it will get people interested in really looking into the issues if only initially to fact check and his bet is that that interest will ultimately translate into votes for Obama.

I think Obama can hold his own when it comes to delivering a speech. That’s what got him elected to begin with.

Endorsements tend not to matter much historically, for either side. Even the “Big Dog’s”. His endorsement wasn’t enough for Hillary to win the 2008 primary.
