Obama became president in January 2009, the recession ended in June 2009 before any of his economic “plan” kicked in. Instead of allowing the economy to recover on its own Obama has done everything he could to prevent it from gaining any traction.
To quote from last evening’s speech,
"In Tampa, the Republican argument against the president’s re-election was pretty simple: ‘We left him a total mess, he hasn’t finished cleaning it up yet, so fire him and put us back in,’
I think we’ll be hearing a lot of that one, and several others,

John

He was left with a country that was entering a recovery after the burst of a bubble and he screwed it up - just like the US’s AAA credit rating.

Entering a recovery? 750,000 jobs lost in Jan. 2009…that’s some recovery. Remember too, the unemployment peaked in 2009. Whose budget were we operating under? Then trickle down (AKA Voodoo) kicked in…our recession trickled down to the rest of the world economy.

We were operating off the democrat’s budget.

I can’t watch. Either one. I never thought I would say this… but…

1: I have lost all remaining faith in our government. Not our republic, or our Consttution, but the men and women we have elected and our dubious candidates.

2: I have lost all faith in my fellow Americans to make intelligent choices when selecting candidates, and to vote intelligently in general elections.

Our un-educated, self-centered, brainless, un-washed society has no :::bleeping::: clue how a nation should be run. The founding fathers did NOT have 21st century Americans in mind when they founded the United States.

If they vacated the White House and the Capitol, I wonder how long the doors would have to be left open for the stench to go away?

Longer phrases and words with more syllables vs shorter phrases with fewer syllables.
A good example might be “reproductive rights of women” vs “killing babies in their mothers’ womb.” No wonder the Dems like the higher grade reading levels. Obfuscation is good.
Sad but true.😊

Steve Schmidt is one of the token Republicans on MSNBC. He was McCain’s campaign manager in 2008.
Steve Schmidt, the guy who hates Palin, is a borderline conservative, and ran a losing campaign?

Anyone can admit Clinton is a good speech giver. On the positive, it was well delivered, and had some specifics. On the negative, it was MUCH too long for the average voter, was too “wonky” in terms of policy, and it was competing with the NFL’s opening night.

There is no way these speeches end up changing campaigns these days though. They can give a surge to a campaign, but that;s why they are called bounces - they generally come back down.

This is your conventions of yesteryearm where candidates can still be enigmas. We know everything there is to know, and those who don’t aren’t watching the conventions, as evidenced by the ratings.

After the dust settles, the speeches fade and it comes down to your own personal life, and sadly, apparently campaign ads, since they are shown to be effective (though I’ve never been persuaded by an ad in my life). The conventions today are generally to rally the base.

Given how tight the race is and has been, I suspect it will come down to which candidate gets a better turnout.

I think he’s given some very good speeches over the last few years. People who don’t share the same vision for the country will naturally disagree. Of course…they were far better than the deer-in-head-lights/butchery of the english language talks other Presidents have given. But, honestly, I don’t think we’ve had a Presidential orator like the one you describe since FDR. We’re living in very partisan times.
I’d throw Reagan in there.

Well the little bit I had MSNBC on tonight for their convention coverage, I did see Chris Matthews ( Yes I know not a favorite of hardly anyone’s here) and here was his prediction. It is all Hillary in 4 yrs. Andrew Cuomo and MD’s Mark O’ Malley want to run. But the field will clear for Hillary. The economy will be recovering by then. Preferably Hillary will not be running against an incumbant. And running in the footsteps of Democrat Barack Obama’s good economy by then, she wins. That’s just what Matthews said before I get jumped on as if I said it.

Hillary is old and tired. She looks like, as we say in Texas, she’s been “rode hard and put up wet.” She hasn’t got another campaign in her, and of course Bill cannot run. He gave HIS OWN campaign speech last night, not Obama’s. My husband said if he could run again, the Democrats would elect him instead of Obama. The man is one of the smoothest liars I have ever had the displeasure to hear. Unlike the Obama, he actually believes his lies and wants you to believe them as well. And he could sell ice to the Eskimos, as the phrase goes.

Just like President Obama inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression from G. W. Bush. Just like Clinton inherited an economy on its way down from G.H.W. Bush. So this argument doesn’t wash.

John
Clinton recession of 2000. Carter malaise/stagflation. Obama economy - high unemployement/low economic growth/anemic recovery. Argument washes.

but did you watch it? the nos were at least as many as the yays
Unfortunately, that clip will last into history far longer than any one speech. It is getting more air time today than any of the speeches, and is much easier to show in repeated clips for months and years than a 50 minute speech. It was such a disorganized mess. Panning in onto individual delegates booing really left a bad mark on day 2.

No one booed God. A word in a political platform is not God. Surely rLg you don’t believe it is. I can’t believe the fuss that was created over a word not being in a platform. There was a whole section about faith and the importance of faith even before the candidate insisted the platform better reflect his own belief in God and view in regard to Jerusalem. And a vast number of other Democrats at the convention have spoken of God. At least the Democratic candidate did something about some words in the platform to better reflect his beliefs and view. President Obama believes in God. Is a Christian. Attends church. Has received communion when he’s attended. As far as the chair, I heard at the Republican convention the same thing was done with regard to a rule change. End of story.
Why can’t you and some dems admit that roll call was a debacle? There is literally no way to spin that as anything but a negative. The Mayor was perplexed, the random woman appearing on stage was odd, and the footage of angry delegates does not inspire anyone watching. Again, the best news is not that many people watch the conventions, so we’ll see if it had an impact.

The numbers don’t lie, and even politifact was kind of shocked if you read the article. It’s true.

Oh…and if a single President is going to get the blame, then they should get the credit too.
Then by the same token, you can’t blame republicans being unwilling to work with the President, if Clinton is going to get the credit. Clinton was dragged kicking and screaming by the republican congress starting in 1994, but he gets the credit. Which is fine. But the same standard applies to Obama, or any president, including Bush. The fault lies with them, fair or not, and arguing congress was against the President doesn’t have any weight.

Indeed. This is all to detract from the fact that Obama had both houses of Congress for 2 years, and the “summer of recovery” never occured.

Carter part deaux.

Here’s one…it was a phenomenally stupid move…both times…taking it out, though such language is unnecessary, and putting it back.

That being said, I think Ole Bill made most, not all, of the delegates forget all about it. Kind of like Ann Romney and a few others soothed some, not all ruffled Republican feathers.

At least these floor fights added some suspense to two otherwise boring conventions.
