i will not be watching obama’s speech tonight. it will be all lies and falsehoods.why go through the frustration? i can hear about it tomorrow on the radio.
i can’t stand to see the faces of the people who will be breathlessly awaiting each word to come out of his mouth.
the convention is very hedonistic i think.

the frenzy surrounding the democrat convention is like a shark feeding frenzy.
i thought clinton’s speech was all over the place last night. maybe because the people at the convention seemed to have a short attention span. as usual, he was not short on words.
i hope after the convention is over and people return home and settle into their routine,
the republicans will have a chance to regain the attention of the american public and will do well in the debates.

I saw a lot of ethnic diversity in positions of power at the RNC. Not so much at the DNC, yet. In fact, I can’t think of one rousing speech by a minority at the DNC that can beat Condoleeza Rice, Susannah Martinez, Marco Rubio and the others.

I’ll remember those speeches for a long time, not because of their talking points, but because the questions and issues they raised.

👍👍👍 the speeches given at the RNC convention had class. they were inspirational and had substance. they were speaking to us like adults .

too bad i can’t say the same about the DNC.

It’s dishonest and manipulative how many Democrat surrogates twist the story to one where having a Swiss account means hiding money, and it’s also very sad that people eat it up without exercising a little independent thought.

I was in the tax business for decades and while I understand the basic “fairness” question that some people raise regarding the taxes that wealthy people pay, they always leave out a lot of information.

First of all, just using Romney as an example, he didn’t inherit a lot of money. Or to be more precise, anything he got he gave away, so he didn’t benefit from it financially, except whatever tax benefit he got (if any) from the donation. But just taking the accumulation of his own wealth as an example, this is what he did:


  1. *]First, he earned money the old fashioned way, by earning a salary from his job.
    *]Then he was lucky enough to be able to afford to save some of that money and invest it.
    *]At his company, Bain Capital, there were also other investors, such as pension funds etc. who invest in companies like Bain because of the good rate of return.
    *]When Romney earned his salary, a good one, he was taxed on it, no doubt at a nice healthy rate, the sort of rate that would be considered “fair” even by those who complain about tax rate “fairness”.
    *]When he earned money from the investments he managed to accumulate over time from saving part of his salary, he was taxed AGAIN. The tax code taxes these earnings at a lower rate specifically because the funds have already been taxed once. This double taxation is often left out of any discussion of this subject.
    *]Romney has never taken a salary from any government post he has held. He took no salary as Governor of Massachusetts, he didn’t even take a salary for turning around the Olympics in Salt Lake City. This is a big contrast to the politicians who somehow become millionaires while Members of Congress, etc.
    *]Finally, Romney made a lot of money for a lot of other people, whether they were pension funsd, other investors, or employees of the companies he saved. His experience is an interesting contrast to President Obama, who made his millions writing books about himself. Both of them are millionaires, both enjoyed a privileged upbringing, but Romney’s work has actually benefited others. I can’t see what Obama has done himself to earn money for other people.
    *]For the last several years, all of Romney’s money has been in a “blind trust”. This means he may have access to the earnings, but he doesn’t direct where the investments are made. So all this talk about Romney having offshore accounts or Swiss bank accounts (something many Democrats also have) is a red herring because it is not Romney who made the decision to put the money in those accounts, the trustee of the Blind Trust did that.

    I’m not a big Romney fan, although I will probably vote for him over Obama. But I think the truth needs to be told, the whole truth. And when it comes to this subject, something I know a lot about, I can confirm that significant facts are being omitted.

I worked in taxes for decades.

I can tell you that US Citizens are taxed on their worldwide income. There is no tax advantage to having a bank account in a foreign country unless you do not report the income, which is against the law. There is a question on your tax return where you have to answer whether you have a bank account outside of the US. If you answer “no” when the answer is actually “yes”, it is fraud, so if you do this you risk prosecution, fines and penalties.

The reason people know that Mitt Romney has a Swiss bank account is because he reported it on his tax return, and paid taxes on any earnings associated with the account. Obviously there was no “tax savings” if he reported the account and paid the tax.

This is a non-issue that is being spread by those who hope to take advantage of those voters who do not have knowledge of the facts. I find it to be predatory and deceitful, not to mention disrespectful to the voter in question.
 
The whole offshore account thing wasn’t a problem for liberals when John Kerry ran in '04. He’s worth over a billion… which is a lot more than Mitt is worth.

Oh, and unlike Romney, Kerry has been taking his salary for serving in the government. :nope:

Actually, as the article clearly states, Ms. Boo-Boo beat the Republican Convention…not tied.
People could draw all kinds of conclusions, but one is certain…We’re in big trouble.
