Democrats now critical of Rice's Benghazi explanation, amid more damaging evidence

The idea of a rescue mission was also debunked by military officials in earlier hearings, but that hasn’t stopped that old idea from being recycled.
Actually it wasn’t, the military has since said they were willing and able but were told to stand down.

The deputy of slain U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens has told congressional investigators that a team of Special Forces prepared to fly from Tripoli to Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks was forbidden from doing so by U.S. Special Operations Command Africa.
The account from Gregory Hicks is in stark contrast to assertions from the Obama administration, which insisted that nobody was ever told to stand down and that all available resources were utilized. Hicks gave private testimony to congressional investigators last month in advance of his upcoming appearance at a congressional hearing Wednesday.
According to excerpts released Monday, Hicks told investigators that SOCAFRICA commander Lt. Col. Gibson and his team were on their way to board a C-130 from Tripoli for Benghazi prior to an attack on a second U.S. compound “when [Col. Gibson] got a phone call from SOCAFRICA which said, ‘you can’t go now, you don’t have the authority to go now.’ And so they missed the flight … They were told not to board the flight, so they missed it.”

Martin Bashir, MSNBC and Salon and others are coming out with articles to try to minimize this story. Don’t be suprised to see this tactic go around.

The testimony is explosive, I’ve caught snippets. Really, this could see people out of office so some have to run with the line, we know all this, “what difference does it make” etc.

Mike Huckabee: Obama will be removed from office over Benghazi
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has predicted that President Obama will not finish his second term because whistle-blower revelations will prove he was complicit in a “cover-up” in the Benghazi consulate affair.
According to Think Progress, during his radio show, “The Mike Huckabee Show” on Friday morning, the Fox News host compared the Benghazi affair to President Nixon’s Watergate scandal and dropped the hint that President Obama should be impeached over the affair which he described as “more serious than Watergate.”
Politico reports he said: “I believe that before it’s all over, this president will not fill out his full term. I know that puts me on a limb. But this is not minor. It wasn’t minor when Richard Nixon lied to the American people and worked with those in his administration to cover-up what really happened in Watergate. But, I remind you — as bad as Watergate was, because it broke the trust between the president and the people, no one died. This is more serious because four Americans did in fact die.”

Five Key Points from Today’s Benghazi Hearing (So Far)
**1. Two “stand-down” orders were given while the Benghazi attacks were in progress.
**
2. The “protest” about a YouTube video was a complete fabrication by the Obama administration.
  1. Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s lawyer at the State Department, told witnesses not to speak to House investigators.
  1. The diplomatic personnel on the ground acted with incredible, unheralded heroism.
5. Democrats came to rebut the eyewitnesses with talking points.

The whole system caters to low information voters who’ll enable a party system providing political office as a career and source of power.

A party system where most voters think of their party like a sports team vice their paid employees. Doesn’t matter what the politician says/believes/votes/does as long as he has their sport team’s donkey/elephant logo.
Bingo!

Plenty here about the assessment of the military situation…lots of quotes from the original investigation. BTW, Hicks is talking out of both sides of his mouth…on one hand he claims that military forces could have been successful (Disputed from the outset)…on the other he is saying that they were concerned about walking into a trap.
It’s all out there…now John McCain is on Fox saying that we could have at least done a flyover…lots of second guessing…and very little else.

Oh mercy oldcelt, out of respect for your valiant effort I actually read your link. Quoting Media Matters is rather like me quoting something from the RNC. Hilariously they “prove” opinions by claiming the opinons are wrong. Fox says it’s politicized! We say no! PROVEN!!

As to the military argument, I don’t think this hearing is about whose judgement would have proved superior, who or what could have saved the personnel, but rather to point out that the American people were lied to from the beginning. It was so apparent and yet they held onto the lie, pushing things down the road until Obama could be safely elected.

I think that it has become clear, even to the Leftist media, that the YouTube story was a ruse from start, that the original reports were scrubbed in favor of the more politically expedient story, and that continuing this fabrication made the subsequent investigation nearly impossible.

Like roaches scurrying when the lights went on, suddenly all of those complicit in pushing the lie have disappeared.

Agree, this is not my concern either.

This is my concern about the whole incident.

Except those getting mad and banging the table.

Ah okay. So the claim is that there was a huge cover up about the attack so as to not hurt the presidents chances at re-election. Got it.
It’s not a “claim”, Gricken. A cover-up to preserve Obama’s re-election chances is the only explanation that makes even the remotest of sense. Obama lied, Hillary lied, Rice lied, four patriotic Americans died! :sad_yes: Rob

Lisa…their conclusions are not the issue…the quoted statements are…and it’s not like no one here ever uses right-wing sources…It is interesting to me how the GOP supporters keep shifting the target. Which is it…the youtube video…which virtually everyone I have heard admits was a mistake. …or…the lack of military action…or… should we have done a flyover…and so on and so on.
This highly anticipated hearing has thus far produced nothing that changes any material fact. Eventually, even the most hard core will have to accept that this is going nowhere.

And I really like the Mike Huckabee statement that was posted by Broom…makes me smile.

A mistake? Forgetting to turn my blinker on is a mistake. Typing my password in caps instead of lowercase is a mistake. Trying to perpretrate a fraud upon 300 million people to cover the deaths of 4 people is not a “mistake”.

Just sayin’ it don’t make it so…there are actually any number of possibilities including that the people involved were doing the best they could under the circumstances…BTW…those four Americans were already dead…actions in the next days (post Sept. 11) have not one thing to do with their deaths.

Well, when anyone produces any proof that there was an effort to perpetrate a fraud, then you’ll have a point. It hasn’t been produced up to now and there are what…five separate investigations going on right now.

Are you refusing to read the sworn testimony being reported?

Media Matters? The admitted liars of the media and the official propaganda wing of the Obama Administration?
