Democrats now critical of Rice's Benghazi explanation, amid more damaging evidence

At the time I was being given this explanation I had no way checking it myself. So as far as I was concerned, yes it was a claim. I realize now that that is not the case.

how convenient that they now don’t believe the explanation ~8 months after the attack! How convenient that they now don’t believe the explanation 6 months after the Presidential Election and more than a year before midterm elections.

He was too busy watching tv to answer the Ambassador’s phone calls and didn’t even notice until someone barged into the room to tell him that the consulate was under attack. That seems like a good place to start.

Did you hear the testimony preceding the missed calls? He said it was a routine day. I realize to you and me, living in Tripoli might not be routine but he had been involved in this type of work for decades. I believe he is the witness who had also been posted in Iraq and other hotspots. So after work he was at his villa relaxing. I don’t know that showed poor judgement. It was just another day.

Further, in the immediate aftermath of the attack he received SEVERAL commendations, a phone call from Obama himself and expressions of appreciation for his action on the night of the attack. The demotion occurred after he questioned Ms Rice’s appearance on the Sunday shows.

I don’t think it was a mere coincidence.

The initial attack on Benghazi had nothing to do with the video.

But we were told it did. The press played along with that.

And in protest to that video, there were riots days after elsewhere than Libya.

And this is the part that is not clear, reportedly, people died in those subsequent riots.
Angry Egyptian protesters stormed the U.S. embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, tearing down the American flag in protest of a film believed to be insulting to the Prophet Mohammed. Just hours later, in Benghazi, Libya, armed protestes stormed the U.S. Consulate, killing four, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, before setting the consulate ablaze.

So,without being led on that this obscure video was a cause, these additional protests may not have happened, if that is so, this could be additional wrongdoing.

Except that it wasn’t just another day and he would have known that sooner had he shut off the boob tube for 5 minutes to answer his phone. I don’t begrudge the man his relaxation but it should never interfere with his duties.

The demotion occurred after his account of events were reviewed. He should have been demoted because he was essentially asleep at the wheel. I don’t see a conspiracy here. 🤷

Sorry, I’m just joining this conversation. So are we going to blame the whistleblower rather than the Administration?

At what point did Presidents stop saying “The buck stops here”? 😉

I agree, Maso. But the big difference today is that the press today, which, unlike during the Watergate era, exists to protect the corrupt liars in the Obama administration. And liberals who railed against Nixon in the 70’s now stand silent today in the face of the coverup of Benghazi. They are hypocrites in their defense of Obama.

I don’t believe any one person should be blamed. I blame the bureaucracy and if you listen to the testimony of Mr. Hick, the number of people he had to call who then had to call someone else who then had to call someone else etc is enough to make your head spin.

There were 12 attacks on our embassies in which 50 people were killed between 2001-2008 and the buck stopped…well…nowhere because there were no congressional investigations or thinly veiled partisan witch hunts. Of course, now there’s a Democrat in the oval office and a Benghazi truther movement which will never be satisfied until they can parade someone’s head on a pike. 🤷

This is the talking point, there’s nothing here. MSNBC or Media Matters couldn’t be better resources. 🤷

Our electoral system should not be subjected to concealing vital information that could effect the outcome. And those are just starters.

So Watergate where no one died was okay to investigate but this isn’t? Right.

That anti-Islam video was very obscure and had nothing to do with the Terrorist attack in Benghazi, yet once it became publicized, there were riots in other parts of the Muslim world.

Hillary Clinton and Obama even made a video shown in Pakistan denouncing the video.

One has to wonder what this is all about? Was there an actual effort to inflame this sentiment in that part of the world?

Apparently people didn’t think the 50 deaths resulting from the 12 embassy attacks between 2001-2008 were worth investigating. What’s the difference? Do you want those to be investigated too?

No, just the ones that the president and secretary of state lie about for political reasons. I’m guessing the other embassy attacks didn’t involve lies and coverups. See the difference? I hope you do but I have my doubts.
