Do Catholics still support Trump

His lack of compunction, feeling that need not ask for God’s forgiveness.
So you recommend a public confession? That hasn’t been a norm of even the Catholic Church for many centuries.

How do you know his relationship with God, and whether he repents? You know everything about him from one interview? The man has gone from supporting abortion and a host of other evils and repented, though not perfect, I would say he is moving to a position closer to the Church’s position on the issues.

dvdjs:
David may have committed a more serious act, but expressed deep remorse and begged for forgiveness. Trump has specifically spoken against asking for God’s forgiveness. What is the greatest sin here?
Which sin do you suggest Trump repent of?
Let’s start with the sexual assault he already admitted.

I made not such recommendation. If you would like to discuss what I post, rather thatn things that you put in my mouth, I’d be glad to do so.

Consider someone who had blurted out something of such gravity that was not really characteristic of them, or that they had repented of and changed. My estimation is, against with something of that gravity, a person in that situation would work hard to alter the record.

I am not certain of Trump’s position on abortion - any more that I was of Rep. Tim Murphy’s. What is the host of other evils that you have come to believe that Trump has repented of, and what are the reasons for you belief?

I didn’t mention he repented of a host of evils, where did you get that idea?

For all the commentators here who think they know Trump, what he really thinks, what his relationship with God is, what his true stance is on abortion, etc, and that they know all about his personal life and what he knows and what he doesn’t, I have a simile for you.

For some light hearted comic relief, you are all like the lip readers in this next video 🙂

What is the feeling in your Spirit, as you ask the questions? Can you make a list of the many good things he’s done? This man is our Pres. and deserves respect. We who support him, knew he would be different. We want different!
Do you want the same phony front behavior, we’ve had from long termed politicians. Can you list open Mic flaws? Use of four letter words. Hostile, true feelings about ppl, that they say, they support.
Our govt has a phony face, some of the time. They have an agenda, not always ours. The FBI, has been protecting HRC from charges shows its failure. They tell us, this is a crime but for her it’s reckless. Destroying emails after a subpoena was given…Really!
Concerning Bannon=he was fired. Flynn, was good, hired and found to have a problem and let go.
That’s all you can ask. Hire good ppl, if found they have a problem, let go…

Your outrage is noted, but actually King David was worse in certain respects, because he used his political power to kill his general and sleep with his wife. Trump didn’t kill anyone and sleep with anyone of his staff’s wives in office.
That is what David did. That is not who he was. The Scripture says that he was a man after God’s own heart.

Early on in this thread, criticism was given against those who were judging Trump. However, in a democracy, judging who is best suited for a job is what the electorate does. With Donald Trump, he had no past political experience by which to judge his suitability to the highest political office. I could not judge by what he said because of his numerous inconsistencies and contradictions. I simply do not believe him to be honest. Since I always consider character as important as position, I asked myself what he was characterized by. Was he a man after God’s own heart, or more a man driven by lust, greed and/or hunger for power?

By the way, I appreciate your contributions to a reasonable discourse. We should always remember that we have a responsibility to behave as charitably here as we would in person.

No, that is not “all you can ask.” He doesn’t talk like that–as if someone who pleases him in one respect is therefore beyond criticism in every other respect–does he?

For instance, the President nominated an attorney for a life-long appointment to the federal bench when the nominee wasn’t even familiar with the most basic rules for running a trial. That is NOT “hiring good people.” That is an irresponsible nomination. It is irresponsible to allow positions that need to be filled to go unfilled or to nominate individuals who very clearly do not have the credentials needed to do the job well in the first place. That’s a big failure, and whatever else he has done that is right doesn’t make it OK to fail at that.

Second, I don’t know how the President is seen as an outstanding example of someone who isn’t guilty of “phony front behavior” simply because he feels free to be rude and insulting. That isn’t honesty. That’s just naked aggression. There is nothing refreshing about that.

The office of the President deserves respect, but the President doesn’t deserve to have everyone pretend that he is acting in a way fitting to his office when he is not. That isn’t honest, either. Why would people who say they love “honesty” from the President, who think it is great when he is rude and insulting to people he thinks aren’t up to par, somehow NOT believe it is just fine when people talk about the President in just the same way he talks about others, including those who ALSO hold offices that deserve respect: members of Congress, Supreme Court justices, heads of other states? That’s just hypocrisy.

In other words, if he can’t take it, he shouldn’t feel so free to dish it out. If he deserves respect, he should also be expected to show respect to others who also deserve it. He’s not the only official on the planet who holds a position deserving of respect, after all!

Okay, I’m sorry, when you rephrased what I said a different way I took your meaning differently than what I said. what I meant is he no longer supports abortion, same sex marriage, euthanasia, legalization of drugs, etc

Unfortunately for the country those kind of people never seem to appeal to the public. Jeb Bush was my first choice, but seeing he was not going to win, I changed in hopes Trump would at least be better than Hillary.

If you recall, TRUMP DID NOT BACK -MOORE. That was Steve Bannon’s Guy.
We cannot expect any Pres. To complete all promises in first year.POTUS is under attack from the L=RESISTANCE (Which is TREASON) and politicians from the establishment. Six GOP Senators took money from George Soros. ??? How could they?! We all agree that Our President did not use polite political tactics in debates. He’s nor racist.
He has black friends. He hired minorities. He doesn’t have to have a family member marry a black person to prove it. Now, sexist=Yes. I hate sounding disparaging about men but 70%(?) are sexist. My family and military experiences, were men were sexist. There are good, Holy men. I’ve met a few.
But, he isn’t stupid and will change his fraternity type antics.
His IQ debate. It depends on whose testing and which test. Statistics can be manipulated.
His is 126 to 146. It was erroneously estimated before at 156 but the standards used were questionable. The 129-146 were results of different sources. It was interesting looking up Pres.’s IQ’s.
Check in on highest IQ’s. One 5 yo, spoke 5 languages. Knew advanced math. Harvard rejected him b/c of emotional immaturity. They had to admit him at 11yo. Students picked on him and was withdrawn. Died poor and isolated ( late 1890’s to early 1900’s.) Anyway, Trump has an undignified, spontaneous personality that is shaking up a stale, slightly corrupt govt. He,also, enjoys playing w ppl who mock him. I enjoy it as well. Except for NOKO and the L, most countries enjoyed him. Jerusalem should have waited till next year. It needed to be done.,

How many ppl, are trying to change viewpoints of both sides. Who have teachable Spirits?
Jesus loves Trump and Kim Young UN. Why do we have different value systems? We are a country of laws. The courts have been eroding the Constitution. God has spoken to some of us, that He wanted Trump. When 4 yrs are over, we’ll see what promises he completes. Create in us, a clean heart, Oh Lord. The Truth will make us free. Which truth do we look for. Pro lifeYes! One Planned Parenthood clinic closed. He’s got great judges to put in courts. Source of HERITAGE FOUNDATION. Donated Personal money for disasters-5 mil$$. Donating salaries1.natl parks.2.Education.
Where are we looking for our info?

Okay, but how much do read of his writings and listen to his speeches? I don’t know too much about your politics in your place of residence and the Brexit, but I am not convinced that Brexit was too well thought out either by the majority of the UK. But I degress from the topic.

Irelands decision for gay marriage and the like is fateful and shows a weakening of Christianity and a lessening of faithful Catholics in politics in Ireland.

For a place which has such a strong Catholic heritage, it is a contradiction and a scandal.

PeterG,
Sweet child of God. POTUS is not, nor ever will be Jesus. There are Saints who had quirks ( offensive quirks). Don’t ask… it comes down to goals. It’s not mannerisms. He’s been under attack from L since he won. In fact w such anger & emotional hysteria, that we could question the source behind this palpable hate.,
We have pro-life. Judges given by Heritage Foundation. He trusts them. GOP OK’d list. I’m not sure of which Judge you reference. You know, maybe, he’ll not make one best choice. It’s not his motive.
We have Christmas’s. We have federal buses can be used by Christian schools b/c the First Ammendment doesn’t mean Christians are to be punished. It means our govt. cannot Force the ppl to be a set religion. Our govt cannot stop our practicing our religion. Christian is not a dirty word. Those offended can get over it. We have to accept worldly stuff very offensive. Pornography.
There is a site about our Pres. Achievements.
He’s a New Yorker w a fighting spirit. He will not hit any button unless the other button is hit first.
There are forces that are behind our feelings.,
We should all love and respect like Christ. Legitimate complaints should be fact checked. One should balance out accomplishments w his personality flaws.
I’m weary. I’ve listened. I’m more accepting of him.
Having liberal agendas to me is more sinful than POTUS’s personality quirks, which are accepted if he gives you money.,
God, open up our Spirits to see Your work. In Jesus name . Amen.

GOD, GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS, I CANNOT CHANGE.
THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN…
AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

He publicly stated that he doesn’t ask God for forgiveness… during an interview during the campaign. This is well known - you don’t have to take my word for it… a simple Google search will bring up the footage.

Well there is a rather simple yet fitting explanation for that, US politics has much more weight for Ireland than Irish politics for the US. The US is a superpower, Ireland is not. Not to brag 🙂

My ancestors come from county Mayo and Cork, and my family visits Ireland at times, my cousin is the president of the Irish American society in the US, so I keep up on the old world from time to time.

How do you mean? I suppose a lot of people think of Ireland as it was when most people’s ancestors came over, especially during the potato famine, but other than that I think most people don’t know Ireland much at all. Some Americans know little of their own country at that.
