I will concentrate on his public record and political accomplishments.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation wipes away past sins for good. Newt has made it clear that he is sorry. I think most voters are intelligent enough to look at who Newt is today, and the fact that his ex-wife came out with that interview at this time of all times, will not sway anyone.

I’m more concerned with his ethics charge and that fact that his own party leaders kicked him out of the Speaker position and didn’t like the way he worked with people. In other words, his leadership ability.

I could care less about his marriage difficulties and past infidelities.
I think those are all positive and speak to his effectiveness. Ethics charges were dropped. The only time the Republicans haven’t legislated like Democrats in 20 years is when Newt was speaker. He has been the single most effective Republican in 20 years. I think that speaks to his leadership abilities.

Gingrich delivers show-stopper at beginning of South Carolina debate

edition.cnn.com/2012/01/19/politics/gop-debate/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

“To take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primary a significant question in a presidential campaign is as close to despicable as anything I can imagine,” Gingrich told King, the moderator of the debate.
Gingrich’s response elicited loud applause from the audience.

" So I think the objective of ABC was to take Mitt out this week, or to just do damage. And I think they were saving Marianne Gingrich for Monday after the vote, after Newt wins or theoretically wins South Carolina, then they run the Marianne interview, and that takes Newt out of, and then who we left with?"
“As far as they’re concerned, Santorum and Ron Paul. And they think, okay, that’s it, Obama’s won now, and there’s nothing the Republicans can do. Drudge, on the 14th anniversary of posting the Lewinsky story, runs his story last night that ABC’s got this Marianne tape, and they’re in this big ethical debate over when to run it, which forced them to move it up. In my opinion – I’m guessing – but from everything I’ve read, I think that their decision was to wait 'til Monday on the Marianne thing after South Carolina, 'cause the indications are that Newt was gonna win there or get very, very close, and if that happened, it would be because ABC thinks they took Romney out this week with all the stories that they’ve run on the Mormon church and the 15% tax rate and the Caymans and who knows what else. Do you know, somebody has assigned a reporter to check into the polygamy of Romney’s grandfather.”

Drudge Screwed Up ABC’s Plans for the Marianne Gingrich Interview

“Now, if Newt can hold onto enough of the Republican base, he might take 20% of the Democrat vote with this. You know how this stuff is a resume enhancement in the Democrat Party.”

Newt Grandstands. Doesn’t address the question.
Attacks Media.

Friendly Audience / Rubes / Fools

Newt makes generic excuses. Doesn’t apologize. Glosses over his culpability.

Sets up straw man, that it’s the media.

Even though his pompous performance, was just a grandiose version of his side of the “HE SAID/SHE SAID”

Just like he couldn’t admit it was hypocritical to go after being asked about him going after Bill Clinton in the 90’s when he was guilty of the exact same thing.

Conservatives/GOP party is no different than the Democrats by this point. They just pretend to be. And social conservatives need to get their act together, than be played by a party that doesn’t care about.
You really have to be disingenuous, to talk about family values then mislead, and conservatives really have to be desperate to dismiss Newt and blame all accusers.

The Left will attack Gingrich and the GOP for being hypocrites, and they have every right to…

And any tolerance from Catholics of not vetting Newt , and being tolerant of his dishonesty.

“Open Marriage” is a big deal. That Newt couldn’t answer it, builds walls using his family? Makes me question if he’s really worked on penances, reconciling with God.

And I’m sure the Democrats have more dirt, to withhold depending on Newt being a nominee.
In response to his denials, Marianne Gingrich told ABC News that she was disappointed the former speaker couldn’t own up to his actions and apologize. She stuck by her story.
“If he had really changed, he could have stepped up tonight and said he was sorry,” she said. “But he never has.”

“Every person in here knows personal pain. … to take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primary a significant question in a presidential campaign is as close to despicable as anything I can imagine,” he said.
Bill Clinton called from 1998, Newt…He wants you to stop asking about his personal sins.
Gingrich Daughters " open marriage charge " not true.
Yeah because daughters from the first marriage are going to believe the woman that stole daddy away from our mommy…

And how would they know ? Were they there for that conversation?

"Because daddy told us! "

Conservative/Republican apologists claim Newt is a changed man. He can’t do wrong anymore because he already done it. So they go after the wife and call her disgruntled .
Use daughters as “proof” because the daughters remain totally objective.

And daughters aren’t going to idealize one of their parents.
There’s no administration in American history with less moral authority than the Clinton-Gore administration.”
– Newt Gingrich, 1998,

I think those are all positive and speak to his effectiveness. Ethics charges were dropped. The only time the Republicans haven’t legislated like Democrats in 20 years is when Newt was speaker. He has been the single most effective Republican in 20 years. I think that speaks to his leadership abilities.
He was guilty of one.

Newt wasn’t a real leader. He had GOOD PR in the 90’s, at a time when Clinton was lurching leftward his first two years.
Gingrich rode in on that opportunity.
He’s the only speaker to be run out of and fined hugely.
It’s actually the opposite. He got run out by a Republican congress because his leadership, was off putting.

And at one point, he was overseeing, GOP LOSSES in 1998, because Bill Clinton blackmailed him and both of them knew they were having affairs on the side.

Gingrich rubbed people the wrong way. This is why the Bushes don’t like him, he wasn’t a team player.

Gingrich’s true interest was for the sake of Party Power with himself at the head, and getting back at the Democrats.

His “leadership” is only a fond memory to Republicans, and not only that , just hard core Republicans. Not Americans.

Gingrich is no different than the typical types who think the GOP banner is the means to power. Putting party first, if its in one’s self-interest…more power.

Not Country first. This is why he was able to compromise and work with liberals in the 2000’s… and promote liberal causes. He had to bide his time in exile, to continue building political clout and amass more wealth…while IN DC. With Superpacs and the like.

Gingrich will not go far with Independents and Democrats.

Rush is just propagandizing…just like he did for Herman Cain…

[Funny how Rush thinks both Romney & Gingrich are the ones who can beat Obama … BOTH establishment , types connected to billionaire donors. ]

Drudge was helping Romney yesterday. Now he’s hurting ABC?
the hypocrisy of the Right, as sour grapes because the Left control the media.

As if the Right could control the media, they wouldn’t do the same things?? Puhlease.

In this case, that’s what exactly what they’re doing on their own side — from what areas, markets, they DO control.

So they practice sweeping the question of “character” under the rug by focusing on the media victimization. Using the mindset, ’ that because the Left has double standards? We have to tell voters not to pay attention.

Therefore, they take on some, retributive, action of the misuse of Old Law. They "covered for Kennedy! " and fan ire against the media. Not the content or verification of the media’s actual content and truth.

Falling back on the Eye for an Eye approach. They can’t see how they are not acting on behalf of truth and impartiality.

Ergo, all Talk Radio, covers for Newt Gingrich rather than sitting down and questioning if Newt has proven he has the “character” to go against Obama?

And do they really want to risk, allowing him to make it through? If this stuff occurs in November?

Even Sarah Palin, went down in my estimation when she gave Gingrich a pass, and is being selective.

i.e. Says all candidates need to be vetted, dismisses the wife, as if she knows that 2nd wife?

Anyone who thinks one’s tribe is without blemish is foolish.

The GOP is completely guilty of this when they are caught in hypocritical positions because the standards they seek to uphold, are just a wee bit higher than the Democrats.

Instead of being proud to uphold it. They complain against the Democrats holding us to it.

The question isn’t even if Newt should be forgiven, and had affairs.

It’s can we trust he is being honest?

…and that’s what the ex wife — that is all she is doing.

If the GOP was so sure of Gingrich they would be less reactionary.

Newt Gingrich wouldn’t have that PHONY SENSE OF MORAL INDIGNATION" that he did tonight in the debate.

Now GOP partisans are trying to say he won the debate with that prepared act because they are partial and without discernment. They want to be impressed. They don’t want to hear or parse his words of what he is really saying.

For instance, If he truly was a changed man.

He would have been sad and heartbroken, for what he did then, and been more serene about it.

Instead he pointed the finger back which was totally different than his demeanor in November when he welcomed ALL scrutiny.

His debate grandstanding, may have fooled some. But me?

I’m not going to be conned by him as a voter.

Do not be fooled when one Party claims to be the Party of Christ with Winks and Nods. Get lost Gingrich. You have no business trying to say you’re for family values. And using your political production team to make a DVD about our past Holy Father during the run-up-to a 2012 campaign.

Political parties be damned… The worst part is, in the public life, the wisdom of the media is not to even look to moral leaders. And that scandalizes the children, by promoting this sense of indifference for one’s personal sins, and the exploitation of “non-judgmentalism” couched in a false application of Christ’s words. I’ve seen more **“who cares about one’s character. Can he lead??” ** by Republicans and conservatives all over the place, whomever is supporting or thinking of supporting Gingrich. Also fingers pointed to worse “sinners”

You can know a lot. But in order to be wise, you have to be good. The late Fulton Sheen said this. As I have seen others quote him from his EWTN clips.

This is why it’s liberating to know you have to ONLY stand and run to Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

For better or worse, Todd Palin endorsed Newt Gingrich.

Sarah Palin then said that Todd “went rogue” … [which might be the title of her book]

Sarah Palin, then, a couple of days later, said something to the effect that she was not endorsing Newt Gingrich, BUT that folks should vote for Newt.

Yeah! It makes no difference what he DOES as long as he says he’s Catholic!
Couldnt agree more. It wonderful he married his adulteress girlfriend after several years,
also this is a quote from him.

"Gingrich addressed his past infidelities by saying, “There’s no question at times in my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate”

Its probably good not to put him in office as** hard work **caused him **to have things in his life happen **that were not appropriate.

Now yes we all deserve forgiveness for our sins, so not judging, but I do hate to put him back in a position that may cause bad things to happen to him again.:o

I will concentrate on his public record and political accomplishments.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation wipes away past sins for good. Newt has made it clear that he is sorry. I think most voters are intelligent enough to look at who Newt is today, and the fact that his ex-wife came out with that interview at this time of all times, will not sway anyone.
his public record and political accomplishments aren’t exactly night and day. And his pompous taking credit for everything makes his accomplishments appear embellished and exaggerated as far as responsibility goes. He is a legend in his own mind.

You don’t have to agree with my assessment, but isn’t it a little odd and convenient to hold that Obligation for a huge chunk of Christian voters? Especially when Newt knows full well about the tenets of Christianity, that to be reluctant plays on the Christian’s conscience. Since Forgiveness is central??

Wouldn’t Newt expect this to be Exploitable? Therefore he can prepare and dodge the questions directly…while building some sort of facade around him.

“yes we can to forgive him.” one newspaper has said. " that doesn’t translate into trusting him with a presidency. "

When you read his conversion history , he talks about the Faith in aesthetic, intellectual phrases…

That’s not Faith…it’s never really a decision YOU make and faith isn’t ultimately based on ‘understanding’ It is supernatural.

Another thing, I find it a little odd, if you take Marianne’s side of the tale that Gingrich wanted an open marriage?
And Calista a staffer was okay at the time. So Gingrich wanted a sham marriage? For appearances sake THEN.

Ten years earlier… Gingrich is quoted by a friend that he wanted to leave his 1st wife “because she’s not young enough, or pretty enough to be a president’s wife”

So we know Gingrich has wanted to be president since 1980.

Gingrich divorced the 2nd wife when he had a younger mistress, and the 2nd wife was diagnosed with MS.

Marianne said that Gingrich said about Calista that she would help him become president.

americanthinker.com/blog/2011/12/court_files_show_gingrich_lying_about_first_divorce.html
  • We know from CNN’s report of divorce records in December.
That the very same daughters that Gingrich uses to discredit the media.
Own testimonies had holes in them. Gingrich’s camp was lying. Based on court records.
The first wife didn’t want to get divorced.
Gingrich also told friends at the time that it wasn’t Jackie who wanted the divorce:
Code:
"He (Gingrich) said, **'You know and I know that she's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a president,' "** Carter, who now lives in South Carolina, told CNN recently, relating the conversation he had with Gingrich the day Gingrich revealed he was filing for divorce. Carter served as treasurer of Gingrich's first congressional campaigns.
  • And that the divorce records. Therefore, whether it was Gingrich’s influence? The daughters tale, wasn’t truthful
  • We know from Marianne’s interview with esquire. That Marianne 's divorce was hard for her. But Calista wasn’t going to be deposed by Marianne’s lawyer. But by Gingrich.
Marianne finds out that Gingrich set up for the media by his lawyer that told the press that the split was amicable. etc to soften and make Gingrich’s divorce white washed a little
So we already have untruths from Gingrich’s side of the story. Based on the fact that these are records.

The question isn’t repentance or forgiveness. It’s candidness and HONESTY.

How do we know he ever was or still applying what he wanted the 2nd wife to do while in Congress now with Calista. Who seems to like the perks and wealth from Gingrich’s post-politician career where he’s become a multi-millionaire?

Character IS connected into one’s work. It spills into ones work.
Americans are supposed to value the stability of the family , because it helps promote a healthier nation?

Yet we don’t care to question if the executive office may have that kind of man? who may not really believe in it?

If the father and provider of the home, can’t live up to what God expects of them?
Then, yes, personal life, effects how he will hold public office.

And if Gingrich is cynically using and calculating for this response from voters because he knows that Christians are very open and willing they want to see and take him at his veneer …

Think about it. We have to take a politician at his word?? about reconciliation?
When his word on policy is sketchy already!! Can already be proven that his word.

It has been pointed out by others, that this is the man who endorsed a pro-gay activist, pro-abortionist, months after his conversion.

I hope Gingrich doesn’t win South Carolina. He’s coming off less trustworthy than Mitt Romney. And that’s pretty untrustworthy.

I don’t even like or enjoy criticizing or being wary or skeptical of Gingrich…

But the fact that he may be forcing Christians to forgive him and he might not be repentant scares me about him.

I have nothing to forgive of Gingrich. If he had affairs , I trust the Lord to have mercy on him. I don’t know him, God knows it…

I don’t know him so I have nothing to forgive or condemn him on those private matters…

Doesn’t mean I am going to blindly listen to him or ask questions if he is being dishonest still… He is a public, politician.

Him being arrogant and dishonest is a problem we don’t have to tolerate, as this is now, as opposed to his past sins.
but I do hate to put him back in a position that may cause bad things to happen to him again
I may criticize him as a wary voter, but if he did have any change in the years. Now I’m not even sure I can even believe that! His conversion came only after Obama got collected. I guess he was content for 8 years…

But if he truly has attempted to reform himself.

I have some sympathies that putting power back in his hands is the worse thing we could do. Knowing that the 2nd wife wanted him to leave politics because she’d seen him manic, and go through depression and write a book where he was really hard on himself?

Where he became a mess??

He already displayed these personality flaws, after Mitt Romney’s negative ads. He became erratic again. And he is also very vindictive.

For his souls sake, he should just stay a private citizen.

Pretty soon it’s going to be down to Mitt Romney vs Ron Paul, but I strongly suspect that when that happens, the media will strongly imply that Romney is running unopposed.

I’m just curious. I assume Newt Gingrich had his previous marriages anulled. Was this because he wasn’t Catholic at the time of his first two marriages?

No. In order to marry his current wife in the Catholic Church, he was required to have his 2 previous marriages anulled. His religious affiliation at the time of his marriages was not considered.

Nothing ‘Anti-Muslim’ About Gingrich’s Comments on Shari’a, Says Anti-Islamist Muslim Activist
cnsnews.com/news/article/nothing-anti-muslim-about-gingrich-s-comments-shari-says-anti-islamist-muslim-activist

(CNSNews.com) – Newt Gingrich’s stance on Islamic law (shari’a) is not “anti-Muslim” as charged by some Islamic critics, an American Muslim activist said Thursday.

Instead it is those critical of Gingrich – the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) – whose actions and motivations should be examined, in the view of M. Zuhdi Jasser, an observant, anti-Islamist American Muslim who is founder and president of the non-profit American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD).

“CAIR again proves that along with other Muslim Brotherhood legacy groups in America, they are simply grievance mills which irresponsibly derive their fuel from exaggerating Muslim victimization,” the Phoenix, Ariz.-based doctor told CNSNews.com.

CAIR earlier this week slammed Gingrich after the Republican presidential candidate, asked during a South Carolina campaign event whether he would ever endorse an American Muslim running for president, replied, “It would depend entirely on whether they would commit in public to give up shari’a.”

“A truly modern person who happened to worship Allah would not be a threat,” Gingrich continued. “A person who belonged to any kind of belief in shari’a – any kind of effort to impose that on the rest of us, would be a mortal threat.”

He went on to point to the application of shari’a in countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Don’t know if it matters, but I was reading that he was Baptised prior to his second marriage.
