Have you ever felt a Demonic Presence

I don’t take well to people being bullied for any reason. Never have, since high school.

Though I see now that Dihydrogen’s comment was indeed edited, and I thank him for that. 👍
All’s well that ends well. 👍

Suggesting that she read the CCC is completely legit. I just didn’t like the comment about her not being a Catholic. 🙂
Frankly, she could have answered a simple “no” to the thread title and left it as is.

She is absolutely blessed if she has been spared the manifestations of spiritual evil. As we see from posts in this thread, as well as the lives of the Saints, not all are so blessed.

True, and true.

This is just so whacky I can’t believe you put it in print. Get a grip folks!!
This is not the Catholic faith I love! God is love. God is peace. Yes there is evil in the world so love one another to make it better.

Why oh why do you put so much importance in this kind of nonsense?!! This is not our faith!,

I partially agree that if we all speak of demonic attacks we will move away from Christ in many senses giving glory to Satan. But Anne, if you read the accounts they are all very similar.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit lets us know when evil is near or coming. The Holy Spirit either consoles us or chastities us depending on I state of Grace. He warns us if we are in a state of grave sin.

I don't believe that people who report demonic activity in their lives are "wacky." In this time of Great Apostasy and from the warnings of many approved apparitions Satan has been given greater power over the Earth.

Pope Leo XIII heard a conversation between Jesus Christ and Satan on October 13, 1884. This is what motivated him to write the prayer to St. Michael and the exorcism prayer used in the Roman Missal for to drive demons away from homes and other objects.
Exactly 33 years to the day prior to the great Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, that is, on October 13, 1884, Pope Leo the 13th had a remarkable vision. When the aged Pontiff had finished celebrating Mass in his private Vatican Chapel, attended by a few Cardinals and members of the Vatican staff, he suddenly stopped at the foot of the altar. He stood there for about 10 minutes, as if in a trance, his face ashen white. Then, going immediately from the Chapel to his office, he composed the prayer to St. Michael, with instructions it be said after all Low Masses everywhere. When asked what had happened, he explained that, as he was about to leave the foot of the altar, he suddenly heard voices - two voices, one kind and gentle, the other guttural and harsh. They seemed to come from near the tabernacle. As he listened, he heard the following conversation:

The guttural voice, the voice of Satan in his pride, boasted to Our Lord:
“I can destroy your Church.”

The gentle voice of Our Lord:
“You can? Then go ahead and do so.”

Satan:
“To do so, I need more time and more power.”

Our Lord:
"How much time? How much power?

Satan:
“75 to 100 years, and a greater power over those
who will give themselves over to my service.”

Our Lord:
“You have the time, you will have the power.
Do with them what you will.”
After Mass Pope Leo XIII composed a number of prayers call the Leonine Prayers. I probably mispelled Leonine. He wanted these to be said after Mass. I pray them every day.

These are the Leonine Prayers. Following are the Prayers after Low Mass which were prescribed by Pope Leo XIII who composed the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel, and were reinforced by Pope Pius XI and Pope Pius XII to pray for the conversion of Russia. These prayers were in effect until after about 1967I. A decade later Paul VI said, “satan has entered the sanctuary.” These powerful prayers I believe have a ten year indulgence.

Vernacular
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
(Said 3 times)

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee to we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mouring and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this exile, show unto us the blessed Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.
O God, our refuge and our strength, look down with mercy upon the people who cry to Thee; and by the intercession of the glorious and immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Saint Joseph her spouse, of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all the saints, in Thy mercy and goodness hear our prayers for the conversion of sinners, and for the liberty and exaltation of the Holy Mother the Church. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.

“I don’t think that there is all this reaction towards Anna because of her not believing the stories in this thread. The reason the reactions are coming strongly is because she does not seem to believe according to the Teachings of the Church and she seems to be passing off her beliefs as truth which they are not.”

Catholics are not obliged to believe in demons such as described in this thread. The church does teach that psychological causes should be investigated before anything is established about demons, visible or having a possession. So hopefully all of you who have shared your stories have been for professional treatment.

I am done with this subject that many of you seem to be giving too much credit.

You’re promoting a cult.

I agree that those who have experienced these things should seek professional help. Call your priest. 🙂 If he follows Church teaching he will be able to offer you much advice and guidance.

The rest of this post I completely disagree with but I am tired of debating the issue. Wisdom should not be thrown at the feet of all. I just pray that Anna never experiences a true demonic presence.

Oh My Goodness Anna Claire, I can see you haven’t taken the time to TRULY read the postings and links to the Vatican…

Are you suggesting that The Vatican and especially the work of Fr. Amorth is linked to a Cult ?

I sincerely hope we are just not blindly burying our heads in the sand like an Ostrich…

The thread here is Demons and EVIL EXIST, NOT THAT Demons and Evil are the focus in our lives Most here including those that lead good Holy lives have experienced their presence…

The Power of Prayer is our greatest weapon against such Evil…

I can’t seriously believe that by brushing it under the rug and denying it it no longer exists !

Amen! We are in a spiritual war. Every good general knows the enemy. Patton studied his enemies extensively. That does not mean that he became less of an American.

Greetings Anna Claire,

Members of the Catholic Church are obliged to believe in demons and not to dismiss them or call them nonsense. If I am correct, orginally you responded that demons were nonsense. That they were only mental illnesses or something to that affect. It seems that you are missing the point in realizing that it is not your unbelief of these stories that is called into question, but rather any potential teachings that contradict the Official Teaching of the Catholic Church.

Rather than enumerate the posts again, my responses to your earlier responses are in this thread, if you want to take the time to read them.

No one is saying that psychological evidence should not be sought after first. [See paragraph #1673 below] However as I have stated in a prior post to you demonic oppression and possession and mental illness are not mutually exclusive.

Once again I would like to post the Official Teaching of the Catholic Church regarding fallen angels, i.e., demons. [These are paragraphs taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.]
#391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy. Scripture and the Church’s Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called “Satan” or the “devil”. The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: “The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing.”
#392 Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels. This “fall” consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. We find a reflection of that rebellion in the tempter’s words to our first parents: “You will be like God.” The devil “has sinned from the beginning”; he is “a liar and the father of lies”.
#1673 When the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ that a person or object be protected against the power of the Evil One and withdrawn from his dominion, it is called exorcism. Jesus performed exorcisms and from him the Church has received the power and office of exorcizing. In a simple form, exorcism is performed at the celebration of Baptism. The solemn exorcism, called “a major exorcism,” can be performed only by a priest and with the permission of the bishop. The priest must proceed with prudence, strictly observing the rules established by the Church. Exorcism is directed at the expulsion of demons or to the liberation from demonic possession through the spiritual authority which Jesus entrusted to his Church. Illness, especially psychological illness, is a very different matter; treating this is the concern of medical science. Therefore, before an exorcism is performed, it is important to ascertain that one is dealing with the presence of the Evil One, and not an illness.
I am happy that you have decided to close this and move on from this thread. Sometimes it is best to move on.

God Bless.
Anathama Sit

The demons written about in scripture and cast out by Jesus are metaphors for medical conditions not any kind of supernatural creature.

The battle against the devil, which is the principal task of Saint Michael the archangel, is still being fought today, because the devil is still alive and active in the world. The evil that surrounds us today, the disorders that plague our society, man’s inconsistency and brokenness, are not only the results of original sin, but also the result of Satan’s pervasive and dark action.” – The Venerable John Paul II

Fr. Domenico Pechenino, in 1947, recounted an experience with Pope Leo XIII in the journal La Settimana del Clero. The Holy Father had just celebrated Mass and stopped motionless, staring at a point above the altar. After some time, he rose to his feet and hurried into his private office. Half an hour later, he emerged with a piece of paper and urged that it be sent to all the ordinaries around the world – a prayer to be said after each Mass. Pope Leo XIII had seen a vision – a demonic horde congregating and descending upon Rome. The prayer that it inspired is below, a prayer to St. Michael. A shorter prayer to St. Michael was later substituted and added to the Leonine prayers to be said after each Mass. The shorter prayer is the one most of us are familiar with today. Pope Leo XIII would also write a rite of exorcism which is still used in the Church today.
The Leonine prayers were supressed in the 60’s, but St. Michael remains a powerful intercessor and guardian against the evil one and his minions. Maybe the Leonine prayers will be reinstated some day. Whether they are or not, nothing stops us from spending a few moments after Mass to say those prayers – or the prayer to St. Michael at the very least.

They seem to like hanging around the oncology wards/floors. I was so scared that I was convulsing everytime I would start to fall asleep…my mind was fighting it so hard. They finaly knocked me out with some sedatives. Not a fun night.
If you go back to page 4 or 5, i had a very similiar experience on an oncology floor.

We pray the St Michael prayer in church every day after Mass.

I had an experience once. A demonic vision. Never anything like it since. I was wide awake, just starting the rosary, when it happened. I was not a child at the time, either.
What did it look like?
I’ve recounted it here before, but it was a long time ago, and probably under a different username. The event itself was years ago now, but I still remember it with unusual clarity. I had just started the habit of kneeling to pray my daily rosary, and so I knelt down at the foot of my bed to pray, when suddenly I was overcome by a powerful feeling of fear. And then I saw, in my mind’s eye, myself, powerless and on the ground, surrounded by many dark, featureless figures who were beating me and hurling abuse at me. This thought, completely out of my control, kept repeating itself in my mind: “The devil especially hates those who seek to unite themselves with God.” Unfortunately, I was still a newbie and, realizing the truth of these words, and finding it difficult to continue anyway, I stopped praying. The intense feeling of fear and everything else could not be alleviated by ordinary means and stayed with me until I fell asleep hours later.

I didn’t realize at the time that, although the words were true, the whole thing contained a lie. Yes, the devil does especially hate those who seek to unite themselves with God, but he is also powerless against the Almighty, and nothing can happen to us that God does not will for some good purpose, so we have nothing to fear in his taunts.

It seems to me also that the devil especially hates when we kneel to pray. It used to be that, whenever I kneeled to pray, I would become very dizzy, so that I would have to stop. Then one day I realized that this was abnormal and possibly a deception and I determined that I would not give in and would continue to kneel. The dizziness went away and I haven’t had any trouble kneeling to pray since.

Actually, I was instructed with views similar to Anna Claire while studying theology at a Catholic Jesuit University and are quite pervasive in many of the Catholic Universities…demons don’t exist, miracles of Christ were only performed on people who psychosomatic had disorders and a host of other explanations and allegories to explain away the supernatural. I turned away from the Church at that time believing that everything was just an invention.

Since that time and way in the future, I’ve participated in a number of exorcisms and had a good friend who was a clinical psychologist who sent years investigating such activities . These is a difference between oppression and possession. Most demonic activities centers around familiar spirits which can attach themselves to inanimate objects as well as to certain people, places or things. They can be pass down through generational backgrounds but the most common activity is engaging in illicit drug activity, eastern meditation, Satanic worship or engaging in occultic activities such as Ouija boards, seances and other such games.

catholicwarriors.com/pages/warfare_prayers.htm
This a good site for prayers on spiritual warfare.

To discern on whether a supernatural being is a demonic or an angel is to try the spirits to see if they’re from God. St. John and St. Paul admonishes to try the Spirits. One of the tests used is mentioned in the Epistle of St. 1 John 4:1-5 “Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.”

Other spiritual weapons we found to be effective is to plead the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and to bind the demonic power. Remember, Christ has given us power over all the power of the enemy. Mark 16:17-18.

Satan leaves alone those that are in his camp so his focus is on Christians. We are in a spiritual contest but our weapons are not flesh and blood but mighty through God to casting down every stronghold and placing every thought and imagination under the obedience of Christ Jesus, Blessed be His Name.

However, we are not to focus on demonic activity as though there is a demon behind every bush. Our eyes should always be focused on Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:2.

Blessings

I believe that I have sensed the presence of demonic spirits in various ways in the past. I don’t wish to elaborate at this time but perhaps in the future I will.

If you go back to page 4 or 5, i had a very similiar experience on an oncology floor.
I read your account. I’m sorry that you experienced this. It is hard for some who haven’t been visited by death to understand these manifestations during the final hour. I think next time we will be better prepared. Samson

“The most successful thing the devil ever did was fooling people into believing he didn’t exist.”
And fomenting despair by causing folks to think he is everywhere, thus distracting us from the Glory of God.

Demons are real but vivid demonic experiences are RARE, people should be assuming a natural explanation to suspicious occurances.

I have never experienced anything I believe to be supernatural and I don’t know anybody I implicitly trust who has.
