Yeah its about time Catholic Answers got their own boards, even if a little too orange. I would recommend also Greg Krehbiel’s general Theological discussion EZboard (or “God Talk”) for other high quality discussion, not the typical anti-Catholic vs. anti-Protestant nonsense you find at CARM :o

Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, and some Reformed/evangelicals you’ll find here

God Talk Theological discussion

I try to leave the anti part out of my posts… people have converted to catholicims becasue of the discutions there…I pray they do here as well…

Me too. I have one question: why are people quoting back the entire message of someone else? When you view the topics in “Linear mode” the message appears just before the one quoted. No need to quote entire messages back. Of course one-liners are okay like the one I quoted above. 🙂

Figure I’d nip this in the bud before Catholic Answers MySQL database or whatever they are using becomes 800 Terabytes of messages in about 1 month. 😛 With of course around 700,000 users. Good that most people are keeping their messages short and to the point. 👍

Hi guys!

Nice to see all the friendly faces!

I lost a little joy over at Carm. Luckily I found it again! Licked my wounds and have been hanging at DCF when I have time.

But thanks to folks like you, I sure did learn a lot and that made it worth it!

Gee Bill, what could you possibly have to argue about with __BW?

May God continue to bless all of you and your work,
Stephanie

That is a really bad site, they aren’t really Catholic friendly over there and it is really confusing.

Linear mode? I’ll have to go figure out where that is! Thanks!

I thought I recognized Mary’s daughter as well, I go back and forth. I will stay away for moths at a time and then come back fora few months again…

you guys all last on CARM because you are all very generous in your debates…and I did notice that you do take nice, long breaks! I will try to keep that in mind and follow your example on my new boards. Thanks!

Yeah, linear mode is what they call it at CARM as well. Linear means the messages line up one after the other, page after page. Both here and at CARM you can choose Linear mode vs. “threaded” mode or what I call outline format. Threaded mode is what the old Steve Ray board used to be, now they are Linear. And threaded is what Krehbiel uses but his board is not that busy. Here threaded mode displays just one message, while the rest are outlined with links I think.

I was impressed by this board since I program a little in PHP myself. A lot of options are available. Whoever programmed this did a great job. Except for the colors. 😛

I want to invite all catholics over to another site, including Catholic answers apologists.,
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You’re so funny! 🙂 You got a great sense of humor. 🙂

You think a catholophobic board is a good idea to go to? Sheesh 🙂

Hmmm, should we start a “What do the letters CARM REALLY stand for” thread? 🙂

Not a good Idea if you are not grounded in your faith…On the other hand if you want your faith challenged and your apologetics skills sharp that is a good site,It has helped me tremendously by helping me find my weaknesses and researching them…

Hi, Bill! Wolseley here.

Long time no see!

Been quite a while since you and I used to get beaten up together over at Rapture Ready. 😉

Nice to see you again. 🙂

I’ve done some lurking at CARM and I cannot honestly say that the thought of posting there is terribly appealing. The members’ (and especially the mods) attitude seems to be that, no matter what the Catholic Church teaches, the CARM idea of what Catholicism is all about far more true that anything the Church says for Herself. And the CARM opinion is the final word. To imply that continued misrepresentation of Catholic teaching is bearing false witness is to have oneself banned from the board. No thanks, I’ll not be taking my marbles to that playground.

I stil trying to figure out this format…Learning quickly though… 👍

This has nothing to do whether I’m grounded in my faith or not. I can post articles that blow away the bigoted garbage they post, and I’ll wind up getting banned.

No, if you want to get banned for defending the Catholic faith effectively and charitably, or to dare to disagree with the moderators’ misconceptions of the Catholic faith, then it is worthwhile to post there. Basically speaking, CARM is afraid of hearing the REAL Catholic faith being discussed. They just want to hold on to their misconceptions.

Karl Keating would rock there, but get banned so quickly.

I have found CARM to be generally open to allowing Catholics to have their say. That said, however, it is not friendly to the Church. And it’s purpose is to show Catholics the error of their ways.

I find it hard to stay engaged when the same 20 questions keep returning albeit with new posters. To those who look upon it as a ministry, to give a Catholic response to Protestant half-truths, more power to you.

I still occasionally go there when I want a Protestant perspective on some point.

I haven’t had much experience at CARM (never posted there) but if you want a Catholic’s opinion on the dialogue value there, see Dave Armstrong.

I’d like to see more non-Catholics of different faiths come in here. It would balance things out and make things a little interesting…I think anyways. 🙂

Miguel.

I have learned to stay away from places like that. I did enough of that sort of thing in the old WWIV days. Yes, fidodroids, there was more to bbs-ing than just fidonet. I was on a couple WWIV subs that had many anti-catholics. Initially it was ok but my irascible nature probably did not harm than good.

I was on CARM long before I was a Catholic and particularly found it frustrating when I was considering Catholicism.

I had a much better time understanding what Catholicism really taught on the Catholic board on Christianforums 🙂

CARM was rather useless for me. All the anti-Catholic bashing was way too much for me.

Ah yes, “Rapture Ready”!

Got banned from there, you know, “intentionally induced” if you recall. More recently, I got banned from “BaptistBoard” even while I had not posted there is two weeks! I had some fun times there too! 🙂

God bless,

PAX
