How to prepare for Halloween?

I just love to carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds. So good! Halloween is indeed a favorite holiday. The only time I didn’t like it was the few years I lived in Michigan where older kids get into mayhem with so-called “devil’s night.” Here, Halloween is just little kids in cute costumes.

There is no truth to the claim that demons roam free on Hallowe’en. Hallowe’en is simply All Hallows’ Even, that is to say, First Vespers of the Solemnity of All Saints. Hallowe’en is a holy evening, not an evil one.

The best way for adults to observe it is to pray Evening Prayer I of All Saints, and the best way for children to observe it is to join the festivities, dressed as their favourite saints.

While it is true that Halloween has evolved into a big business, it is no more demonic than any other holiday. Yes, there are adult parties that are over the top with gory or sensual costumes, but that has nothing to do with kids dressing up as a Disney or superhero character, ringing doorbells and collecting as much candy as the can.

People need to lighten up and let their kids have fun being kids. So just for the record, “trunk or treat” is lame. 😉 Kids should be allowed to walk up to a house and ring a doorbell and return to their parents waiting at the sidewalk, with a bunch of candy.

And while we are at it, no toothbrushes, stickers, fruit, pencils, or any other substitute for candy should be given.

It’s all about the candy, people!

Why not do both trunk or treat AND trick or treat? My kids and I definitely will.

Is it a sin to go to one of those haunted houses ran by young people, where they scare you, that they put on every year?

I don’t know, it seems kinda dumb. Walk to the trunk of a car, no doorbell, get candy, walk 6 feet away to the next car. It’s just not the same to me. 🤓

“I am a high priced Washington lobbyist peddling influence”

LMAO 🤣🤣🤣

There’s just something about trunk or treat at our Parish that I love. It’s chaotic, silly, and warm and inviting all at the same time.

Hard to explain I suppose…

One year, someone gave my kids large Cadbury fruit and nut bars fron the UK. I had to confiscate them. Like Peak Freens, they were “much too good waste on children.”

My kids didn’t care. Nor did they know what they were missing. 😏 🍫 🍫

Maybe, but imagine what those same people could do at their house.

Nobody wants to go door to door around here anymore. The neighborhood and city are not well.

Everyone goes to organized events now as parents deem them safer.

I am scrupulous and it isn’t something that I would feel the need to go to confession for. I don’t know what commandment it breaks. It may not be the most pious thing to do, but I certainly don’t see it as grave matter. Now, if you attempted to have a seance to contact spirits, now there is grave matter. But watching people dressed in costumes is no more sinful than seeing people in costumes in a movie.

I didn’t think this was so confusing. You dismissed an article I shared – an article that comes from Catholic Answers – as being against Catholic teachings. I assume you’ll now want to write to CA and explain to its apologists how misguided they are. I can’t wait to hear their response. As for these forums, it’s odd that you would engage here when you disapprove of this apostolate.
You are completely off topic. This thread is about Halloween. It is not about articles shared, opinions on the opinions of forums of Apostolates, or disparaging other forum members in an uncharitable manner

Good day to you.
The article I shared is about Halloween. You dismissed its claims and, in fact, said they were against Church teaching. This, of course, isn’t true. But since you feel it is, I urge you to contact its authors and reconsider participating in this forum, which is provided by the same outfit.
