I’m not non-Catholic, so I believe what the Magisterium tells me is believable, and the teaching of the Church is that Jesus simply would not do as you suggest is possible. That makes your “scenario” an impossibility. Therefore your scenario is on the face of it an absurdity.

Do you believe the part that “Nothing is impossible for God?”
I certainly believe that ALL THINGS are possible for God, and when He makes it known through the only authority with which we are to fully believe in matters of faith and morals that your “goofy scenario” is a fact, I’ll believe it!

Should the Magisterium tell us that your wacky scenario is a possibility, I’ll of course go along with them.

So Jesus isn’t enough?
Little Buckeroo, you’re rapidly losing all credibility in your hardheadedness in this matter.

It is against Church teaching to rely on personal interpretation of private revelation. “Jesus telling me something PERSONALLY” would be a private revelation, which I’m bound to take to the Magisterium for verification.

Once it is or is not verified as truth, then I would or wouldn’t believe it accordingly.

Since you are obviously NOT Catholic, or are at best a seriously undereducated Catholic, this may be news to you. Consider yourself now slightly more learned in what to do with “private revelations”.

I’m CERTAINLY not a bible-literalistic-ist, and I accept as true all that the Magisterium says we must accept.

Do you?

Except the teaching that nothing is impossible for God I guess.

Catechism of The Catholic Church
273 Only faith can embrace the mysterious ways of God’s almighty power. This faith glories in its weaknesses in order to draw to itself Christ’s power. The Virgin Mary is the supreme model of this faith, for she believed that “nothing will be impossible with God”, and was able to magnify the Lord: “For he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

274 “Nothing is more apt to confirm our faith and hope than holding it fixed in our minds that nothing is impossible with God. Once our reason has grasped the idea of God’s almighty power, it will easily and without any hesitation admit everything that [the Creed] will afterwards propose for us to believe - even if they be great and marvelous things, far above the ordinary laws of nature.”
I believe what God tells us via His way of telling us which we can believe.

Nothing I’ve said violates those quotes from the catechism. Please tell me specifically how I have done so if you think I have.

Do you realize that you are beginning to sound very much like a person who is a non-Catholic who is mocking Catholics for not believing private revelation by using the ruse of “But God can do anything as your catechism itself says!”

I would also like to recommend that your “poster” sig image be removed as it “seems” offensive to the dignity of the priestly vocation to me. I can’t read the “fine print” so I’m not really sure what’s going on there. I shall petition for the mods to remove it, at their discretion of course.

I certainly believe that ALL THINGS are possible for God, and when He makes it known through the only authority with which we are to fully believe in matters of faith and morals that your “goofy scenario” is a fact, I’ll believe it!
But in my scenario, it is Jesus Who is calling Himself a pencil.

So, if it’s not impossible for Jesus to become a pencil, then it is something that can be believed if it happened.

Quote:
GOD would only do that via the Magisterium. If God told me that He “was a pencil” (whatever that means?) via the Magisterium, then I’d take His word for it.

Right…but if God told you Himself, you wouldn’t believe Him.

Quote:
Jesus physically TOLD us that He was present in the bread and wine at that time. What “people” think is utterly irrelevent to what God has told us.

So if Jesus TOLD us that he was physically present in the bread and wine today, you wouldn’t believe Him…you’d wait until The Church told you, thennnnn you’d take Jesus’ word for it.
Please go to the Church for why it is that private revelation is to be taken to the Church for verification. I’m not going to argue facts with the ignorant.
Quote:
God has limited His authentic communication, or authentic verification of private communication with us to the Magisterium.
I wonder if people thought that “before” Padre Pio or The Little Flower…or Fatima.
What are you saying? Only the Church is authorized to decide that miracles are miracles.

Once again, I’m not going to agrue facts with the ignorant. Please refer to the teaching of the Church, as everyone here has suggested you do, to actually LEARN what the Church means by what she says.

If Jesus came to you and told you that He was a pencil when it (the Pencil) was consecrated by an ordained Pastor…would you believe Him and accept that the Consecrated Pencil is Him?
Yes, but you are missing the fact that Jesus did not randomly pick up an item and declare His presence…Bread of the Presence was around BEFORE He came to Earth…King David gives his starving troops Bread of the Presence that was reserved only for priests…in 1 Samuel. Also, Jesus was in the middle of the Sedar and He offered the wine cup that was the Cup of the Covenant - He was creating a NEW COVENANT…so, bread and wine were not because they happen to be in His hand…if you study the history, Catholics are not going only by the words of Jesus - though they would be enough, but also by His actions and His following of Jewish tradition!

Quote:
I’m not limiting God in any way. I’m simply accepting God’s limits which He has made.

How did “you” come to this conclusion?
This is the last time I’m going into this with you.

We cannot know private revelation is true unless it is confirmed for us by the teaching authority of the Church. That is “God’s limit for us, His RULE” as to how we are treat private revelation.

God instituted this rule. We are to limit ourselves to those limits He has commanded.

Where is your problem with that?

What is this “…was said by non-bbelievers in Christ” line above of yours about?

That you use Pharisitical requirements of scholarly proof to “believe”.
How is it “requiring scholarly proof to believe” to accept only the God-given gift of the Magisterium for what to believe is true?

An “evil-angel (demon)” would very easily be able to fool this mere mortal man (me) into believing that he was Jesus! I’ve been told that I’m to take revelations like this to the Church to decide if what has been revealed to me is what it purports to be.

If you chose to follow demons in place of God, go for it, but it’s probably not good for your eternal destiny to have done so.

There are about 2 Catholics who “don’t” agree with me here and who were quite nasty about it along with you.

There are about 2 non-Catholics who don’t agree with me who were actually civil about it.

There are abour 2 non-Catholics that do agree with me (one profoundly and beautifully so).

Catholics who defended me and who agree with me?

I believe that we (the majority including both Catholics and non-Catholics) are correct in accepting Jesus’ words without doubting Him one bit and without having to wait for confirmation from His Own Church.

🙂

God bless you.

That would only apply if the question was:

“If an “evil-angel (demon)” told you Jesus was a pencil…”

But that wasn’t the topic of discussion here.

When the Magisterium tells me that, for whatever “interesting” reason, Jesus has become “a pencil”, then I’ll believe that that is true.

My OPINION is that this is highly unlikely, as there SEEMS to be no justification for this odd “trans-substantiation” in any theology tha I’m aware of, but I’m sure it would be fascinating as to WHY this made sense (as the Magisterium is quite good at giving reasons for that which they declare TRUE) if it WERE true! 🙂

In other words, tailor my responses to those who I’m responding to to suit “your” needs?

🤷

How it’s “rude” is odd to me.

It’s “just” a forum…how responding to those who ask me questions when no one else is responding to the thread is rude is beyond me (“that” I’m having trouble accepting).

So what, I’m supposed to wait to express myself until someone adds a response? What if no one responds to the thread for days?

Wouldn’t it be “rude” of me to “not” respond to those who have asked me a question?

🤷
You can respond to two things in one post. Many forums across the net will actually auto merge posts to stop people from posting one after the other like that (I know of one that bans people for it too) they include it right in with stuff like no one word posts and no posts in all caps. I’m not a mod here so you don’t have to listen to me. But I have been in forums all over the net for years and just thought I’d ask. I said it was rude thinking maybe you jsut didn’t know people would see it that way. When you top a thread with a new post, people click on it and read a post by 2ndgen, then you do it again seconds later, the reader ends up having to reopen the thread 3 or 4 times just to see all of what you have to say. Of course it’s just a forum, that doesn’t mean your actions don’t affect other people besides yourself. You don’t have to do anything to meet “my” needs, I will not even say anything about it again. If someone posted every post in all caps I’d have asked them to stop, noted it was rude, and said please too.

This isn’t about The Eucharist as much as it is about blind obedience.

Remove the pencil…if I ask it like this:

If Jesus told you to jump off a bridge and you’d be saved…

That would be committing suicide, but Jesus told you.

What is the authority there?

The Law against suicide or Jesus Who is The Law.

Now, if you were obeying Jesus, would you be committing suicide? No…you were pursuing eternal life.

But if you’re a stickler for the letter of The Law instead of the spirit of The Law, then you’d be bound by The Law and you wouldn’t commit suicide physically to receive eternal heaven spiritually.

People might say “Jesus would never tell you to hurt yourself!”

But Jesus is the same One Who told us to gouge our eye out if it causes us to sin and that no greater love has a man for another than the one who lays down his life for his brother.

Would I jump off a bridge if Jesus promised me eternal salvation?

Yes. I am not a “Lawian”…I am a "Christ"ian.

Jesus words to me supercede anything else.
He is God.
What He says…“is”.

Then you place the authority of The Church above Jesus’ words to you.
There IS NO WAY for me to know that my private relevation is what it says it is. This is utterly true. Therefore, I can’t take it as truth until it is verified as true, which is the function of the Church.
You’re basically saying you woudn’t take Jesus’ word for it until you got the OK from The Church (which is fine by me), but, in my scenario, remember, it is Jesus Who is telling you He is a pencil, not an alternative spirit.
…and once again, I can’t know that, which obliterates your scenario as possible as stated.
So you knowing that this is Jesus still insist on prioritizing The Church over Jesus…that’s what The Pharisees did.
Now, this is the position of a protestant, which you obviously are. You’re welcomed to your protestant way of doing things.
They were so Pro-Church that they couldn’t recognize Jesus when He was in front of them because they though that they knew everything that there was to know about The Messiah.
He proved them wrong.
But they DIDN’T know what even their own scripture said about the Messiah! That is where you’re wrong.

Jesus told them the way that scripture foretold Him. They refused to believe Him.

The “church of you” is perfectly free to choose some “possible demon” over Jesus’ means of giving us all truth if you like.

That “holy pencil”, if not infallibly claimed as Jesus-in-the-graphite, will drag you straight to hell if held onto.

I can’t help it…I’m responding to posts posted to me in that manner by different posters and besides, if I was responding to someone who had posted several questions to me in different posts, will you criticize them too?

Or is it just the one with whom you disagree?

I’m a “Christian” first which means that I became a Catholic because I was a Christian (I didn’t become a Christian because I became a Catholic first) and I certainly could never be
a “Catholian” (someone who places The Church above Christ).

Jesus first, Catholic Church second.
Anyone else want to disabuse this person from his grave and mortal errors?

I’m not going to play with this one as it’s much too easy to fall into being a plaything of a manipulative anti-Catholic by engaging such a person. I think he’s made his true “character” known for us all.

How is this being a Catholic, to NOT believe the Church?
