Oh REALLY?? We are Created body AND soul,( not body-breath combined to form a soul). . They are separate. And at death they separate, till the General Resurrection. The soul is immortal and can never be destroyed. The body is mortal and can and will be reduced to dust after death, until the end of time. After the Resurrection our bodies will be immortal and reunited with our souls. God Bless, Memaw
I am sorry to disappoint you, but you are not immortal. It is quite fascinating that people still believe the oldest and the first of Satan’s
lies: ‘you will not surely die!’ the truth is that you are not immortal, and death is very close. You are a soul, and souls die; thus souls aren’t immortal. 1 Timothy 6:16 God “
only has immortality.” Man is not immortal.
God said in the beginning:
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground [the body], and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life [spirit]; and man became a living soul. ~Genesis 2:7 It is obvious that when He says that He formed man from the dust of the ground, He refers to the body. And it is also obvious that when He says breath of life He refers to the spirit because Job says: *all the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils *~Job 27:3 The Spirit lives in our nostrils?? Nah, I’m joking about it. The spirit is the breath of life which God gave us. This is in harmony with Genesis:
and the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. ~Genesis 6:3 His spirit [breath] is what keeps us alive. The Spirit and Soul is something that is very misunderstood by many so we will primarily let the Strong’s dictionary followed or preceded by the Bible define what they are.
Put simply, the Spirit is basically the BREATH of life from God, as I said previously. Both the Greek and Hebrew words translate “spirit” to “breath” or “air.” The Greek word “pneuma” is known by many of you in relation to things like
pneumatic tools which are air driven or
pneumatic tires [in British it is ‘tyres’ in stead of ‘tires’] which means tires inflated by air. As you can see, the word “pneumatic” originated from the Greek word “Pneuma” and means “breath” or “air.”

**H7307** ruach, Pronounced roo'-akh. From H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, that is, a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figuratively life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extension a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (including its expression and functions): - air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit (-ual]), tempest, X vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).
**Strong’s New Testament Greek dictionary definition for Spirit.**
**G4151 **pneuma, Pronounced pnyoo'-mah. From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare G5590.
A person’s soul is just simply a living breathing creature. Have you heard the expression: 'I went to the park and there wasn’t a soul there'? A soul just simply means a person and is who and what you are.
**Strong’s Old Testament Hebrew dictionary definition for Soul.**
**H5315 **nephesh, Pronounced neh'-fesh. From H5314; properly a breathing creature, that is, animal or (abstractly) vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or mental).
As you read in Genesis 2:7 God made Adam a
living soul, not simply a soul. Logically there can also be a dead soul, because if not, it would just be called a soul; but it is called a living soul, meaning that there can be dead souls as well. God said:
…for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. ~Genesis 2:17 But Satan said:
‘you will not surely die’ ~Genesis 3:4 But who was right in the end?* Adam … died.* ~Genesis 5:5
Also read in Job:
shall mortal man… ~Job 4:17 God calls man mortal and warned Adam that if he sins he will “surely die”. .…the soul that sinneth, it shall die. ~Ezequiel 18:4 God said Himself that the soul that will sin will surely die.
Another important proof: *Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. *~Ecclesiastes 12:7 As you see, the body becomes dust,
and only the spirit returns to the Lord. But what is the spirit? Certainly not a soul! The spirit is the breath of life which God gave you! Read the definitions above for more information. It certainly says nothing about a soul going back to God, but the spirit.
A soul is the body plus the spirit. body + spirit = soul. In Exodus 1:5 *And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. *Seventy souls went to Egypt. It talks about persons, people. Souls are people. Acts 2:41 "
Three thousand souls” were baptized. Again, souls are people. 1 Peter 3:20 “
Eight souls were saved” in Noah’s day. Again, souls are people.
A soul, as I said, is a combination between the dust of the earth and the spirit. The man did not receive a soul, but it
became a soul. Some translations say that is became a living being. You are made from the dust, you receive a spirit, and you become a living soul, because until then you were a dead soul. Just the air itself cannot make a living being and the body without breathing isn’t a living being either. So a soul is body and spirit together.
