McConnell has promised to do his job, which is acting as a juror for the impeachment case. What Democrats want him to do is the job of the House of Representatives, which is to build and present the case for removal. It’s not McConnell’s and the Senate’s job to rescue the House from their shoddy work product.

The oddest thing about this is how it has managed to turn almost 1000 years of English Common Law and American jurisprudence on its head. For a 1000 years the notion of a fair trial was to protect the accused, not the prosecutor. In the case of this impeachment, the prosecutors (Schiff and Nadler) completely controlled the process from determining what witnesses could be called to what questions could be asked. Now it’s going to the Senate, where they don’t control the process. I think their whining is the greatest evidence of how weak the case for impeachment is.

His job is to act as a juror, not a prosecutor.

which is not happening. thanks for proving my point. Dems lectured us on how Constitution must be protected and now they’re ignoring it.

No, Democrats want (as I do) him to actually listen to and weigh the evidence. You know, what he was elected to do.

It’s really quite remarkable. I keep hearing folks from the right claiming that Americans duly elected this president and their votes should be respected. Yet half the country is behind this impeachment and the same voices on the right want to ignore and treat the process with disrespect. Huh?

It’s Democrats who are unwilling to present their case for him to listen to.

Personally, I think it would be pretty epic if McConnell turned it back on House Democrats by refusing to accept the impeachment because he doesn’t like the House rules.

You need 2/3s of the Senate to vote to remove a President, not a simple majority in a poll.

Pelosi needs to hold on to the impeachment documents. Gives her the control which Trump can’t stand.

What will be the evidence that he actually considered and weighed the evidence? That he votes the way you want him to? That he makes a real serious face? That he says he did?

Yikes, I thought it was obvious. A senator who refuses to consider and weigh any evidence in an impeachment trial is not serving his or her constituents. Or the Constitution, for that matter.

I thought Republicans were the party that respected the Constitution?

See doesn’t have control now. The Senate can choose to take up impeachment whether Pelosi transmits the actual articles or not. They’re public record. If Pelosi declines to send House managers to present the case, then the judge, in this case, Chief Justice Roberts, would be perfectly within his authority to dismiss the case.
