I would be shocked to learn that politics was involved in any of this.No no you have that all wrong. You see, the Constitution requires that the Senate vote next. And the Democrats lectured us for hours yesterday how they’re the new safeguards of the Constitution. Surely you’re not suggesting the Democrats weren’t sincere???
Actually I’m astonished that anyone could take that charge seriously.Wait, so you think it’s admirable that a senator has vowed not to do his constitutional duty?
What McConnell said was that he thought the same rules used in 1999 - and approved by all 100 senators at the time - should be used in this case as well. Unsurprisingly, for Democrats, what is sauce for the goose is assuredly not sauce for the gander.
Except that until the House managers are appointed the articles cannot be sent up…and Pelosi has apparently decided not to appoint them, thus nothing will ever reach the Senate.Hardly. The next steps are the appointment of Hoiuse managers who present this case at the trial in the Senate.
For Democrats, rules "is more what you call guidelines than actual rules" given that the previous “rules” are now unacceptable.“do his job” = do what is obligated for the trial under Senate rules.
