I would say yes they are. I understand the animosity because when we go from one to the other we tend to have some towards our former beliefs. When I left the Church I had some animosity against Catholicism for a while.
Panner, yes I have posted that. My SDA friend has had me to post it. And now you post it. But one poster of the opposite view I know has said SDAs only SAY they believe in one God. So if someone doesn’t accept what another says they believe, there’s not much point in discussion. The conclusion appears decided in that case before the horse gets out of the starting gate it would seem to me.

The difference is if the SDA after study, doesn’t agree with what they are told they can become an ex SDA. A Catholic on the otherhand has it ingrained into themselves that the Church is the one and only true one. And are told despite CCC 1782 and 1790, if after informing their conscience, they still disagree, then their conscience is wrong and it must conform to the Catholic Church. And they can be cafeteria, lapsed, non practicing, even excommunicated. But can never completely shake Catholic membership according to the Church.

JC, well that or the Pope as to why CCC 1782 and 1790 are even still in there. But another topic for another thread.

SDAs also have it ingrained in them that SDAism is the One True Church and if you leave after knowing “the Truth” you cannot be saved. I know this because having left their “One True Church” it was made very clear to me.

The good news is that knowing I was ded anyway, studying with the Catholics couldn’t make me any more ded and so I was saved.

Hi Marsha, I know the Catholic Church says something about one could not be saved if they knew and did not remain too. But oh well. It’s been nice discussing things with you on I pray a cordial and charitable basis on my part as well. My friend did ask why you left SDAism. I took the liberty of telling her that I think I remember you saying you didn’t think SDA belief is thought out all the way thru. And thought you said you did a Catholic study. And I explained how often Catholics believe there is historical fact to the Church’s truth. Well off for a bite to eat. God bless you on your walk with our Lord and peace be with you.

I thought I saw it before :), thank you

Marsha you are misrepresenting SDA’s. I have never met an SDA who believes that if you leave the SDA church knowing doctrine that you can’t be saved. That is false. You probably (along with those that surrounded you) believed that but all SDA’s don’t. I’ve talked to many people who pray for those who leave. SDA’s constantly quote John 10:16 which says “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”

I personally know people who knew SDA doctrine, left the church, and came back because they were not happy in other denominations. It would be best if you only spoke for yourself and not SDA’s in general concerning this matter.

Thanks

I was going to say the same thing regarding not all SDAs believe one could not be saved. I’ve even conversed with SDAs who say Catholicism and all Christian faiths have people in them who will be in heaven.

To me yes since I believe there is one God. I happen to have other friends with a picture of Allah in their home. (I befriend His children of all beliefs) 🙂 Allah is their word for the one God. Different beliefs or faith interpretations about? Sure. But in the end the same God since there is only one. Peace upon on all those He created whom walk the earth.
O.K. now I get where you are coming from my friend. you are more of a universalist mentality. I can accept that. It is easier to discuss with a person when you know where they are coming from. I appreciate it. Thank you.👍 Peace 🙂

The Church assumes it is, as far as muslims
Yes, Panner. I had forgotten this. This is probably the one and only teaching of the Church I do have a problem with. I understand how the Jews and Christians are united in their worship of the one God. the Tetragramatan. But I dont understand where we get that the Muslims have the same. It honestly is one of those areas I struggle in. everything else, I have no problems accepting and trying to incorporate into my life. How do you deal with this teaching? you can p.m. me if you want. its kind of off topic I know. Peace 🙂

You would have to define what you mean by a “universalist mentality”. If you mean I don’t believe there is one truth, then no, that is not where I am coming from. 🙂 Peace.

I don’t like it one bit. I left over this and a few other things for a bit, but I am back for the most part now.

Because they Baptize using the Trinitarian formula with the intention of doing what the Early Church did when it Baptized.
I guess I would ask then why are you so critical of their description of the Trinity? Are you arguing semantics without a distinction of faith? After all, the Trinity is a Mystery and our language and understanding fall short in describing it. For all practical purposes of faith, how do the distinctions you see matter?

All of their other false doctrines stem from their false Tunderstanding of the Trinity. If like the LDS the denomination stood up and said plainly this is what we believe, many (not most, but many) of their members would be horrified and leave. They might even think, if the denomination was wrong about this, what else was it wrong about? Its anti-Catholic doctrines perhaps?

Semantics are important. Words, specific, distinctly crafted words define ideas. Sloppy words make for sloppy ideas which lead to false ideas and false beliefs. Distinction of faith can only be seen thrugh the definition of semantics.

It does matter when someone says they are in agreement with you, and are deceptive about it. Also the Trinity is one of the defining charachteristics of True Christianity. It goes to the hear of who Jesus really is. Peace 🙂

I am very very happy you are back. 👍 I, as a former protestant, have no where else to turn. If I did not fully believe that the Catholic Church was the Church Christ set up. I would have converted to Judaism. Peace 🙂

Who says I don’t have an understanding of it? I have an understanding of it and many other beliefs. I explained it to the best of my ability on a forum. It wasn’t long or detailed but that does not mean I don’t have an understanding. I have been studying SDA doctrine for under two years and I have a lot of knowledge. I may not have a complete understanding of everything but neither do you and everybody else. We all learn something new as the days pass. That’s why I’m studying.

If you truly have an understanding then it’s fine to say what they believe as long as you use scripture as evidence. I am completely fine with that. But if you start giving your opinion with no proof (and I mean hardcore proof with no assumptions) then what can one say? If you put something that does not match up with their doctrine then expect someone to correct you. Like I said, how can someone argue if you have proof and not speculation? If I’m not mistaken, I saw you on another thread stating what SDA’s believe.
Sorry, this is the wrong quote. 😉

But in this thread I’ve read something about “SDA and the Trinity?”.

Now I’ve found the following article on wikipedia:

Hi folks,

in another thread we’ve been talking about the Trinity and the SDA.
But I’m afraid I can’t find it anymore! (I’ve started a new one on this because I couldn’t find this thread anymore! ;))

So I decided to start this thread here, as I’ve found something interesting on wikipedia:

A poster in mentioned thread stated that SDA don’t believe in the Trinity.
But know I’ve found this: The CSDA (Creation Seventh-Day Adventitst) view was held by the great majority of the early Seventh-day Adventist leadership, however was abandoned in favor of the Trinity doctrine by the Seventh-day Adventist denomination in the mid-20th century.[45]

I’ve always though that it’s not possible to convert to Judaism, unless you are not a born Jew?
If I remeber correctly, this is also true for Hinduism (except some sects or even cults).

I find it very telling that the usual Adventist, who are usually on the forum quoting verses at us, on other threads are not here to discuss their beliefs or defend them. In all Charity, I really am beginning to wonder, if their prescence on CAF is to discuss…Or to prosylatize. Just a thought. I have extended and continue to extend a welcome to come on this thread and a couple others like it, to come here on an open thread to defend their beliefs. Their silence is very telling. Peace to all. 😦
