Actually, coming up on 3000 posts. The insertion of a post gets slower after about 2100 or so posts.

The Trump topic is well over 2000 posts without any signs of being closed so I think the limit must have been changed or dropped.
Yeah, when you start getting ( Error 502) it’s coming to a end.

What I’m seeing here is no bridge between science and Church teaching. People who want it to be science only, and ignore the Church, aren’t helping. I have faith in the Church.

That’s a description of the result. Those animals at no point were trying to become whales.

I get Error 502 when posting to other threads too - even when there are not that many postings in it. And most of the time the posting gets posted despite throwing the error. I think just once I had a posting actually fail to post upon getting a 502 error.

That’s right. It’s very likely that our one lucky guy will reproduce with a normal slug, and his advantage will just slip away into the general DNA of his species. Some of it depends how strong his genes are (dominant or recessive), some of it depends how strong environmental pressures are, etc.

But sometimes it happens that environmental pressures are very strong, and that the one lucky guy gets enough offspring who also thrive, that a trait starts to spread through the species. This has happened with people-- whether you believe in evolution or not, DNA tests show that there are certain common human ancestors. In that sense, I’ll bet there is an Adam-- a person to whom all other humans might trace their ancestry.

Here’s an interesting link that I think provides some support for a single matriarch:

I’m pretty sure that’s where the Spiderman idea came from-- scientists knew that nuclear radiation leads to an increase in mutation. Usually, that just means cancer, but. . . 😃

This thread mores very fast and there’s a few posts that I would like to respond to. But it’s a bit difficult so it will have to be later.

We assume rather than know, and yes it does cause cancer - don’t try it.

And that is one of the problems with evolutionary theory, that it offers a poor explanation for the original of the Species.

Actually, modern sci-fi reflects some of the not so underlying anxiety about where we are heading with our research.

Spiderman is alright. It’s these guys that in our dreams we worry about:

Some want to modify animals and humans via genetic engineering. Not a good idea.

The Biology textbook, as it should, excludes God. The Catholic Church must include God. Also, God speaks to us through the Bible things that are revealed truths. These things cannot be confirmed by science. That raises difficulties for those who want, or demand, Science Only - no God/gods, or anything supernatural. That is and will be the sticking point indefinitely. So be it.

As far as some people can tell, it was all an accident. Human beings were never created, we are just part of an unguided developmental process. Nothing more. We are only biological robots and all that matters is successful reproduction. If we can’t reproduce successfully, we go extinct. No big deal. Right? Just like a quarter of the animals on earth right now that are in danger of extinction. No big deal as long as humans survive.

Faith? Not scientific.
Can you imagine the medical breakthroughs that would be made by faith, rather than research? The explanations for physical phenomena that could be proposed based on faith rather than science? Science and Faith aren’t the same, so you’re dead right - faith is not scientific. But nor are they in conflict. It’s only some people who want to claim they are.

But instead of saying thank you and “I see now” you go right on asking more questions of the very same sort. It appears more and more that you do not really want an answer. So I will respect your wishes and not give you one.
In fact, the questions have descended to nonsense. They have become lame attempts at feigning “dumbness”. A kind of ridicule.

But not in a text on biology.

It’s not a problem for science though. It’s the nature of science.

We are here - what more evidence for creation do you require? Your difficulty is that you want to require the means of creation to match your concept of it. That is entirely a blind spot you need to cope with. The manner of creation - other than that it’s origins lie with God - matters not one jot to your salvation.
We are only biological robots…
…and who are in a unique relationship with God as Scripture and your Faith teaches you. You will never find this in a science book.
If we can’t reproduce successfully, we go extinct. Just like a quarter of the animals on earth right now that are in danger of extinction.
The first statement is surely true. The second quite possibly. And don’t forget the countless species that are already extinct and that no man ever saw live.

“We are here” doesn’t explain anything. But, so be it.

Jesus Christ became part of that creation and He matters 100%.

I want to know why some people are so opposed to the idea of evolution. It’s possible that God used evolution as the means to bring us here, you know. I don’t believe it was all accident, that would imply that God didn’t have a hand in it. But I do think evolution is every bit plausible.
There’s a long list of reasons that would require many pages. There’s no point writing something you will probably not read. If you want to know what I think, click on my icon and it will give you quite a number of posts. It matters to me because I like to figure things out. The primary reason though is that trying to understand the wondrous miracle of life, one is to witness to God’s glory.

There’s no scientific evidence for any god you can name. The whole idea is nonsense. The Biology textbook has all the answers you need. Forget about superstition. Forget about religion.

God forbid.

Think about it. God has no place in science. So atheists love that. It’s a way to prove God doesn’t exist and ignore, and confuse, those religious types. Atheism is the goal. Evolution has no scientific value. But it can influence people to think God does not exist.
