How long have we been in Korea and Germany and Japan?? .
Too long. American people are suffering from poverty and are rioting in American cities such as Baltimore. Instead of stationing troops overseas in so many different countries, Americans need to offer some protection and support for the people in poverty being hurt by this rioting and crime.

Iran proxy wars are to blame for a lot of the trouble in Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq. That is not the US’s fault.

The disapproval rate for Bush in October 2008 was 75% and Nixon’s disapproval rate was about the same toward the end of his presidency. Obama has a much higher approval rate than either Bush or Nixon near the end of their presidency.
George Washingtons approval rating was much higher than Obama’s. It peaked at 100%.

Did Bush encourage the Arab Spring?? He hasn’t been president since 2009. He didn’t create a quagmire.

How long have we been in Korea and Germany and Japan??

The Jihadis are a long term threat which everyone knows is so.

Why isn’t Obama withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan? Looks like your same argument is there. And we know now, it would be dangerous just to yank all troops out of Afghanistan.
You think the rebels of the Arab Spring were listening to Obama ?

What should Obama have done ?

Speak out against democracy which they were seeking ?

Seems to me what you’re blaming Obama for in supporting democracy, is what you supported Bush for trying to do when he sought to bring democracy to Iraq.

The only difference of course is that Bush used US lives and treasure. Remember, his father’s administration predicted the quagmire, back in the 1st Gulf War when they refused to go in take Saddam down.

Bush and Cheney invaded under false pretenses according to many sources. They did not research the area and were lacking knowledge about the unintended consequences of the invasion. Shiites were put in power and the Sunnis were dissatisfied. The American invasion of Iraq served as a catalyst for the Sunni extremists to organize and attempt to form an extremist caliphate.
True, and when then VP Cheney was asked by Tim Russert, if it was important to learn about the culture of the country we’re invading first, he said, “NO, it was not necessary.”

Jim

So you are saying it was important to learn the culture of Nazi Germany before invading? Alrighty.

Maybe Conversational Arabic classes should have been given out as well.

Ridgerunner;12981760:
They were negotiating but would not bend as far has having US Soldiers subject to Iraqi laws.

Obama rightly refused to give in to that demand and rightly pulled US troops out.

Jim
Untrue. Obama reduced the requested number to a number the Iraqi parliament would not approve for extraterritoriality. Maliki offered a “presidential” extraterritoriality agreement. Obama refused that and withdrew from all further negotiations.

In the presidential debates, Obama admitted that he didn’t want a status of forces agreement, he just wanted the troops out of Iraq.

Obama threw away the negotiations to give him an excuse to pull out. Even Leon Panetta, Obama’s Secretary of Defense at the time, admitted that Ohttp://foreignpolicy.com/2011/10/21/how-the-obama-administration-bungled-the-iraq-withdrawal-negotiations/bama insisted on pulling out against the advice of intelligence and the military.

But the Russian sponsored Syrian government was committing genocide against the Sunnis, can’t blame the US for that.

WMDs were found in Iraq, that’s the truth, it’s been addressed plenty of times already.
The WMD’s found in Iraq were old useless left over shells from their war with Iran.

Bush/Cheney went in because they sold people on the idea that Saddam was creating a nuclear bomb, not sarin or mustard gas. Other countries like Iran and Syria also have those gas weapons, we didn’t invade them over it.

Jim

But how popular would George Washington be today with the military industrial complex and the Republicans who want to expand the military might of the USA all over the world. Didn’t George Washington say to avoid all entangling alliances. Perhaps this was the reason that he was so popular, with a popularity of 100%.
If American politicians were smart, they would pay attention to this great and popular American leader, Mr. George Washington, and withdraw all American troops and military operations from foreign soil and thereby avoid entangling alliances as Mr. George Washington advised with great wisdom and insight.

Yes, and we actually knew German and Nazi culture by the time we got into Germany.

But your flaw in bringing this up in comparing the invasion of Iraq is, Germany declared war on the United States.

Jim

At this point in time, the argument is all irrelevant.

The ME is in a mess and George Bush and Cheney created it.

Jim

That is not such a bad idea. Americans think that everyone should speak English, but this has only made them more disliked. The way you befriend a nation is to understand their language and culture.

It may not have been the aim but Saddam was convicted of genocide against the Kurds, was in a war that lost perhaps up to a million in war with Iran and he invaded a foreign country.

As for what were in those weapons found, some of it may have been a different quality/grade of WMD, yellow cake or sarin than what was previously found. So it may have been new, I haven’t seen a conclusive investigation on this.

I don’t think Colin Powell was holding up a vial of atomic energy.

Oh really? Is that the way you rationalize the Christians killed in the Arab spring in Egypt?? That Bush thought Mubarak had to go??

Or actions in Libya and Syria??

And the Arab Spring happened under Bush’s watch? Really??

If Clinton had enforced the surrender treaty with Iraq, we would not have had to take action against Iraq. Whether we agree or not. Clinton kicked the can down the road for the next president.

So by your logic, President Clinton created the mess in the Middle East.

It wasn’t the job of the US to get revenge on Saddam for gassing Kurds, back when we were supplying him with weapons.

There was no yellow cake found, this was made up from Cheney’s lie, which was exposed and they retaliated by exposing CIA operative Valerie Plame

Even Bush said publicly, that he was surprised no WMD’s were found in Iraq.

Was he lying ?

Jim

It was a UN resolution, not a US treaty.

Clinton had no authority to invade Iraq.

He did bomb them however.

Jim

Iraq was already ruled by a Sunni extremist named Saddam Hussein. He might not have been an Islamic extremist, but he started two wars, used WMD in one of them, gassed his own people and was responsible for a million deaths. How bad did you really want him to be? ISIS is murderous and vicious, but so was Saddam.

Obama should not have left Iraq. His own military and Secretary of Defense said that, including to Obama himself. But Obama left, knowing full well that the Middle east would be just like it is now if we did.

Shiites outnumbered the Sunni Arabs by a substantial margin; almost two to one. Did anyone really expect they would not dominate the Iraqi parliament? After we left, the Shiite power shifted to the Al Sadr group which were supported by Iran.

The current mess in the Middle East is “Obama’s war”, no question about it.
