I was careful to preface my use of the word “irresistible” with the modifier “seems.” What I mean is that God can enlighten our ignorance and inclination toward evil which now blinds us and makes us slaves to sin, thereby making our choice for love seem like a foregone conclusion. He can do it! Do any of us accept God and reject sin based on our own merits? For those of us who are saved, who choose to cooperate with God’s saving grace, isn’t it always God calling us in a way we find compelling? But why isn’t everyone so compelled when Scripture clearly teaches that God wills the salvation of all? (1 Timothy 2:4) Isn’t it somehow possible that God, who is outside of time and wills the salvation of all, will reveal Himself in a way that seems irresistible to all because it is so obviously the right choice? I think it could be, and it could be so without relinquishing our free will, for nothing is impossible with God. I’m only speculating here, trying, not that well, to express a desire I feel. And I am encouraged that greater minds than mine have also pondered this and come to the conclusion that we may reasonably hold this hope.If God reveals Himself to us in an irresistible manner, then we are not free to choose Him. Depriving man of freedom is an affront to God’s creation, therefore an affront to God Himself.

This is a diversion from the actual message of Julian of Norwich, however, but a necessary one, I suppose, because people draw conclusions from what she leaves vague.
