I thought the point of the creation story that our ancestors sinned? I’m kind of confused.

surveys on the subject indicate it’s only supported by 60% of blacks
Notwithstanding the lack of references to “surveys” to substantiate claims, 60% is a pretty significant majority (political candidates would salivate over garnering 60% of the votes in an election, and President Trump would be in ecstasy if "only "60% was closer to his approval rather than disapproval ratings were)…so, I’m not seeing what your point is.

I read multiple surveys that seemed to concur. Yes, her strategy is likely to garner primary votes and she’ll turn it off for the General election.

Literally none of my ancestors succumbed to the temptation of Satan in the Garden, yet my family has to pay for the disobedience of something someone else’s ancestors did because we look like them by being created in the same image of God? Was my baptism necessary?
That is an excellent point. All decedents of Adam and Eve are to be blamed for slavery, and everything else, for that matter. We do all bear communal guilt. I just don’t see how this affects the reparation issue. Even in a court of law, deciding civil damages for one person, by one person, for one act, can be difficult. Deciding on communal damages for communal victims, passed down to for half a dozen generations, for a societal ill, is simply not possible.

here is one of many surveys on the topic. This one targeted black respondents

1.) What form would you like to see reparations take?
  • 27.46 percent of our participants voted “We want a check.”
  • 23.37 percent voted “Free higher education for all Black Americans and employment opportunities.”
  • 8.43 percent voted “Improved conditions in predominately Black communities.”
  • 40.74 percent voted “I don’t want reparations.”
2.) Do you think criminal charges should be filed against the U.S. government for crimes against humanity?
  • 43.16 percent of our participants voted “Absolutely, they profited from the enslavement of Africans.”
  • 26.14 percent voted “No, I don’t. The U.S. government didn’t enslave us; they fought against the Confederacy and won. “
  • 30.7 percent voted “No, the government doesn’t have any money; it’s taxpayers’ money, so we’d have to pay twice.”
3.) Should reparations be paid through public and social services?
  • 31.23 percent voted “Yes, all descendants of slaves should be eligible for financial assistance, with no restrictions.”
  • 68.77 percent voted “No, reparations are separate. If people need additional help, then they should be able to get it.”
4.) Should President Barack speak out publicly in support of reparations for the African-African community?
  • 42.71 percent of our participants voted “Of course, he speaks out for every other ‘special interest’ group, why not African Americans?”
  • 57.29% voted “No, he can’t do anything anyway. We don’t need another political speech.”
5.) Should Black people who owned slaves be liable to pay?
  • 42.74 percent voted “No, how do we know if they really owned slaves or had to free their families by purchasing them?”
  • 57.26 percent voted “Yes, they’re no better than White people who owned slaves.”
6.) The Cherokee Nation owned slaves as well. Should we also petition the tribal governments for reparations?
  • 53.55 percent of our participants voted “Yes, we should.”
  • 46.45 percent voted, “No, we were not subjected to the same atrocities within the Cherokee Nation as Whites.”
7.) Should the African empires who contributed to the enslavement of Africans pay up for reparations?
  • 69.78 percent of our participants voted, “Yes, the beginning of “Black-on-Black” crime in the United States began with that betrayal.”
  • 30.22 percent voted, “No, they had no idea what vicious and dehumanizing conditions they were selling our ancestors into.”
8.) Do you believe that reparations, in any form, will ever be paid?
  • 9.32 percent of our participants voted, “Yes, it’s inevitable.”
  • 58.17 percent voted, “No, and it’s time that we moved on.”
  • 32.51 percent voted, “Anything is possible if we fight for it.”

JonNC:
You don’t know what my approach is, other than what I’ve said. What I’ve said is I’ve learned not to trust the MSM because they’ve proven themselves to be the “Pravda” for the DNC.
Does you definition of “MSM” include Fox, which clearly is also part of MSM?

I don’t trust any one source, which is why I bracket what I read and hear from numerous sources, even including Fox btw.
Sure I include Fox, except they are distinct in that they are not decidedly biased in their news reporting. Their commentary tends conservative, but not their news reporting.

I guess its all in how one wants to stack the deck:

Question 1: 40.74 said no…but total of about 59% wanted some action taken…so, no…doesn’t pass the math test.

Question 2: If combined response 1 and 3…uh, no…again, doesn’t pass the math test.

Question 3: If noting "…reparations are separate…again, a dismal failure of the math test.

I can’t bear to go on, it is so off the mark…now, you said “here is one of many surveys on the topic. This one targeted black respondents”…your original post said you had read “several” surveys showing blacks did not want reparations.

If you only have this one, or this is the best of your “several”, I would say your claims are not very well substantiated.

Metis1.

I went to that survey you linked to and immediately they had something concerning Sean Hannity.

I think ALL news outlets are biased.

But this survey you linked to, is not what JonNC referred to when discussing FoxNews lack of bias.

This survey is a comparison of proverbial apples to oranges (concerning what JonNC alluded to and FoxNews).

Go back and re-read what Jon had to say, and see if you understand why this survey is irrelevant to Jon’s point (irrespective of if you agree with JonNC or not).

The survey that Metis1 linked to at Business Insider was about the news, not the commentaries. As such it directly contradicts JonNC, who was also referring to the news departments of Fox News vs others.

LeafByNiggle . . .
The survey that Metis1 linked to at Business Insider was about the news
.

In the context of news ORGANIZATIONS (not news PROGRAMMING).

This is a distinction without a difference. If people perceive a news organization as being biased, it is because of the biased reporting. What could it possibly mean to say that Fox News is seen as a biased news organization, but still puts out unbiased news? Similarly, how could PBS news reporting be perceived as biased if the PBS news organization was not perceived as biased? It’s the same thing!

It’s the same thing!
It is NOT the “same thing” and anyone who watches FoxNews regularly has heard Sean Hannity (and others) personally state he is not doing journalism in that sense.

I think you should just admit it and be done with it Leaf.

The comparison was faulty.

It’s the same thing!
People know that Hannity is not a reporter, and that his program is not a news program. When people were asked to evaluate the bias of news reporting, they were evaluating the bias of news reporting, not the commentary department. PBS has a commentary department too (Shields and Brooks, and Amy Walters and Tamara Keith) but their commentary is also not part of the evaluation in the survey.

That was my whole point.

Now you are merely morphing your argument.

I’ll tell you what LeafByNiggle. You go ahead and think whatever you want.

Edited to add: “That was my whole point.”

No time to read them all, but in reading the first one, it appears the “view” of any news outlet depends on the politics of the person asked. So, for example, Democrats think publications like WaPo are unbiased and Fox is terribly biased. Repubs think the exact opposite.

Nothing new in any of that.
