In my own neighborhood in New York City, there are plenty of Hasidic Jewish people who do not wear masks. Even one supermarket that caters to this group does not require masks. I don’t know if it’s just because they don’t know what’s going on because they don’t have television or listen to the news, or they believe G-d will protect them, or they just don’t care; but sometimes when I see them walking without masks, I feel like going up to them and asking why they are endangering themselves and others (of course I don’t).

I understand perfectly now.
I must say that I doubt it.
Whenever we ask the tough questions, you answer with “no” or “I don’t want to”.
So what can I think except that you are incapable of making a sensible defense of your position?

I follow the guidelines from my government and our public health officials.

Incapable or don’t feel a need to are different things. The laws where I am do not require that I wear a mask. So I chose not to. What’s there to defend when it comes to me exercising my rights? Because I REALLY DON’T CARE if you agree with it or not.

You don’t see any connection between the high rate of unemployment and people being laid off from their jobs? Where did all these unemployed people come from then?

And you know why? Because as of now, many European countries have gotten the virus under control, something the United States, as a whole, has failed to do. Two reasons for this: lack of adequate leadership at the top and the stubbornness and foolishness of the American people.

So you’re spending hours on this forum arguing, but you don’t feel a need to.
You know, everyone will assume that you can’t defend your position logically. Or in any other way.

In my country there have not been widespread usage of masks at any time and we had almost no lockdown. Basically we didn’t do anything.

No, I do not see a correlation between when someone claims a majority as opposed to what an actual majority is.

Unemployment would have to hover around 50% before one could claim a majority of employers are firing.

Unemployment of only 11% doesn’t cut it.

Then you must realize that the numbers are now spiking in Sweden and things are not going well. Or is this American propaganda?

Free testing was introduced a couple of weeks ago so the number of confirmed cases has gone up. The death rate has declined significantly, from 100+ per day in April down to 20-30 now. Some of the few restrictions we had have now been lifted, perhaps a bit too early but our public health officials didn’t protest.

So how do you account for this? Has herd immunity been achieved, or do the Swedes (like the Hasidic Jews) have some innate defense against the virus?

Do we yet know what will happen to those who have been tested, whether they will come down with the virus, what the asymptomatic effects may be in the future (due to internal lung scarring, for example), how many will die? Hopefully, herd immunity has been achieved.

Obviously I don’t know if herd immunity has been achieved, no one does. Probably not in all of Sweden, but perhaps Stockholm where most infections occured. A large majority of the infected people got mild symtoms, but many elderly got very sick. Most deaths are among 70+ and live in nursing homes. The debate in Sweden is mainly focused on the nursing home situation.
