By not wearing a mask, I have killed no one.
It is contrary to the virtue of respect for health, which is a part of the commandment.

Catechism:
2288 Life and physical health are precious gifts entrusted to us by God.
We must take reasonable care of them, taking into account the needs of others and the common good.

This has not been violated either.
I have not killed, not have I put anyone through any unreasonable risk.

In fact, i personally have noticed that wearing a mask causes a false sense of security. And people continue to act in ways that encourage the spread of the virus believing they have done enough.

What is absolutely disgusting is the hatred and judgment of others that I see from Catholics towards each other. That and the need to control everyone.

Of this, I agree.
And to be fair to you, I understand your position is “masks are ineffective” not “masks might be effective but it’s not my job to care about other people.” Your position is reasonable (though I still think it’s incorrect) while the latter is actually evil.

People are in control of their own actions, which can increase or mitigate the risk of Covid spreading.
People being in control of their own actions is what keeps Democrats and Republicans up at night. It frustrates the heck out of them when they can’t force you to live the way they think you ought to.

I don’t think there’s anything to gain by arguing about the virtues of anarchism again.

If my neighbor feels strongly enough to ask, I most certainly will put a mask on.

That is just common courtesy.
That’s one area where you and I part. If my neighbor asked me to put on a mask, I would politely decline. Unless, of course, I was on their property.

DISCLAIMER: This is based on the US only. Also, I wear a mask and do not have anything personally against them (esp when I’m wearing a good one that doesn’t fog up my glasses)
  1. I do NOT believe it is Constitutionally legal for the FEDERAL govt to make such a law. HOWEVER, I DO think it is legal for the States, Counties and/or cities to create mandatory mask laws.
  2. If the local govt does not have a law/mandate regarding masks, it is TOTALLY within a business or organization’s rights to mandate them within their private property (whether owned or leased). We must all respect a business’s right regarding this.
  3. I think some rules regarding masks are just good, common sense. While others (like you can’t work in your own garden) are totally ridiculous.
  4. I also have an issue with inconsistent enforcement. For example: In NYC, the mayor was threatening to shutting down Orthodox Jewish synagogues because they were in the streets (with masks) protesting an injustice. HOWEVER, after George Floyd’s death (which was not in NYC), he was totally fine with massive protests (regardless if they were wearing masks or not).
  5. Regarding Mass… this is where I’m most conflicted. While I think we should all be willing to wear masks within 6 feet of each other, I don’t have a problem if a person removes their mask while sitting in the pew (assuming they are well spaced from another person). I also do NOT want to see people who are unwilling to wear masks kicked out of the Church.
Therefore, I picked “No feelings either way”

God Bless

It is not other people that needs control. It is a spreading virus that needs to be controlled. I would think this would be obvious. Do you also think smoking should be allowed everywhere? It is downright tame in comparison.

“Thou shalt not kill,
By not wearing a mask, I have killed no one.
I think you may misunderstand the Law / Command; “Thou shalt not kill” is not spoken to a person “after the fact” of killing, but is spoken to you before it enters your intentions, so that when you have opportunity to “avoid the near occasion of sin” (opportunity to avoid the actions which may result in sin), then you will be able to do the correct action that will not end in the sin happening.

Not wearing a mask is akin to inviting someone to come close and take a chance on dying by my breathing on them; wearing a mask is akin to caring about the welfare of the person approaching, both his psychological trust and his actual physical well-being, so that he knows I have his welfare in mind as if he were myself.

“thou shalt not kill” keeps your neighbor around so you can do good for him and to him; it is a futile command for someone prancing about without a mask who pretends to be surprised when someone dies because of his breathing.

When a woman decides abortion is her best option, that decision is a death sentence to a member of her family.
Her decision to take the life of another affects all of us; it devalues human life.
That is quite a leap to make. However, if I play along and accept it, not wearing a mask potentially still affects more people by directly killing them, and allowing for a global pandemic to continue to spiral out of control, which kills many more.

Good. I’m glad you agree that nobody needs to control me. Let me decide whether or not to wear a mask. Well, as for now, I’m allowed to choose and I choose not to.
Do you also think smoking should be allowed everywhere?
Not at all. If I owned a store, I should be able to say smoking in my store is or is not allowed.

That would be impossible to prove, unless you have zero contact with people.
Even with contact.

Since it would require a positive accusation and proof, I can safely say, no. I have killed no one.
Any statement otherwise would require proof…and that would be exceedingly difficult to determine.

This is a logical fallacy. Absence of proof is not proof of absence. That no one could definitely prove you killed someone does not definitively prove that you haven’t.
