Welcome to the Forums.

Well, we must beleive that she is the Mother of Jesus, and as Jesus is both God and Man, the mother of God. You can use the term Theotokos (God-Bearer)

We must beleive that she remained a virgin until death.

We must beleive that she was born without stain of original sin.

We must beleive that she was assumed into heaven.

We must beleive that she is a member of the Communion of Saints and part of the Church Triumphant.

Mary’s divine maternity, perpetual virginity, immaculate conception, glorious assumption, universal spiritual motherhood, cooperation in the work of redemption, and queenship. I think that’s everything, unless I missed something.

Thank you. That’s perfect.🙂

Universal spiritual motherhood is actually a part of her role within the Communion of Saints and Church Triumphant. AS Jesus put her in John’s care, and John in hers, we see that all Christians can call upon her for help and intercession. It is a specialized role in the Communion of Saints that only she has as the Mother of Christ.

Her Queenship is seen as a fulfillment of the Davidic kingdom, where the mother of the king had a higher role than any other woman. AS the Queen-Mother (Mother of the King), she has a special access to Christ.

Sory to butt in…

She is our universal spiritual mother, having been the mother of our universal redeemer.

She cooperated in God’s work of redemption by saying “yes” to the Angel Gabriel, by bearing Christ, by raising Him, and by remaining with Him throughout His life on earth.

She is the Queen of Heaven, from Revelation 12:1.

Keep in mind that all this fuss about Mary is really about who JESUS is.

Proper Mariology (teaching about Mary) and Marian devotion is a subset of Christology (teaching about Christ).

I love our Queen Mother Mary!

Jesus is the King and the mother of the King is rightfully the…Queen!

What is a king without a queen?

Didn’t Christ say those who obeyed God were his brothers, sister, and mother? Therefore, ALL have “special access”.

Avenger,

The fact that she remained a virgin is not directly mention is scripture. However, it is not mentioned that she had any other children either. I suggest that you do research on Catholic.com to understand the Catholic postion on this. Logically, using only Scripture, we can say that she had no other children before Jesus was 12. The “brothers of Jesus” who tried to talk him into leaving were not acting like younger siblings. Further, why would Jesus leave his mother in the hands of John if he had other siblings?

She is described in Scriptures as being full of Grace. Original sin, as the West understands it, is not directly mentioned in Scriptures, either.

The Assumption was not mentioned in Scripture, either. Want to know one reason that may be the case? Because she was not dead yet. She is alive at the beginning of Acts. In fact, her death is never recorded. Would it be that hard to accept that she lived another 15-20 years or more after the Ressurection?

In any event, all three of these things were held by the first century Christians as true. We see them in one form or another in the EO CHurch. No Christian doubted them until the second generation of Reformers. Who should I trust? Those from 110 AD or those from 1600 AD?

Now, your second post shows a grave misunderstanding of the Communion of Saints, and of that verse. No one can deny that Mary did the will of the Father perfectly. That is fact in scripture. That is also one reason we hold that she was without original sin. Anyway, she is a full member of the Communion of Saints as part of the Church Triumphant. As Jesus kept the law of Moses perfectly, why should we think that he does not honor his Father and Mother perfectly? Part of the understanding of the Communion of Saints is that those in the Church Triumphant have easier access to God. Their prayers are more effacacious than ours on earth.

Ralphinal,
I did leave out the universal spiritual motherhood. Sorry. 😊
Not to get overly technical, but can you quote (or point me to) the precise wording of this required doctrine?

So, just to clarify, you’re not adding to your list of required-to-be-Catholic teachings about Mary, right? Or are you?

But that doesn’t mean that all are the same.

“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

AuntT,

I just want to clarify that when we say "In order to be Catholic, one must believe ______ ", we are not implying that if you’re not Catholic, then it is fine and dandy to deny “_________”.

In fact, we believe that all Christians ought to believe all of the dogmas; it’s just that if you aren’t Catholic and you deny a dogma, then you aren’t in danger of being excommunicated from the Catholic Church (obviously, since you weren’t in communion with the Catholic Church in the first place).

I am not including co-Redemptrix, no. It is not required. Nor am I including anything from an appearition. They are not required.

Honestly, I do not know the doctrine on her queenship. I do know that it is a part of the Faith. I always took it as a default teaching, not defined as dogma but understood as there is a feast day for it.
