As a Catholic, what MUST one believe about Mary?
Then, I suppose, my question should have been…What has the RCC declared as dogma about Mary?what the RCC has declared dogma about the BVM
Thank you. That’s perfect.Welcome to the Forums.
Well, we must beleive that she is the Mother of Jesus, and as Jesus is both God and Man, the mother of God. You can use the term Theotokos (God-Bearer)
We must beleive that she remained a virgin until death.
We must beleive that she was born without stain of original sin.
We must beleive that she was assumed into heaven.
We must beleive that she is a member of the Communion of Saints and part of the Church Triumphant.
I did leave out the universal spiritual motherhood. Sorry.Thank you. That’s perfect.![]()
These I don’t understand.universal spiritual motherhood, cooperation in the work of redemption, and queenship. .
Amen.Keep in mind that all this fuss about Mary is really about who JESUS is.
Proper Mariology (teaching about Mary) and Marian devotion is a subset of Christology (teaching about Christ).

Didn’t Christ say those who obeyed God were his brothers, sister, and mother? Therefore, ALL have “special access”.Universal spiritual motherhood is actually a part of her role within the Communion of Saints and Church Triumphant. AS Jesus put her in John’s care, and John in hers, we see that all Christians can call upon her for help and intercession. It is a specialized role in the Communion of Saints that only she has as the Mother of Christ.
Her Queenship is seen as a fulfillment of the Davidic kingdom, where the mother of the king had a higher role than any other woman. AS the Queen-Mother (Mother of the King), she has a special access to Christ.
Not to get overly technical, but can you quote (or point me to) the precise wording of this required doctrine?I did leave out the universal spiritual motherhood. Sorry.![]()
So, just to clarify, you’re not adding to your list of required-to-be-Catholic teachings about Mary, right? Or are you?Her Queenship is seen as a fulfillment of the Davidic kingdom, where the mother of the king had a higher role than any other woman. But that doesn’t mean that all are the same.Didn’t Christ say those who obeyed God were his brothers, sister, and mother? Therefore, ALL have “special access”.
I am not including co-Redemptrix, no. It is not required. Nor am I including anything from an appearition. They are not required.Ralphinal,
