So who in your family/friends was abused by a male doctor? I am truly sorry for what your family member/friend or you went through.

I would suggest that you seek professional counseling. One does not have the type of attitude and obsession you have without there being something in your past or the past of someone you love.
Ahapka…thanks for your concern. My wife says that she was once touched inappropriately by a male doctor when she was a young lady. She went to see the male doctor for only her “toe”, but the doctor had her “disrobe”.

This got reported back to her parents. I guess the real point I am trying to make here is why would any woman take the chance, when it can try to be avoided.

I had to go look… Homers you know that wasn’t a serious thread right? (I also happen to wonder what in the world you were doing reading it as well… that was just pointless filth.)

I’m guessing your referring too “Dr. McSteamys” posts… the name should tell you the amount of credibility to give to the poster and if that’s not enough just look at his title thing under his name “Natural born pervert” now add to that unlike every other poster there is no information about his status in education, location ect… this lowers his credibility even further. Just to completely further add to the absurdity of trying to use that as an factual source of information for basing an opinion lets look at the forum its posted in… “The Lounge”, oh look there is a sticky about the type of forum it is:
Forum Sticky:
The Doctors’ Lounge forums are available to guests registered at the Student Doctor Network ( studentdoctor.net ). SDN is a site for students to discuss issues important to their educational success. DrsLounge.com was created as a place for students to kick back and relax, away from the formality of the SDN Forums.

Adult discussion is acceptable. Keep it within limits – this is a site that is open to everyone, so we ask that users stick to guidelines following the MPAA’s “Rated-R” classification.
So, your using a thread started in an loosely moderated, off topic, forum to JOKE about the awkwardness of pelvics (not arousal) in which only one persons (mostly likely not a doctor) jumped in and hijacked the thread saying nasty, creepy stuff and EVERYONE ELSE told him it was unprofessional creepy stuff and that you would have to be ALL kinds of not normal for doing a pelvic to turn you on.

No offence but that’s setting your self up to be abused. Why in the world would she actually take her close off if she was going for her toe. That’s when you leave and find another doctor.

Here is why a woman would take a “chance”, there are a great deal of really good male OB/GYN’s out there and a great deal of really bad female OB/GYN’s. Pregnancy complications can be fatal, cervical cancer can be fatal. I want the BEST OB/GYN I can get regardless of gender. I’d go to a male OB/GYN with a good reputation with out second thought over a female OB/GYN with a bad reputation. We’re not talking about just an appointment, we’re talking in a very real way about entrusting our lives to this person should something go wrong. The truth is, if you have done your homework on a doctor your going to know if there is something not quite right going on and there is very little or no “chance” going on. The bigger risk in my mind is who I want standing there if I started to bleed out after delivery.

Dear LJN…Thanks for also weighing in. It seems that your only quoting one portion of this link, and not taking in to full account that these are medical doctors, and medical students expressing their true mentality. Based upon some entries one would assume it would take a certain amount of intellegence and medical knowledge to write them, thus they are viewed as being crediable. It is no different than animity we all share here.

Homers,

“Is this 1901, no, but I tell you what, I would much rather have the values from that era.”

If it was 1901, your wife’s visit to the doctor could go include the treatment of hysteria.

Google hysteria treament. I’m sure you would be much happier with that medical treatment.{sarcasm}.

You say that there are a lot of “good male doctors out there,” but you also said that there are a lot of “really bad female doctors”. Surely there must be just as many good women female doctors out there? I agree that one would probably want the best care available, but at what expense. Surely a just as competent female doctor can render the same kind of care that a male doctor can. *When there’s time enough for an appointment, there’s time for modesty.

Uhh… No, anyone can post on that forum, you do not have to be a medical doctor or a student to do so. You need no more intelligence or medical knowledge than a passing familiarity with vulgar terminology (not medical terminology) to understand or post in that thread. They are simply NOT credible. There is nothing that even remotely hits at creditability. The fact is the Internet is mostly anonymous, anyone can go to wikipedia spend a minute looking up terms and write something that looks okay and claim to be whoever they want and someone will buy it as creditable, your post proves this.

As far as their “true” mentality, I for one (as a woman) don’t really get bent out of shape about a couple guys joking about a procedure that’s got to be uncomfortable at best to start out with. That’s got nothing to do with there arousal, who they are, what their intentions and disposition at the time of the procedure but everything to do with human nature and how people sometimes deal with stressful uncomfortable situations. Going back to the first post:
Part of OP:
Since I love comedy, I can’t help but notice the almost infinite opportunity for humor. I’m sure a bunch of people will think “oh, grow up” but I can’t help it.
Nothing more than sophmoric potty humor that happens in every work place that even the WOMEN participate in. The the forum troll “Dr. McSteamy” took things wildly off track.

Paul…I’ll assure you that you don’t want my full undivided attention. Keep on topic!

Get in the car and drive to the next town then!
How far? 100 miles? 250 miles? 500 miles?

You keep talking about how so many doctor’s have crossed the line, give us percentages, quote and reference studies.

"Paul…I’ll assure you that you don’t want my full undivided attention. Keep on topic! "

First. I don’t have the time to spend hours here. I’ve got to head out to lunch.

Second. I find it incredibly hard to feel intimidated by you on a message board. 🤷

Not necessarily. It depends on where you live. Some places there aren’t any good female OB/GYN in any kind of reasonable distance. I have a fabulous female OB/GYN, I know for a fact some of the other women in her practice aren’t so good. I know of some really wonderful male OB/GYN I’d go to long before I’d go to most of the other people in her office.

Your phrase " *When there’s time enough for an appointment, there’s time for modesty" is a strawman, it implies that there is something immodest about medical procedures. There is nothing immodest about a male doing a pelvic or a female examining a penis. Its a moral neutral. Yes, improper things could happen, but you could also walk out in the street and get hit by a buss. Does that mean you shouldn’t ever cross the street? At the end of the day all that maters is the doctors ability and professionalism, gender does not. If a doctor is professional and competent there is no worry about improper things happening, again regardless of gender.

OMG, you OBVIOUSLY don’t work in the medical field LOL! Proper??? Are you kidding me? This is almost laughable!!

Every day in the emergency room I insert foleys in male penises and male nurses will insert them into female urethras. So what? What we do as MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS is much different then those stories will have you believe.

Sure there are a couple of sick doctors out there, but out of the hundreds of thousands of OB/GYNs out there the percentage is quite small.

Also, to the women who get stimulated during a pelvic exam, they obviously have issues. It would be the same as a man getting stimulated during a prostate exam. I’m sure there are a couple people out there, but the VAST majority of people will certainly not be!!!

Also, human gentilia isn’t like something that is absolutely forbidden to be seen by the opposite gender. I guarantee you, as medical professionals, we DO NOT get any sexual joy from looking at people’s genitalia. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

You go ahead and believe what you want, but I’m telling you know, you are way over reacting to this. I’m trying to tell you from a medical professionals point of view that you are worrying over nothing.

And those stories that you read about on the internet??? Please, don’t believe everything you read. Don’t be sucked into the “if it’s on the internet, it must be true” idea of thinking. There have been several medical professionals, along with me, who chimed in on this and have said it’s just a job, not sexual in the least.
Thank you :clapping:!!!

I beg to differ. I strongly believe that it is immodest and sinful for any woman to submit to a male gyn exam, when it can be avoided. As I’ve stated before in this thread. I believe that scripture calls for all people to live as modest lives as possible. Your response is not surprising, as the male gyno industry is probably a billion dollar industry.

Marsha…No distance is too far in my book to protect one’s modesty. And as far as how many doctors ever crossed the line, there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of these type of accusations on the internet, and doctors who have been convicted. The OP has listed three of them in this thread. You can do your own research. A good place for you to start would be the “Patient Modesty” link previously provided. There are 12 volumes, which should take you some time to explore. *Oh, and it’s headed up by Dr. Maurice Bernstein, MD, (a creditable source) who is a medical professor at a college responsible for training upcoming doctors on the very issue of patient modesty and biophysics.

Your free to believe what you want. However its already been pointed out your scripture for backing these is wildly out of context.

Secondly by saying that “if it can be avoided” it means you think that its okay, if it can’t be avoided. So if it is truly immodest and sinful how is it all of a sudden okay if it can’t be avoided. Does that mean if the only female OB has pending patient neglect litigation you should still go to her over a male OB with an amazing track record. Remember these little exams are just the tip of the iceberg. You had any kids yet? Starting at about the 36th week of pregnancy they check you every single week, then when delivery comes forget your ideas about modesty. That’s the time where if your going to need a GOOD doctor as well. I’d rather not risk my life or my child’s life for your archaic, mislead idea of modesty.

Ignoring for the moment the fact that female physicians of any kind is a very recent innovation, what constitutes modesty?

For a Catholic, any garment that would preclude a woman from wearing a scapular is immodest. But I’m interested in what you consider to be immodest. I’m going to assume sleeveless tops are immodest, but are short sleeves okay? If not, would three quarter length sleeves be acceptable? Long sleeves only? Even when living in the southern states? Collars, are v-necks okay? Only circular collars coming up to the throat? Do they have to be high necked collars? Are slacks okay or only skirts? Can the skirt hem come to the knee? Mid-calf? Or must they come to the ankle. Does modesty impact hair length? Or should the hair be covered? Would a scarf be sufficient or would a veil be required? Or perhaps a bonnet that partially obscures the face? Perhaps the face should be covered accept for the eyes? That probably wouldn’t be sufficient because I have seen Islamic women with their faces covered, but their eyes were very sultry.

Who decides what is adequately modest? You? The Church? Or the women themselves?

I just wanna know how you’d get a female doctor 1000+ miles away to come deliver a baby in time and it NOT be a risk to your wifes life?

I know I’ve said this before, but I believe that I am now truly done with this thread trying to rationalize with some of you. When a woman becomes violated, you can’t take it back, and then there’s the life time of dealing with the emotions that follow. You’ll always wonder what you could have done differently, or wished that your wife or daughter had gone to see a female doctor. If yall want to take those chances, then that’s entirely up to you. I find it very interesting that some husbands find it seemingly ok for their wives to be intimately examined by a stranger (a male doctor), and don’t care about it.

LJN, I am a father of 3, and I understand the need for prenatal care, and have been around the block as far as dealing with all these type of issues. Yes, when a woman is ready to give birth, you can only be but so choosy. However, I would like to point out that typically women have 9 months to plan, and to try to make the birthing process as “perfect” as possible, for both themselves, and their spouses. It is up to couples to communicate clearly their desires that they want an all female staff. From what I know, most hospitals will try to accommodate this as much as possible.

Come on now, were not talking about clothing. We’re talking about nudity and exposing one’s private parts to a doctor.
