Obviously there are limits; most of us aren’t billionaires. But He didn’t command us to reject one poor person and give to another.

I’ll chose my own language, thank you very much. I’m not even going to add alleged in front of illegals, their guilt on the offense really isn’t in doubt.
I wasn’t addressing you.
Farm worker wages will increase only when farmers primarily use legal workers, including seasonal guest workers. That’s just how competition in the labor market works.
But those wages aren’t increasing, and those jobs aren’t filling up.
Be an adult and stop playing with strawmen dolls.
Be a Catholic and please stop being rude and angry. I’d love to continue this dialogue, but only if you remain civil.

If anything, the article that I linked neglected to mention the massive amounts that undocumented workers pay into social security without ever seeing it come back to them. The Truth About Undocumented Immigrants and Taxes - The Atlantic

Also, stop making me responsible for providing new floors in Mexico, that is the responsibility of your old Government. I’m willing to help them help Mexicans, but stop demanding that I supplant their role, that approach doesn’t fix anything. Candidly, I think people in mexico are more than capable of producing cheap tile or cement floors, if they want to replace dirt floors.
Speaking of strawmen, I never “demanded” that you provide flooring for people, although you’d be a wonderful Catholic if you did. If you read my post carefully, you’ll see that I was describing the squalid living conditions to demonstrate the severity of their poverty.

Thank you all the same for the suggestion to install flooring, though. I’ll be sure to run that by the people in Tijuana living in cardboard boxes . . .

There’s no such thing as “an illegal.” There are undocumented people, but nobody’s existence is illegal.
They are here illegally. Your post is just another way the progressives try to control the language.

We have legal citizens including veterans who are living on the streets.

They have to come first,
Don’t get me started.

And I’m not even a veteran.

In 2017 50 veterans died waiting for care from a VA hospital in Los Angeles.

Prior to that, about 100 more died waiting for care during a period during 2014 and 2015.

It’s not fair to say, out of one side of our mouths, “Sorry, Mr. (Ms.) Veteran, we don’t have the resources to help you,” and then say. out of the other side, “Welcome illegal immigrants! In this land of plenty, we always have plenty of resources to help you!”

It’s the international rule of law that dictates who’s responsible for which citizens.

The people from mexico aren’t legit refugees, except maybe a few ex reporters

Mexico is responsible for their poor. It’s during natural disaster etc, when we are obligated to step up, then we 100% are responsible for helping alleviate suffering.

You used dirt floors to justify giving them jobs is the US, show integrity in your argument and don’t deny it.

Maybe you should run the problem by your local church in Tijuana.
Have they asked for our donations?
Subsidiarity dictates they are responsible.

That’s not the same as “demanding” that you provide flooring for people. Jobs with wages enable them to provide their own flooring. See the difference?

Charity is noble but can’t begin to cover the scope of poverty in Mexico, let alone the U.S. Charity can’t replace the social safety net; it’s economically impossible.

It’s been the conservative administrations that consistently cut benefits to veterans AND clamp down on immigration. As Roman Catholics, we have obligations to both.

You seemed to be correcting the whole forum on proper word use, and you had done so to me in the past.
But those wages aren’t increasing, and those jobs aren’t filling up.
But they will, that’s how markets work. Feedbacks aren’t instantaneous. When the problem is real, farmers will start using the legal ag visa program with enthusiasm, which does benefit Mexican workers.

Being blunt about facts, calling out emotional manipulation and use of logical fallacies, those are not anti-Catholic things.

It doesn’t matter that they pay some taxes or SSI. They are a net drain on public expenditures.

As I pointed out, paying a citizen to do the work increases tax revenue (higher wage than illegal) and reduces welfare expenditures.

I don’t think you’ve answered my earlier question.
Why aren’t you putting your social justice skills to work with the people that can make a difference?
  • Have you contacted the Mexican Bishops?
  • do you post in forums frequented by Mexican Catholics?
  • Do you support political parties in Mexico that advocate for change?

You are actually being very rude. Bluntness and Christian kindness can co-exist.

I don’t believe that your arguments are strong, however.

Evidence, please. Try for primary-source data, not articles from anti-immigration reform sites.

Employers make the choice of what to pay citizens.

I did answers your question by patiently explaining that I’m not Mexican and can’t influence change within Mexico proper.

I’m doing what I can in the U.S. for comprehensive immigration reform. For example, the USCCB is encouraging Catholics to contact their elected officials. I look to them for guidance on how to live as a Catholic.

How are you advocating for change in a manner consistent with Catholic Social Teaching?

You might be surprised at the definition of “homeless”.

If you sell your house and your new house won’t close for 3 months so you rent a temp place, you are considered homeless.

If you decide to move in with your elderly parents you are now considered homeless.

Homeless does not mean living in a van down by the river or sleeping on the sidewalk. These numbers are padded by various interest groups.

Homeless in 2014 … during Obama, by the way.

Before Trump.
