The military has done some wonderful things. No one talks about all the humanitarian aid and assistance we offer worldwide.
Maybe if they did, people would have a better well balanced attitude toward the military.

Again…what about the dignity of the people needlessly suffering right here, who are completely entitled to the assistance and protection of their own government?
That’s fine to be concerned about your own. I never said that you must give away everything you need for the sake of someone Else’s good.

Well, where exactly are all of the extra resources coming from that you think should support people who have no legal right to be here?

That doesn’t excuse or ameliorate the problem in the least.
It doesn’t. But if i was an American, with that knowledge i can have a more balanced understanding of the issue which should help me make a better judgement in regards to what’s best for my country in relation to those who are already here and are making a positive contribution.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money to spend. Margaret Thatcher.

Here’s a few options that could be employed :
  • Sanction Mexico for encouraging illegal immigration and violent cartels
  • Target smugglers and cartels using drones and Special Forces
  • Deliver an Ultimatum demanding certain improvements otherwise there’ll be unspecified repercussions (Open Military Force)
Granted, this assumes that the US Government isn’t somehow complicit in this travesty…,
How is Mexico encouraging illegal immigration? Seems that people looking for a better life by immigrating has been around a long time and does not need any government to encourage it.

You can keep funding elaborate ways to fight a war on drugs but the results won’t change until we USA stop funding the cartels by buying the drugs. Where there is demand there is supply. Look up how many deaths Mexico has endured in this drug war. They don’t want the poison flowing through their country either.

Is threats, war and violence the answer now by Christians to complex problems? Then we are all in trouble. I would hope that we are still the salt of the earth.

If people looking to find a better life even if it means traversing miles of desert and borders troubles you so much… Why not demand stiff sentences for employers and farmers that use these people to lower their costs instead of punishing poor people?

Assuming that another country’s populace want to become citizens of your country is a reason why many people don’t like Americans.

Assuming that a Republican wants to add states that will upset the balance of power in Congress is also kinda assuming things that aren’t in evidence.

The new states will upset the Senate. The huge population would upset the House.

Well, either their country stops this foolishness or they should participate more fully with us. The only other options is to wall them off and I don’t see that as being very productive.

Jordan already solved this problem.
We’d need an appointed governor and legislature rather than an elected one for at least 3 generations.

Yes… And before you accuse me of American Imperialism, I would like to make it clear that I don’t despise Mexico or its people. No, I want everyone to succeed. However, there must be substantial changes and I see collaboration as the only solution moving forward.

May I ask how proposing military force against a neighbor, is not despising them?

No. I wasn’t thinking about imperialism, and personally I put a lot of weight in American exceptionalism.

The ideas that @JanSobieskilll and you are suggesting may solve practical issues, but they would be a change in American federalism. They are not the way that our constitutional government has worked up until this point.

Adopting the plan would change principles that have made America the country it is today.

Don’t you think that a country should approach us to become part of the United States instead of us telling them that they really don’t have any choice?

Sometimes it’s necessary to remove belligerent threats that harm both countries.

I wish this forum software had a dislike button.

Be careful, any objective review of Mexican history will lead a Catholic to one conclusion: Our Lady loves Mexico. She appeared there, fostered the conversion of all the natives, and despite centuries of anti-catholic government, education, and media, the common people have kept the faith. St John Paul II insisted it be his first trip after becoming pope, he compared it to Poland.
A country with definite problems, but I for one do not ever want to face Jesus and answer for poor treatment to one of His mother’s favorite people.

Based on the amount of their citizens leaving to come here, I believe we are being approached. The problem is their government. We should demand change on their part. Otherwise, I don’t see any solution. Someone has to change and I believe that the ball is in their court.

Is taking military action against murderous cartels wrong? They kill innocents within Mexico!
