I had one thought today. I wonder if the lockdown and subsequent high unemployment has contributed to the pool of people available to go and protest, riot or otherwise engage in activity apart from the normal routine, idle hands and all that.
Of course it did.
The covid-19 paranoia also helped the cause of looting by requiring people to wear masks.

There is also Anger Privilege. That means if I identify as a member of a group that has a historical grievance, then during “times of rage” I am excused for non violent criminal actions. This is only if there are others around me also “in rage”.

But if you do those actions and lack rage credentials, or if I do the same actions in the future when the incident is no longer on page one, then full punishment.

In a semi-facetious way, yes, I think you have a point.

I certainly condemn all the looting and burning. At the same time, I believe White privilege does exist, if it is defined properly. Do you agree?

If there is any such thing, tell me how much of my life and its success as a percentage is due to white privilege?

5%, 50%, 100%

And how much do I owe all those who dont have white privilege to be able to make them equal?

I haven’t been in the States for 5 years. I have no concept of the politics there, or how culpable the rioters are for their actions. So yes, it is a valid answer.
I’m a bit flabbergasted, the rioters should be fully culpable for their actions.

Didn’t say it wasn’t valid. Said it wasn’t a good answer. But alas some take the ignorance is bliss answer in front of evil and sin all the time. When I see sin, such as destroying innocent people’s property and attacking people on the street, I call it out as sin.

I know nothing of race relations in America. I don’t know if this was simply a long standing issue that finally boiled over into aggression or if this is recent and totally uncalled for. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support violence in any form, but it’s foolish in my opinion to disregard the history, if any, behind aggressive actions. There’s history behind the American Revolution, for example. The colonists didn’t up and decide to reject the government on a whim one day, IIRC.

Sorry, guess I should study the history of a culture that has had no bearing on my adolescent life at all. You should go study contemporary Korean issues as well, going by your logic.

I never said the riots were justifiable, I said, from where I’m sitting, there’s probably more nuance to them then what I know.

Edit: To restate what I am saying: I do not support violent protest. However, I can see, if race relations are really really bad in the USA, that the protestors may be frustrated to the point of violence.

I say that’s both a point against the protestors and likely a point against whatever they are protesting if they are frustrated to the point of violence.

Two wrongs do not make a right, but maybe the wrong of violent protest could have been prevented if the officer simply didn’t kneel on Mr. Floyd’s neck.

What I’m trying to say is based on the news I have read (from good sources too, like Reuters, which is internationally accredited), it seems like this isn’t a black and white issue.
Ah wait like black and white morally I mean haha.

Is there a point to the observation?
Yes. It makes peaceful protesters with real grievances look violent.

Isn’t there a verse about not repaying anyone evil for evil?
Intersectionality uses a different standard. What that is, well, it’s hard to tell. But the one thing we know is intersectionality rots brains.
Yeah, it’s totally okay that a cop killed George Floyd because Adam and Eve partook of the fruit
Is it “nice” to totally misrepresent someone else’s view and put words in their mouths?
Where on earth did commenter say anything like that?
There isn’t but "nice"atheist has been posting comments opposite of nice on CAF for a while now along with a bit of passive aggression here and there.
Black people, Natives, Hispanic can’t be racist.
You need a dictionary.
No, Herr Student. What do you think we’ve been going the past several days? Watching each other’s backs and forming neighborhood coalitions.
How mature of you to insinuate StudentMI is a Nazi simply because he disagrees with you.

The success or failure of one’s life is not due to White privilege or the lack of White privilege. As I was trying to explain, all the term means is that people of color are burdened with fears and concerns (some of which I enumerated) which Whites are not concerned with and which Whites may not even be aware of. The same kinds of privilege in our society apply to Christians, straight people, and men. But the success (or not) of anyone’s life is ultimately due to their own doing, not White privilege or its lack, although it may very well be a little harder to achieve with the extra burdens.

Rioting helps no one, neither the victims of the behavior nor the perpetrators. It certainly does not help promote social justice. It does, however, help the media, which thrives on sensationalism. And it may also help Trump get re-elected, despite his mishandling of the pandemic and heavy unemployment, just as it helped Nixon get elected in 1968, apart from the Vietnam War.

The world is watching & scratching its head wondering why we condemn other nations for protesting that turns violent, such as Hong Kong, France and many others.

The words of the American President & actions of the states security forces are not being seen as any different to China, Russia & others we have condemned. The USA is displaying authoritarian tendencies & rapidly increasing autocracy that kill, displace & oppress its own citizens.

The AMERICANS are seen around the world as the CHAMPIONS OF LIBERTY, FREEDOM & DEMOCRACY but this is quickly diminishing.

Trump is now in an underground bunker and a semi trailer truck has ploughed into protestors

Based on the outcome of the 1992 LA riots, that’s not entirely true. The police chief resigned, an inquiry into policing happened, a temporary truce among the largest gangs, and a change in how development occurs in urban areas. These we’re not complete or lasting solutions, but we can’t pretend that riots don’t affect change.

History has proven:
When Governments don’t listen to peaceful protest then violent protest becomes inevitable

Also they are advising Trump in his bunker to stay off twitter instead of continuing his twitter tweet volley atm, and some want him to address the nation with calming words. The protests and goings on at the White House have ‘rattled’ Trump.

I believe he should address the nation and talk to the protestors.

I understand what your saying. What your initial response seemed like you were saying is that you weren’t going to pronounce judgement on the violence because you were ignorant of the history. My only point was that ignorance was no justification for failing to call an evil an evil. But, you have said that you believe the violence is wrong. And that we agree on.

How can any President NOT address the nation at a time like this? However, if Trump does speak, he needs to be careful to show some sympathy with the protesters and particularly toward the death of George Floyd. Then he might show his toughness in fighting the criminals who are looting.
