Ah yes, the left made a cop kneel on a man’s neck for eight minutes
I have no idea why the cop kneeled on his neck for so long. It appears to be completely wrong and I cannot imagine what occurred earlier that could ever justify it. This has nothing to do with my statement however. Maybe you could stick to the conversation about riots.

No, they are not justified. Anyone who thinks they are justified are wrong. Companies need to pull out of these areas. Let these people so willing to riot and pillage start their own businesses. Subsidiarity at it finest.

Wow, I’m just wrong. Your sparkling wit and completely pointed deconstruction of all my previous points floors me. I’ll never recover from being so abjectly wrong.

What will the rioting achieve?

Professing to liberal beliefs isn’t any guarantor against racism, although I’ve so far appreciated how the mayor has responded.
Don’t let a liberal catch you saying that! 😁

I agree with you that liberals can be prejudiced against certain groups of people. My 34-year old daughter has liberal friends who are horribly biased against “country folk,” and my husband has also seen this in one of his friends who is a college professor. Once when they were driving together to an event, and drove through a small town (pop. under 2000), the professor commented, “What do these people DO with their lives?” in a very snotty way–my husband was appalled at her ignorance about people not like herself.

But I think most liberals rightfully pride themselves on being sensitive and caring when it comes to different races, and I can’t see how they would be welcome in a circle of liberal friends and acquaintances if they let it slip out that they are prejudiced against someone who is not the same color as they are.

It’s called scapegoating. Poor whites and rednecks are the scapegoats for America’s racial problems which if anything are more manifest in cities like San Francisco that taxes their black citizens out of the city to raise property taxes.

I do not know what bothers me the worst on this thread, and the others on the topic - the extent to which it has departed for basic morality, or the extent it has departed from reason.

It’s frustrating. My grandfather, who was a farmer, spoke 5 languages. My brother, who farms the family farm (actually rents it out now because he’s too busy), owns over 40 properties (rental units, not slummy!). Many farmers have advanced college degrees, and have travelled extensively around the world to learn more about farming techniques of other lands.

Nothing, it’s a symptom of a disease. A consequence of frustrated people.
It’s not good, I don’t want it but I’m not going to judge it.

Just because one fact is true doesn’t mean another isn’t.

Which part of what I said isn’t a fact? That San Francisco raised taxes in black communities to get them to leave? That’s a fact. So is the scapegoating of poor whites.

Race baiting and gentrification doesn’t mean white people, people of privilege are not racist.
No one claimed the left is flawless. You don’t need to sling mud to disprove a point. It’s erroneous and argues in bad faith.

More importantly ad hominem.

Racism, along with some other prejudices, has become such a taboo thing to be associated with that more sanctimonious members of the Left have gotten better at hiding it.

I’m a cop. This is the question we’re all asking, and I have yet to see one officer even attempt to defend any of them. This was an unnecessary use of force on the part of Chauvin and a complete lack of responsibility on the part of the other officers. That said, I don’t understand why everyone is painting all officers as racist abusers of power. The number of officers involved in incidents of this type is barely a fraction of a percent of all officers in the country, yet it’s somehow ok to judge all by the actions of a few, when this is the type of thing that is decried by those who protest. We all think this is disgusting, and this does not represent us. Which is why it’s even worse to see some people out there defending the murder of the FPS officer in Oakland, as if he somehow deserved this simply for showing up to work. I’m not directing this at you personally by the way, I just tied my rant into my response to your post.

San Francisco is famously left. Don’t pretend by pointing out the racial issues in what amounts to the liberal capital of America isn’t slinging mud.

You inferred quite clearly because those sit across the table from you did a bad therefore we can’t take accusations of racism seriously.

No, that’s mind reading on your part based on what I wrote. I was responding to an instance of bashing white rural citizens.

I think what’s making lay citizens nervous is the pattern of these incidents and how they end up being handled. I don’t think that police brutality is anything new; it just gets more exposure now, a positive side of our high-tech age.

But the “bad apple” argument makes me nervous because despite all of the officers who do their job with integrity, there’s a systemic problem in how these bad cases are being handled. Authorities in Minneapolis have done a much better job at responding than I’ve seen with similar cases. But that too many offending officers get off easy doesn’t bode well for public trust in the system.

Are you Catholic by chance? I’m curious what kind of positive role Catholic, (or any Christian), officers can play in combating unwarranted, officer-involved violence.

Thank you, that admission will go hopefully a long way repairing relations. I hope your contribution both too the community and this thread is as enlightening.

If you have 4 bad police out of say 50 and 46 say nothing we have 50 bad cops.
That said I thank you for speaking up.

Nice try, saying racism existing isn’t an attack on white people. The fact you think there is only illustrates why this problem is so hard to deal with and why it’s gotten so bad.

Pointing out there is a problem is not an attack to your personhood. Making it one only muddies the water.

We have a racist culture and police acting with impunity. How do we fix it?
If you feel attacked then toughen up. We got problems too solve.

This is an excellent point and great question.

Let’s just call it a tie. 🙁
