Which is why emotion can never be an arbiter for true faith! Regarding the real meaning of charity:
Real love involves real hatred: whoever has lost the power of moral indignation and the urge to drive the buyers and sellers from the temples has also lost a living, fervent love of Truth.

Charity is wanting the ultimate good for our brother, which is their salvation. Instead, the defenders of the faith are often demonized for lack of tolerance or love for the sinner. We cannot know anothers mind or heart, and we do not judge, but we have a serious duty to protect that most precious thing God has given to us - the truth of our faith.

Yes, you are very correct… But I would suggest that Charity would also allow us to present the truths of the faith in a unambigious, positive light, while at the same time not trying to demonize the sinner. I think the best model to use, is that of Christ’s.

Could you give me an example of a post you feel expressed a holier than thou attitude? It has been my experience when people start claiming others have a holier than thou attitude is because others have merely stated a church teaching that they are uncomfortable with.

ABC is two married persons wishing to avoid having another child which is not unlike two married persons using NFP to avoid having another child. These two married persons are not hurting another person.

I am not using ABC per se; I am just stating what many many people feel and don’t share on CAF due to the strong opposition.

And contraception sincerely hurts the couple practicing it. Not only is immoral but people who dismiss the sinfulness of contraception generally end up dismissing all sorts of church teachings as outdated and not “practical” in today’s day and age.

The language Jesus used in confronting the religious leaders of his day is quite different from the language he used when preaching to the people. We should be careful not to mix the two…

Completely different situations. How one confronts a corrupt self righteous abusive leader is quite different from how one confronts a lost sheep. Or do you not see a difference?

Sure, but some of the sheep aren’t lost, they are corrupt, self-righteous and abusive.

The trouble is that the majority of the lost sheep dealt with in what we would deem a “kind” manner repented. Jesus was, in fact, very matter of fact with people.

For example,

Or, for that matter look at how St Paul dealt with foolishness:

Pussyfooting around something doesn’t serve the other person at all.

This is not an advocacy for being mean, but sometimes plain, candid, forthright, frank speech is called for.

And now you err in your attempt to judge mind and heart, there is only one that can do this. We can only preach the truth ignorant of what the disposition of mind, soul and heart is.
