Rence –

Do you realize the logical conclusion of your beliefs?

If I believe birth control isn’t a sin, then it’s not, no matter what the Church teaches.

If I believe desecration of the Eucharist isn’t a sin, then it’s not, no matter what the Church teaches.

If I believe adultery isn’t a sin, then it’s not, no matter what the Church teaches.

If I believe abortion isn’t a sin, then it is not, no matter what the Church teaches.

If I believe pedophilia isn’t a sin, then it’s not, no matter what the Church teaches.

If I believe [any sin] isn’t a sin, then it’s not, no matter what the Church teaches.

Et cetera.

Do you really believe all of the above is true?

I think it is more likely that many Catholics understand what the Church teaches and simply disagree. Not all disobedience is from obstinence or ignorance or weakness - sometime it is a good faith disagreement.
Totally agree with you. Which is why I will be using some form of artificial birth control after this pregnancy is completed. 🤷
I’m so sorry. I hope you realize that such an action will place you in a state of sin, and it will place you in mortal sin if you know that it is wrong and do it anyway. Do you think it is wise to place yourself in a state of mortal sin?

Before you make that decision, I encourage you to read the following:

Contraception: Why Not? by Dr. Janet Smith
She knows what the Church teaches, but disagrees, and is freely going to use contraceptives anyway. 😦

I am posting because I think a lot of Catholics are not being honest when they say they openly flout Church teaching on contraception. All of the Catholic women here at work have had sterilizations and I am sure went right to confession and now in their minds all is right in the world.

I am pregnant because I tried NFP. A child is a blessing but I certainly do not want another one any time soon. It’s a fact that I cannot afford.

The Church gives you a thumbs up for having a large family but there is no support outside of that whether from day care, to cheaper schools or anything (no offense but Protestants do a much better job helping families).

I don’t WANT to flout Church teaching but I gave NFP a go. I’m sure lots of Catholics out there are not HAPPY about making this choice but there is no help out there for them when they do.

I just want to say that many out there are at different places on their spiritual path. I am just frankly not strong enough physically or emotionally to put my trust in the Lord when it comes to openess to life. I am so stressed as it is by this pregnancy. I am really happy when other people have that kind of faith. I do not doubt it exists. I just don’t have it.
I can tell you that doing something that goes against Church teaching is not going to help you grow in your relationship with the Lord. It’s not easy to trust! We all struggle.

Protestants help more with families, by teaching to limit the number of kids you have:o When I got married my pastor instructed us to use birth control until we felt ready to start our family…that’s not a good thing.

I KNOW what the Church teaches and I do believe it’s right. I am not saying the Church is wrong. I JUST CAN’T DO IT. I don’t have the faith for that. I don’t. I did and now I don’t. Maybe that will change.

You are in my prayers. Having two children myself I know exactly how stressful this is for you and all I can ask is that prayerfully reconsider after your child has arrived and you can look at this from the standpoint of what our church teaches.

I apologize if I seemed to harsh. I really do have a lot of empathy for your fears-I’ve been there myself.

I KNOW what the Church teaches and I do believe it’s right. I am not saying the Church is wrong. I JUST CAN’T DO IT. I don’t have the faith for that. I don’t. I did and now I don’t. Maybe that will change.
Either way it’s a mortal sin. 🤷

Don’t do it.

I will pray for you! I have my own faith struggles…NFP isn’t one of them, but I have some just like most people.
When is your sweet baby due? Congratulations, by the way!!

Women contracepting are not easily going to listen to someone who will basically turn their lives upside down. They think they’re right. They think they have the truth. Just like you think/believe/know you have the truth. It’s odd to me why someone would think or believe in the truths they hold dear but would not think another person would hold their own truths, values and beliefs as dear as well.
And this, my dear friend, is the essence of moral relativism which has been condemned, not only by the Catholic Church, but also by many non-Catholic Christian leaders! Please do not equate me with them as I have no trouble believing in an objective truth. More’s the pity and prayers needed for those who will accept only what their own reason and opinions deign true, by disregarding an omnipotent God and His Divine Law.

Why would you even get married if you weren’t open to children?
I wanted to get married because I wanted to have children at some point. But, things happen. I just lost my mum, my father is sick, trying to help my brother in medical school, have a ton of student debt and so on and so on.

Why should I explain myself? I have my reasons for not having a child now? Now, the child will probably suffer because I neither have the resources nor attention to give to him right now.

You cannot honestly believe that things are so black and white as that if I don’t want a child right NOW, that I don’t EVER want a child.

I also have health problems that put me in a high-risk pregnancy.

But, to some of you all on this board none of that matters because I tried NFP, God gave me a child and all is right in the world. No, it is not all right and I do not know what I would do with myself if I get pregnant again anytime soon.

None of those excuses justify mortal sin.

Don’t do it.

Thank you for praying for me. In time I may get the spiritual strength to try NFP again.

My baby is due in September and it’s a boy! It’s our first!

Correction: you are pregnant because you used NFP incorrectly.

What method were you using? Did you follow all of the rules, precisely? Were you careful to take all your temps and observe all of your signs accurately? If not, then it’s not surprising that it “didn’t work.” It’s no different then forgetting to take a pill or putting the condom on wrong. All birth control has a user failure rate.
The Church gives you a thumbs up for having a large family but there is no support outside of that whether from day care, to cheaper schools or anything (no offense but Protestants do a much better job helping families).
Have you asked your local parish for help? What did they say? Have you made any changes in your lives that might make your budget easier to live within?
I don’t WANT to flout Church teaching but I gave NFP a go. I’m sure lots of Catholics out there are not HAPPY about making this choice but there is no help out there for them when they do.
NFP works if you use it right. The one unexpected pregnancy I had while using NFP happened because I was charting sloppily and lazily. It wasn’t the method’s fault, it was mine.

Have you been to a pregnancy resource center for assistance? Have you applied for welfare, WIC, foodstamps, TANF?

You do have it, but you need to put that in action and not give up when it’s too hard.

I’m expecting baby #4 and things are tight financially too. But we put our trust in God and His Church and neither have failed us.

Edit - I forgot to say, I am praying for you as well. I really encourage you to learn a new NFP method during your pregnancy so you can use it after your pregnancy to greater effect, and to check out the sources of assistance (including your parish!) I mentioned above.

God bless you for your honesty! Despite what others say, there is no condemnation for you on this thread, but we will all pray that light and love and trust in the Lord will bring you into a new place!

I am glad that you do not have any spritual issues that cause you any difficulty but I do have my own struggles as I am sure many Catholics out there do. Let us pray for each other.

You can call your student loan reps and get your payments deferred due to economic hardship.
Why should I explain myself? I have my reasons for not having a child now? Now, the child will probably suffer because I neither have the resources nor attention to give to him right now.
You’d be surprised at what you can do when you have to do it. It seems hard and overwhelming right now but I promise you – when that little baby is in your arms, you will do whatever he needs you to do.
But, to some of you all on this board none of that matters because I tried NFP, God gave me a child and all is right in the world. No, it is not all right and I do not know what I would do with myself if I get pregnant again anytime soon.
Rather than resorting to mortal sin, perhaps you should learn a different method of NFP that is easier for you to use. Or, perhaps, if your situation is that dire you should abstain completely.
