Blessings on these Bishops for speaking out and correcting VP Biden, who plainly stated as a fact something untrue about the HHS mandate. I hope every Catholic is paying attention to these Bishops.
IMO it’s bad enough when politicians distort the truth…BUT Mr Biden was deliberately targeting Catholics.:mad:

Yes. I actually think it was the perfect response. You have to think about the general population that is listening. The quickest and most effective way to call him on his lie was to point out the lawsuits. If he had given a more lengthly, detailed response, he would have lost a lot of the audience in wonkiness.
I think that was one of the times that the “neutral” moderator cut him off in mid-sentence.

Hopefully Romney can point this out sometime during the second presidential debate. It would be interesting to see what Obama would come back with. Would he admit his partner lied flat out about the issue, or would he say something else… I think the next two debates are going to determine the winner of the election… and the future of religious freedom in the states…

I’m hoping for a Romney slam dunk. Put this country out of its misery under the Obama administration and back onto a path of prosperity.

Do you think that the Bishops today are showing more courage than in the past?
If by “in the past”, you are referring to the past fifty years, then yes. There is much more they can and should do, but they have to start somewhere. I’m just glad they appear to be starting. One thing will lead to another until it gains momentum.

Getting back to the thread. Are Catholics who refuse to listen to their Bishops truly Catholic? How can people like Sebelius or Biden call themselves true members of the Church of St. Peter? Reasonable dissent is one thing. To ignore sound Catholic principles espoused by our Bishops is absolutely 100% wrong. Biden’s actions are a disgrace to his supposed Catholic faith.
There are some Catholics that believe the same thing that Biden does. Some are in our parishes. I had a personal confrontation with one not more than 3 weeks ago. They give you all kinds of concocted reasons for siding with the Democrats. …“abortion shouldn’t have anything to do with government or the law.” “It’s a personal choice, not for anyone else to decide”. etc, etc. Some of these “Catholics” it seems to me, just want the subject to go away. ** Surprisingly, these same “Catholics” go to Mass daily, are involved in the Parish** and so on. This same person told me that I am overly simplifying the matter. I said that the truth of Jesus isn’t all that complicated. IT IS SIMPLE! Jesus gave us easy to understand truths, not complicated equations to figure out: “Thou shall not kill”. Simple. We put people in jail for killing anyone else but a baby in the womb. We have rules and laws for everyone else BUT FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MOST VULNERABLE!!

I really cannot figure out how some of these people think. I would imagine they are trying to reason their way out of not having to vote for anyone other than a Democrat, but…🤷
All I do know is that it is a sad state of affairs our Church finds itself in these days.😦 And I just wish that more of our Priests and Bishops would start to preach the truth from the pulpit, no matter how many people they fear of loosing.

We can pray and fast for them so that they will. All it takes is for one priest or bishop to begin. It will give courage to other priests and bishops to follow suit.

Our priest speaks up loudly for Church values and the pending election. He tells people if they don’t like it, they should probably leave and find a church more suitable to their beliefs :amen:

WOW you are truly blessed. Our former priest would speak out but tepidly. He did read the USCCB letter when the HHS Mandate was being confronted earlier this year and published it in the bulletin.

But like a lot of Priests, he was far more outspoken about “Social Justice” issues. Our parish gave out squggly lightbulbs and ‘green’ bags for groceries instead of focusing on the very active abortion providers in this state. They have deep roots and a lot of money.

The Church teaches the truth, but it does not dictate to us how to put it into practice. If some believers choose to accept Romney’s various representations of his abortion stance, why can’t others choose to believe that Obama/Biden will be better for the unborn babe’s survival? Both groups have an equal right to remain right where they belong: in the heart of the Church. Ultimately, that is what matters - not pie in the sky rhetoric - but the answer to: do I have what it takes to birth and raise a child?

Because the Church has made it crystal clear you can not vote for unrestricted abortion on demand.

The question of who is “better for the unborn babe’s survival” is a prudential question about which the Church is properly silent. Abortion is a moral problem which the Church properly condemns and the truth is that we are free to choose regarding the former but not with regard to the latter.

According to the Church the issue of abortion is more significant than the (primarily) economic problems involved in raising children. Having “what it takes to raise a child” may be what matters most to you but you surely cannot believe it is what matters most to the Church.

Our priest does not tell us to vote for a particular candidate. He reminds us of the issues and says we must vote according to our faith.

Your statement about Obama/Biden being better for the unborn babe’s survival is one of the most ludicrous statements or positions I’ve seen on this forum. Their support of Planned Parenthood, abortion at almost any stage of pregnancy, and the HHS mandate requiring Church organizations to pay for abortion belie your argument completely.

My argument in strictly based on the lives of babies: are more of them being lost or saved because Obama/Biden is in office? Will more get to blow out their birthday candles if Romney is elected?

That is, in the final analysis, what being pro-life is really all about - innocent kids getting to LIVE. Making this about people who are already born and rooting for their OWN interests, is what I find ludicrous! 🤷

What is takes to raise a child is much more than simple economics. I was simply making the point that regardless of what I or you, the president, or the Church holds to be true, in the final analysis what matters to that baby in the womb is how his/her parent/parents answers that question. That’s a simple fact of life whether or not abortion remains legal.

Why isn’t the same amount of criticism hurled at the pro-status-quo party which treats feti conceived of rape and incest as non-human and mothers given the okay to abort them?

I’ve said this before, but if Biden with his foreign and social policies were today to switch parties, many posters on this forum would probably be the happiest people on earth.

I would never support Joe Biden. He is as Catholic as Sebelius.
