With regard to John 15…this person was not fruitful. From the parable of the sower, we can see that this person was not born again…the seed did not penetrate and produce fruit.
Luke 8:11-15 NAS95 11 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God…14 "The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and
bring no fruit to maturity(John 15 - did not bear fruit). 15
"But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.
Those who are born of God
will love others, hate sin, confess and believe on Christ, keep the commandments, love the brethren, walk in the Spirit, etc. This is all taught in scripture…
1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. {is born: or, has been born}
1Jo 4:7 ¶ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. {is born: Gr. has been born}
1Jo 5:1 ¶ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. {is born: Gr. has been born}
1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1Jo 5:18 ¶ We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
John 14:12 KJV 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me,
the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Therefore, the person in John 15 did not lose their salvation. They did not receive the gospel into good ground, or submissive repentant heart. Therefore were not saved. We must trust Christ as Lord before receiving Him as Savior.
With regard to 1 John 5:4…this is very clear that if someone is born of God, they will overcome to the end - this is a very clear statement. In 2Peter 2:20-22 - those people were “overcome” by the world.
With regard to Hebrews 3:14…look at this again:
Hebrews 3:14 NAS95 14 For we **have become **partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,
You are reading the sentence wrong…we have become if we persevere…or, We will persevere IF we have become. It dos not say we will become if - it says we have become, if…therefore it is presenting perseverance as evidence of rebirth and not a condition.
In John 13:10 - Jesus pronounces them completely clean. But, they need foot washings regularly to keep fellowship - yet they are clean every whit…
John 13:10 KJV 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet,
but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
Here are a couple of “they were never saved to begin with verses”:
1 John 2:19 KJV 19 They went out from us,
but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 KJV 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,
unless ye have believed in vain.
In Hebews 6, it says that they were enlightened…they had not received the Spirit but were illuminated by the ministry of the Spirit. Later in that passage it says this…
Hebrews 6:8-9 KJV 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. 9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you,
and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
They did not bear fruit but briers and thorns - did not receive the Word into good ground. He was persuaded that he would see those things **that accompany salvation ** from others which are those things above, the fruits of the spirit, a hatred for sin, a love for God’s people, etc.
Also, after the warnings in Hebrews 10, he says this…
Hebrews 10:38-39 KJV 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
That is all I have for now. God Bless.
