My examples are from 10 years ago. And now, things have increased. For example:
- 63% of households have computers with internet access (source)
- 99% of households have at least one television source
- 56% of households pay for cable television source
- 70% of households have cell phones source
- 90+% of households have at least one car, and about 58% have at least 2 cars source

Now, given these , are you really suggesting that the nearly 50% that pay no income tax cannot afford to pay any income tax at all? Even the top 10% of that group? Really? Do you think those with cell phones, multiple cars, cable television, internet access, etc, cannot afford a couple of hundred dollars per year in taxes?
Cell phones are a necessity now? You do know that you can get a land line for significantly less than a cell phone, even pre-paid plans? Qwest, where I live, offers basic phone service for only $12/mo.Oh come on! You know what those poor people use their cell phones for don’t you?
Nice. Not stated. Not even implied. When I was in college, I didn’t have cable or long distance. I scraped by paying my tuition, books, rent, food, and utilities, and didn’t have anything left for cable or long distance calls. I was fortunate that my father sent me pre-paid long distance cards for me to use to call home. But all we had was basic local-only service. If I did it, so can others.Do you really think they have any business watching TV when they could be out “picking themselves up by their bootstraps.” You know, working “by the sweat of their brow.”
If they are so poor that they need government assistance, they shouldn’t be spending their money on cable television. After all, Uncle Sam dumped billions of dollars into a coupon program for people to allow their analog televisions to receive over the air digital broadcasts for free. Why do they need cable or satellite television?

Social Security, Medicare, and FOod Stamps are supposed to be social SAFETY NETS, not something you plan a retirement on. A safety net is just that, something that prevents you from being squished to a pancake in an emergency. After it catches you from certain death, you’re not supposed to stay on the thing and act like its a trampoline.

Ya, but I am working on bumping the numbers up. As soon as Catholic begin to understand that charity and taking care of their neighbors is a personal, private, individual responsibility that cannot be turned over to the state, they come into the fold. The rest will continue to render unto Caesar that which rightfully belongs to God.

What is being qualified as “poor” in the United States is an insult to truely poor people in the rest of the world. Most “poor people” in the US live better than working class stiffs in Europe.

The whole “Christ encouraged us to pay taxes” is a complete misinterpretation of the “Render unto Caesar” passage of Scripture. Christ was not advocating paying taxes, it was a warning about who your loyalty belongs to.

Oh, please, do you not have Google on your computer or do you think other people don’t?
Just curious, how were Republicans holding anything hostage when they were in the minority in both houses of congress and couldn’t even mount enough votes for a filibuster in the Senate? The Obama Tax cuts were passed in December 2008. There was absolutely nothing that the Republicans could have done to force or stop passage of those bills then.
The very same tax loopholes Obama is crying about now are the ones voted for and passed by the democrats and signed by him.

If you lose your SSI benefits you should thank Obama for it.
SSI is currently cash flowing its benefits from the amounts collected from payroll deductions. The only way it won’t meet its monthly obligation is if the Treasury Department under Timothy Geithner diverts money from the Trust Fund to other government activities (green jobs, Libya, General Motors) instead of using the money for what it is specifically being raised for. And there is no way Timmy is going to do this without Obama’s specific orders to do so.

Hi, I’m a Christian liberal. Although I have fought to remove prayer from schools and stand strongly for a complete separation of Christianity and state, I also justify my support for big government and pro abortion politicians using Christianity. I believe we should ask ourselves, What would Jesus do if he were a politician today? Well, as long as he was pro choice, big government, and didn’t pray he would have my vote.
