sorry, but i don’t think trying to help is bad. i don’t use it for bad purposes and i have powers that were given to me BY GOD so why can’t i use them. i have alot of power and i’m very in touch with spirits. That’s a God-given gift and i’m sure i have it for a purpose.

Megzy, how can you be sure you have anymore powers than anyone else in this area? The devil can trick someone pretty easily.

Megzy,

“Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Psalms 111: 10 and “Fools die for want of wisdom.” Proverbs 10: 21

You asked a question, presumably, seeking truth and direction. It seems to me that many have warned you here and in at least one other thread. The spirit world is, of course, real and even the Archangel Michael didn’t rest on his own power (Jude 1:9). When you operate in disobedience to God’s Law, you willing enter the lair of the Enemy who is the Father of Lies. You also lead others into sin and danger regardless of your intentions. The Enemy doesn’t respect your intentions, rather, he laughs and uses them against you.

God counts obedience sweeter than sacrifice.

Ouija boards bring on possession and trouble.

Megzy,

I am a former practicing espiritista (one who communicates with and helps spirits). I used both the Ouija Board and channelling What I learned was that much of it is your own subconscious mind deceiving you. The rest is the evil one deceiving you. Stay away from it. You are not really helping anybody but the devil.

I still wake up at night with nightmares of being under the devil’s power. Others I know who were also involved with this “religion” have had similar experiences.

Place yourself under the protection of our Mother the Virgin Mary and stop using the Ouija board. You are being deceived when you use it.

MariaG:
I have always considered that God gave me an ability of discernment. I tend to sense places where evil has been done or evil people.

For Example. Whenever I drove by this one spot, I just hated it. It felt wrong. When I shared this with my friends, they told me that about a year before I moved to town, police found what appeared to be skinned cats that had been used in some sort of Satanic ritual, in the spot I had always hated.

Is this clarivoyance? Is this something I need to denounce? Or is this different?

Is Megan’s gift not a gift? Even though she does not consult for future knowledge?

Your sister in Christ,
Maria
Maria,

There is a side of the human nature that can receive direction, warnings, guidance from the Holy Spirit, our guardian angel, our patron saints and the voice of conscience speaking to our souls. This leads us to God, to obedience of His way for our life and away from trouble, foolishness, evil and self-aggrandizement.

There is also a gift of the Holy Spirit known as the “gift of discernment” and a gift, associated with it perhaps, the “gift of discernment of spirits.” These can be authentic gifts from God when cultivated in an attitude of humility, obedience to rightful authority, willingness to take spiritual direction and they grow in a sacramental life of prayer, good works and service and obedience to the Law of God and His Church.

There are also counterfeit gifts. They can masquerade as gifts of the spirit and so need to be* discerned*. Look for pride, control, disobedience to rightful authority, self-seeking, self-aggrandizement, profiteering, unwillness to take direction from the Church, its ministers, or its magisterium. There are also familial spirits which if I remember correctly can be attached to a family line especially when things such a witchcraft, clairvoyance and the like have been pursued in the past. These need to be denounced, confessed and usually a prayer of deliverance is in order.

There is an episode reported in the Acts of the Apostles of a girl who has a clairvoyant spirit who profitted her masters by fortuntelling. She began to follow Paul and be disruptive. Paul tolerates her actions for a number of days until annoyed by her calling out, “testifying,” to Paul and those with him, he finally commands, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ I command you, come out of her!’ Then and there the spirit left her." Acts: 16: 16-18."

I’m actually quite sure of myself and i know how to use it right. I’m very experienced. I don’t think God will hate me for using the power he gave me.

If the gift that you speak of is genuine( I don’t say it this way sarcastically,or in any other way that would be considered mean)
There are better ways to promote and develop this gift of the Holy Ghost.

For instance, Novenas are not just an excersise of prayer; they are also a beneficial and safe way, in God’s Grace, as a spiritual discipline, to develop strength of character, faith and will, and, in unison with other spiritual and physical disciplines (the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius come to mind), under the care of a qualified spiritual director, a safer means to contact or be visited by, souls in need of spiritual help.
Remember, with any gift of power comes responsibilty. In the Christian tradition, for any power bestowed to an individual, it is usually taken as granted that the individual shall be held responsible for the actions and the results of their choices to use that power, or powers. A good person must always strive to use their own power (and the authority that they derive from that power) efficiently and benignly. What better examples are there in the wide world, present and past, than that which can be found in the examples of the Saints, with similar gifts of the Holy Ghost to what you seem to describe.
I offer the example of my mother’s mother, my grandmother, of whom it was known among the faithful in her parish that, through her devotion, faith, and development through spiritual exercises, was visited frequently by spirits, souls in Purgatory particularly, (who need all of our help in their journey of redemption and healing , that they might end their suffering, and frequently visit the living to petition them for help). She was strong in “psychic gifts”, as they’re called nowadays, and always strived to benefit humanity, living and departed, in safe, orthodox ways. She didn’t need to resort to such things as Ouija boards; she had both a constant prayer life, and an informed, orthodox catholic priest as her spiritual advisor, as well as a spiritual director and moral theologian available from the Diocese ( they are available to all parishioners of any Diocese, anywhere.) her gifts were such, I mean to say, that under the benefits I have mentioned, she needed no such things as physical props. Niether( in my opinion) do you!
You do not need these primitive, awkward props. The Roman Catholic Church has much better tools, ready to your use.In my opinion, if you really want to develop what seem to be excellent and rare gifts from God, then you should not waste your time with unreliable, “single-shot guns”, and instead avail yourself of the opportunity to learn to use the,“rapid-fire automatic Artillery”, (training offered for free,no money down, no fees included and no interest) from the 2,000 -year-experienced - Arsenal of the Catholic Church. These weapons have been Saint Tested; are “Generationally reliable!”, and are of low maintenance requirement. No purchase necessary, no assembly required. Inquiries are alway welcome, estimates are free of charge…

( Pease, do not use the Ouija board anymore. I ask this, knowing you may think this insulting to your intelligence, but even so, I ask it. Give better, more reliable ways and means for your gifts a try…or at least ,consider seriously what I have tried to promote with my (admittedly) dumb humour. I really do not trust those kinds of means, and in my experience, they have hurt people. Using a Ouja board is like entering a bicycle in the annual Harley Davidson Dirtbike Race at Sturgis - a humourous novelty, but otherwise, dangerous. )

NIL SINE LABORE,
Love and best regards,
Prester John

Souls don’t ‘hang out’ for a while. When you die, you go to Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell.
Bingo, Mike! You got it. The only beings that “hang around” on earth and respond to ouija boards are demons.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Grace to you,

Draw near to Jesus. Fools rush in where angels fear to trod. If confession bothers you so much maybe you need an exorcist. Holy water agitates demons and accelerates spiritual warfare that follows.Leave it to the experts to deal with demons. My mother 's favorite: Act in haste repent in leisure. Seek God, remember the battle is His. We cannot deal with Dominions, Powers and Thrones.Without God we can do nothing except the wrong action. Why focus on evil? How many red lights can you go through until you crash?

Evil spirits disguise themselves as good spirits and as our beloved departed.

**2 Corinthians 11:14 **14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Some even take the form of Bible personalities appearing in visions and dreams.

**1 John 4:1-3 **KJV 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that *spirit *of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

They are deceiving you.

You can objectively see the truth of what i say:

Ask them to confess Jesus Christ of Nazareth is their LORD or that the Word of God became flesh.

God won’t allow them to do this, it is His “way out” for your soul, and obedience to His Word will result in YOUR salvation.

**Deuteronomy 13:3-4 **3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Do this wherever you see these spirits, in dreams visions.

Even if they are only a voice in your “ear.”

Their evil nature will be reveal to you as they cannot confess Jesus came in the flesh or that He is their LORD:

**1 Corinthians 12:3 **Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and *that *no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

The passage says no man under the influence of an evil spirit can say “Jesus Christ is LORD” because the spirit speaking through the “prophet” cannot say it.

Let your eyes be open to the fact Paul says this in a context discussing genuine gifts of the Holy Spirit.

In a context where Paul reminds them their former communion with familiar spirits had once carried them off as in a deluge into idolatry.

Evil spirits pretend they are from God, that is why they are called “antichrist spirit” they “taking the guise of Christ, oppose Christ” substituting their truth for the Word of God.

Paul warned the Corinthians, “don’t be fooled again.”

**Isaiah 8:20 **0 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, *it is *because *there is *no light in them.

**Jeremiah 23:28-29 **28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What *is *the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD. 29 *Is *not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer *that *breaketh the rock in pieces?

‘The only beings that “hang around” on earth and respond to ouija boards are demons.’

there are more things in heaven and earth, dear horatio, than are dreampt of in your philosophy.

there is alot of reason to believe, and the church doesn’t teach otherwise, that human spirits MIGHT ‘hang around a bit’ after they die, whether to give messages to those of us still living (the mount of transfiguration is one glaring and obvious example) or because they have ‘unfinished business’.

see peter kreeft’s ‘everything i ever wanted to know about heaven’ for more details.

of course, it’s dangerous to interact with a spirit, as you never know what they’ll do, or if they’re demonic, or what’s going on. and ouija boards, divination, etc. are very bad ways of getting involved in this phenomena. they open us up to be ‘messed with’, if you will. and we are never in control, despite the feeling that we are often given in such circumstances.

I was at a party last week, and the host had a ouija board. Some of us who are sceptical of it’s powers decided to try it. We didn’t notice anything happen (except for when a girl tied a hair around one of the legs so she could (name removed by moderator)erceptiably pull it). But afterwards one of my friends who had been in the room said that he had been fasinated with the boar, but had gotten a gut feeling that there was something wrong. I’m looking for advice on what to do. Like to make sure a spirit didn’t get through or anything.

From Catechism of the Catholic Church, re First Commandment
[2115](javascript:OpenPopupWindow() God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others—even if this were for the sake of restoring their health—are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.
I would suggest a good Confession as soon as possible and ask the priest.

Anecdotal evidence suggests this is not something to be fooled with.

Megzy: Please don’t take offence, but as others have pointed out, Satan can manifest himself as an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:14). He is the master deceiver! The Church clearly condemns such practices, so surely it can not be of God. These spirits are crafty. Should you not consider the possibility that the spirits you are contacting are not human spirits as they claim, but angels of Satan deceiving you? Remember, the Church teaches that a human soul goes immediately to one of three states upon death:
  1. Hades…and you surely can not help anyone in Hades.
  2. Purgatory…we can help them, but through prayer. Is it possible to contact spirits in a state of purgatory through other means? I don’t know, but the Church and God condemns it because the spirit realm is much too dangerous for us.
  3. Heaven.
God bless.
And may the Lord Jesus Christ through the intercession of our Holy Mother Mary protect you and bind all evil spirits that may wish to attack you. Amen.

Ouija boards are “controlled” by the ideomotor effect: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideomotor

There is nothing supernatural behind it. That does not mean they are harmless. They can cause all kinds of psychological traumas, if you see more behind them as a piece of wood.

The Ouija Board: A Game or a Gamble?
by Fr. Robert Allgaier

One day, after speaking to a group of High School students about the dangers of dabbling with occultic activities, such as Ouija boards, I asked if they had any questions or comments. In a subdued voice – and without a hint of sarcasm or levity – one boy raised his hand and said, “I had something…happen…to my friend and me when we used a Ouija board.”

The room of teenagers was hushed as he explained what happened. They had used the board “just for fun” and didn’t expect anything to happen. They were wrong.

Patrick2340:
First, let’s take a look at the history of the Ouija board. It developed out of a combination of two parlor games. The first involved a planchette shaped like a heart with a hole through large enough for a pencil. It was believed that a medium could hold the pencil/planchette, and thereby “channel” messages from the dead. The second game was a dial like board with an indicator that rotated in order to point at particular letters. The makers of the Ouija board combined both games to form the Ouija board. Eventually, they sold their patent to Parker Brothers (around 1966).

So, how does a Ouija board really work? About 1852, William B. Carpenter, developed a theory called ideometer action. This theory suggested that muscular movement can be initiated by the mind independently of volition or emotions.

Scientific tests by American psychologist William James, French chemist Michel Chevreul, English scientist Michael Faraday, and American psychologist Ray Hyman have demonstrated that many phenomena attributed to spiritual or paranormal forces, or to mysterious “energies” are actually due to ideomotor action. Furthermore, these tests demonstrate that “honest, intelligent people can unconsciously engage in muscular activity that is consistent with their expectations” (Hyman 1999). They also show that suggestions that can guide behavior can be given by subtle clues (Hyman 1977).

Now, with all that said, it is entirely possible that Satan can make use of such games for his own diabolical ends. My father used to tell me that just using the devil’s name alerts him to you.
Someone ought to have shown this to Megzy before some of you guys started ridiculing her, methinks.

Although I realize this is what some Catholics may believe, there is no proof that all souls go directly to heaven, purgatory, or “hell”.

BlessedBe13:
Although I realize this is what some Catholics may believe, there is no proof that all souls go directly to heaven, purgatory, or “hell”.
Well, when it comes to that, do YOU have proof of your belief (or non-belief) about the after-life?

We believe that there is no possibility of change after one dies, since beyond this world there is only eternity. Thus, a person who dies cannot have any possible choice any more. If a person died in the state of grace, he cannot possibly postpone his going to heaven, because that is his place for eternity, even if he necessarily has to go through the temporal punishment of purgatory first. If he died in a state of sinfulness, then he must go to hell, and that’s that. There is no hesitation after death; there can only be either glory or suffering. That is the dogma of the Church, and that is what we believe is infallible, proof or no proof.

But think about this: If a person could still “hang around” with us after he dies, then this must mean that the afterlife is also some sort of a temporal world, a world bound by change, where people could still choose their actions. Frankly, such an afterlife is no different from those of the pagan mythologers, whose religions were merely a compendium of fairy tales and ghost stories. Such an afterlife would be an insult to Christ’s death. Do you think that Jesus died on the cross merely to give us some modernized Hades?

There is no proof of our belief (except death). But if afterlife is something that could be affected by pieces of wood, then atheists would certainly have a more logical view of the world.

How about using holy water? Sprinkle it on you while asking God to cast out any demons. You could ask God to protect you specifically from evil spirits. You could pray the following prayer (not sure about how you view praying to saints, but I don’t think there’s anything doctrinally wrong for you here, St. Michael did battle Satan: Jude v.9):

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
