My brother is an ex hells angel and his girlfriend dresses the same way this person dressed. With the Lords help, how am I supposed to get him to come and stay in such an intolerate setting. I’m trying to save my brother from hell. Dress codes!!! Are you kidding!!! We are talking about souls here. Tim
Keep them from embarrassment and tell them what to expect.
I’m sure your brother and his girlfriend have common sense. The bikers I know are kind and considerate. Most are vets.
No one is saying that they should be dressed like the Amish and leather is even acceptable in my parish. I’ve seen bikers come for Baptisms at my parish and all are dressed modestly. They may be in jeans, but none are immodest.

yes, she came to Mass, and yes that was good. yes, she doesn’t speak english according to the guy that was with her.
i don’t understand why you think was rude when i was not rude. not by a long shot. i wasn’t even sanctimonious either.
i never reprimanded her or ridiculed her in front of anyone. iwas not uncharitable to her at all. as soon as the guy told me she does not speak english, i spoke to him, and told him the dress code, and i politely showed to her the dress code by pointing to my veil and my skirt. she got it believe me, and she laughed it off like it was a good joke. at no time was i ever rude to her at any second.
Or maybe she was extremely embarrassed.

My sister will laugh things off, if she is extremely embarrassed.

However, I only know that because she is my sister… others looking in may see that she thought it was a joke.

but then looking at some of these posts it would seem common sense was thrown out with the bath water;)

Not only was it thrown out—but from what is being reflected here—it seems some don’t want it back.

As she should be…

It’s sad when people are more understanding and passionate about enforcing dress codes for work and fancy restaurants but will defend vehemently a person dressing like a prostitute with the Lord present at the altar… I know I would be embarrassed going to a job interview in shorts and a dirty t-shirt…

I bet if a woman dressed this way to anyone’s office it would be quite the scandal, but since it’s only Church Marilena has no right to politely explain it’s not appropriate? There’s a serious disconnect somewhere.

What a sad state our Church is in…

Sad isnt it?
And then we are told that the Vaticans dress code is too extreme for Americans …GEEZ what is so extreme about it?
Here I thought it was something that all catholics and catholic churchs should strive for…but I guess what is good for the Vatican is not good for us:confused:

My brother has common sense about how to dress at church, but he feels so distant and hopeless about his soul. He is a confirmed member of the Catholic Church that has strayed. Right now is pivotal in his returning and an ungracious comment would ruin the chances of him returning. I hope this lady wasn’t at that kind of crossroad. Tim

everybody is also supposed to know not to name call! like calling people hookers. how would you like it if someone said that about you, or to the wives, or daughters, or sisters, and girlfriends, or mothers! im pretty sure Jesus finds this unacceptable, along with dressing immodestly! For some reason I just cant picture Jesus telling Mary M. that she looked like a hooker!

The VATICAN has a dress code…if it is good enough for them it should be the standard that ALL Catholic Churchs strive for!
Yes, the Vatican does have a dress code. And it is nothing near as rigorist as the dress code enforced at SSPX chapels.

What about calling people jaded without merit…😉

Pot meet kettle…

And I said “dressed like a hooker”, it’s a descriptive narrative that seems appropriate from Marilena’s depiction. Hookers wear hot pants, therefore dressed like a hooker isn’t calling anyone a name, simply descibing how they’re dressed, I don’t know if the woman prostitutes herself, simply she dressed like to Marilena’s Church.

From reading thru this thread—it seems that people are being raised above God. It is no longer about offering to God the proper respect (in our demeanor and clothing)-especially in His house—but about not “offending” someone by taking them aside and explaining to them the appropriate attire for Mass.
People are becoming the primary----God is the secondary.
That’s been going on for a long time. When I was a Protestant same thing there, people were more important that God. It has not changed there, and now it is in the Catholic Church.

Why even in this post there is one who values man over God just by the way of their very post. This topic has shown more true colors than any others in our new forums, it shows the ones who value God as should be and also shows the other side those that relegate God to the background and man in the supreme role.

Like I said in my last post the Respect that is due God is almost completely gone in our society, except for a remnant it would not exist now. As always MHO

Today at Mass, when it was over, a woman came down from the rafter seat and i was on my way out of the church. She was wearing the most appalling attire i have ever seen at a Mass, NO Mass or TLM!

she had on the tightest pair of pasted on pants that i ever seen! i was deeply unahppy about it. i politely took her aside
and told her she should not wear such attire to Mass.

the guy who was with her told me she did not speak english, so i told him to tell her that she should wear more appropriate
attire to Mass, and in our church, you must if you are a woman, wear a long skirt/dress and a head covering.

i demonstrated to her when he told me she did not speak english, that she should wear a skirt and not skin tight pants and a head covering. the head covering thing was not what had offended me, it was the pasted on pants.

he only smiled when i told him what the girl ought to be wearing. it was like she came in her personal self if you know what i mean, without me getting blunt here.

i have never been so offended in my entire life. all the people who saw her were shocked to say the least. when i politely pointed to my skirt and my head covering i told her this is the attire we wear to Mass, she just laughed it off like it was no big deal.

i can’t believe she wore the hooker pants to Mass! i never seen such a disgusting attire at Mass in my entire life! not in the NO and not in the TLM!
Sounds to me like you did the right thing. Thanks for caring enough to speak up. If we don’t act (demeanor and dress) like Mass is sacred then we lose out on the reality that it is.

Everyone who is taking the non-judgmental approach are just as guilty as the skintight pants wearer. Gulity of what? Degrading the deep mystery of the Mass.

In spite of what your ccd teachers told you- the Mass is more than a communal meal of just us slouches. It’s a mystical participation of the worship in heaven with Our Lady, angels Saints. It’s a re-presentation of Calvary not a party.

something we both agree on.

ok that doesnt even dignify an answer !

have no idea what you are babbling about here…must be the medicine:)

Dont think to highly of your fellow man ???
Or is it that you feel the Vaticans standards are just too extreme???
I see nothing wrong with the standards of dress that the Vatican has…and IMHO all Catholics should strive for the same standard in their churchs!

.
I live in the American culture in 2006 and I am a Catholic. I would think that at 48 a strapless sundress would look ridiculas at mass. I always preferred the 6 pm Sunday evening mass…I wore jeans and pull over sweater and my Clarks clogs in winter. And in summer, I wore jeans and and a sleeved top (I can’t wear sleeveless, I have flying squirrel arms) and my Dr. Scholls or a pair of flats. The shoes didn’t clank, we had carpet.

If I went to the Vatican and the sign told me I had to cover my bare shoulders, I would. I would not be comfortable at Marilenas church, but it is no offense to her at all. She would not have been comfortable at mine.
I wasn’t comfortable at the Pentacostal church either, and they made Marilena church look like a Beach Blanket Bingo movie.

You can strive till cows come home…but unless the Pope makes it official…as you all say…I’ll wear my jeans.

ok a discriptive narrative!!! lol thats the funniest thing ive heard! If someone told you that you looked like a horses as* you wouldnt be offended? after all its just a description!

Do I sense a hint of jealousy, or envy? Remember that the prodigal son committed sins of the flesh, and the good brother committed the sins of the heart which were worse. Church is the best place for sinners! Remember that head coverings are a thing of the past and they are not required or even recommended anymore. you should not be humiliating this woman, especially in front of other people. I find it hard to believe that you were doing it for her sake and not your own, do you realize that you are still mad about a pair of pants? Ive seen worse in my day! What she was wearing is certainly disrespectful, but why do you think that you can cast the first stone? You were sinning in your heart being openly sanctimonious and disrespecting her as a daughter of Christ! I cant see anyone not fitting in and not realizing it! I dont think you can call someone a hooker and still call yourself a christian! Do you see why so many people leave the church to go to more accepting ones? Im sure the girl was not wearing them to be scandalous. For all you know… Well for all dont know I should say… You dont know what the reason for it was! SO STOP CASTING STONES!
You are absolutetly ubelievable! Did you even read the posts that Marilena made? She was polite and took the lady aside, speaking to her in private. Her priest commended her actions. What part of that don’t you understand?

ok a discriptive narrative!!! lol thats the funniest thing ive heard! If someone told you that you looked like a horses as* you wouldnt be offended? after all its just a description!
That makes no sense at all, does a horses *** dress in a certain distinct way? If wore a clown suit and someone said I dressed like a clown I wouldn’t be offended, if I wore a speedo and someone said I dress like a European at a bath house I wouldnt’ be offended because it’s descriptive, and accurate.

You calling me a horses ***, jaded and whatever other insults you levied at me is simply to insult me, which you have several times in this thread. I won’t reciprocate to your level, because it’s childish and un Christian. Stating that a woman is dressed like a prostitute or a man like a slob isn’t, it’s pointing out a fact about their appearance.

Again, the SSPX does not use the Vatican’s dress code. It enforces a more extreme one, that dictates that women cannot wear pants and must cover their heads.

The converse question could be: Why does the SSPX think it can “overrule” the Vatican in what it requires Catholics to wear to Mass?
