The Vatican dress code is not strict at all. Having been to St. Peters, I saw people in all manner of dress. The only thing that they had in common was the women did not have bare shoulders and were covered all the way to the knees. The men did not have bare shoulders and were wearing pants. So for the people calling out the Strict Vatican Dress code, it isn’t strict at all.

That makes no sense at all, does a horses *** dress in a certain distinct way? If wore a clown suit and someone said I dressed like a clown I wouldn’t be offended, if I wore a speedo and someone said I dress like a European at a bath house I wouldnt’ be offended because it’s descriptive, and accurate.

You calling me a horses *** is simply to insult me, which you have several times in this thread. I won’t reciprocate to your level, because it’s childish.
oh and saying someone is dressing like a hooker isnt meant as an insult but a compliment? ok whatever~
What if i said it just to describe to someone the way you looked! then it would be ok because it is descriptive! the bottom line is this… if its dirogatory leave it out, its not Christian!

I think the people on here who are publicly humiliating and flogging Marilena should be ashamed of themselves. You know who you are. Why do you have to keep beating her up? Is it because you think you are better than her, and would never do anything so horrendous as to correct another person?

Oh, let me guess. You are just admonishing the sinner.

I live in the American culture in 2006 and I am a Catholic. I would think that at 48 a strapless sundress would look ridiculas at mass. I always preferred the 6 pm Sunday evening mass…I wore jeans and pull over sweater and my Clarks clogs in winter. And in summer, I wore jeans and and a sleeved top (I can’t wear sleeveless, I have flying squirrel arms) and my Dr. Scholls or a pair of flats. The shoes didn’t clank, we had carpet.

If I went to the Vatican and the sign told me I had to cover my bare shoulders, I would. I would not be comfortable at Marilenas church, but it is no offense to her at all. She would not have been comfortable at mine.
I wasn’t comfortable at the Pentacostal church either, and they made Marilena church look like a Beach Blanket Bingo movie.

You can strive till cows come home…but unless the Pope makes it official…as you all say…I’ll wear my jeans.
wear your jeans …i have no issue with that…I wear them in the winter to church especially if I have had to shovel the cars out of the snow before coming to mass…

but I take issue when I can see every crease, dimple etc. that may show through someones pants…I dont want to see your anatomy or get an anatomy lesson !~!

Spandex is not the right material for mass, IMHO!

And as another poster stated…the Vatican dress code is really not that strict so why cant ALL Catholics adhere to it??

Nope but if the shoe fits…

What the woman was wearing are actually called hooker pants, I mean seriously to Mass and you defend it? Please, you’re here to start trouble and that is it.

Again, the SSPX does not use the Vatican’s dress code. It enforces a more extreme one, that dictates that women cannot wear pants and must cover their heads.

The converse question could be: Why does the SSPX think it can “overrule” the Vatican in what it requires Catholics to wear to Mass?
i happen to like wearing a mantilla and modest clothing. since when did the SSPX state that they over rule the Vatican on the dress code? where do dthey unequivocally state that?
please show us.

Maybe she was laughing because you embarrassed her so badly! Was she supposed to cry and thank you for pointing out that she was an odd ball? I would be embarrased no matter how wrong I was. If you thought what you did was right, then you dont need to post it and ask what you did was right. Face it, NO ONE wants to be pointed out of croud for any reason! I cant say it enough, She knew she was out of place BEFORE you said anything. I think that embarrasment was enough without anyone saying anything!
Beattitude, it is becoming crystal clear that you are trying to stir things up and create animosity towards Marilena. You mentioned that she was sanctimonious in a previous post. Well, my dear, you are being vindictive.

in defense of beatitude, i think the poster means that it is politically incorrect to state hooker. it might very well be. i wouldn’t walk up to a prostitute and call her a hooker or a prostitute. i would refer to her as miss.

oh boy! if you got dimples in your pants area, by all means wear nothing tight or fitting!:tsktsk:

The one thing I’ve noted was this woman was NOT seen until AFTER Mass. Also by the sound of it she sat somewhere were she would NOT be seen by most people.

By the sound of it, she didn’t take communion. (I’m assuming if she had taken communion, Father would have at least seen her and would of made a point to say something AFTER Mass.)

Truthfully there is only one side of the story the OP’s.

Maybe the woman came to church, saw how all the ladies were dressed and then decided to sit in the place she was not seen.

She may of not thought of how her dress would attract attention…she may not of realized that her attire would make her stand out from the crowd. Maybe to her, this was “norm”; and she didn’t know it would attract a lot of attention.

I’m I saying that the women had the right to wear what she did? No, I believe in Modesty (for ALL ages). Does any body have any idea how hard it is to buy clothing for a little girl?

I just think that there are 2 sides of the story; the woman in question can only answer for how she felt and what she was thinking.

Exactly…but some people insist that showing me their cottage cheese buns through their skin tight pants is A.O.K.

No you are right though. I think i misinterpretted her actions and intentions! No im not trying to stir anything up. I just dont like being called a man hater! That is the furthest thing from the truth! 😉

I see I’m not the only one to recognize that.

people only sit in the upper balcony when the seats down below are too full. i don’t think she went to communion because father would’ve likely saw her. oh no, there are more than mine believe me, but they don’t post on CAF, i do.

I had been thinking the same thing, but refused to read all these posts to see if some had noticed…

Thanks for presenting that opinion,

.

Your post disturbs me. Who can assume the woman at issue with the OP is a “whore” based solely on her attire?! Who can assume the same of our beloved Saint Mary Magdalene?! And even assuming the worst of Mary Magdalene’s status when she humbly came before Christ, dare any of us forget how Jesus’ compassion transformed this “sinful” broken woman into one of the most hallowed and powerful witnesses to His resurrection??? Do you suppose this was accidental, unintentional–or rather–a teaching moment? Can we so readily abandon His lesson and dismiss the *apparently *sinful out of arrogance, blindness or lack of faith?!?
You’re the one who suggested Mary Magdalene wore skin tight pants.

Sad isnt it?
And then we are told that the Vaticans dress code is too extreme for Americans …GEEZ what is so extreme about it?
Here I thought it was something that all catholics and catholic churchs should strive for…but I guess what is good for the Vatican is not good for us:confused:

In our day and age–it is getting more difficult to raise a family. Especially young women who are being bombarded from all sides by “fashions” which leave little to the imagination. Instilling in them a sense of respect for our Lord and within this–respect for themselves.

It is pretty darn difficult —when they see such “fashions” right there in Mass. Young men and women–will more than likely–come away—with the impression—that displaying the body in such manner—is ok—since it is what they see in church.

So in american culture it is ok to wear certain things to mass…regardless of age, body type etc.?
That’s what the New Springtime is all about…conforming to the culture and the world’s standards. That’s why we have bare-breasted native women reading the epistle at papal masses and half-naked dancers.

A liberal Catholic can do whatever they please. It’s called the spirit of Vatican II.
