i left a voice message on fathers machine, as my hubby needed to know when his catechism lesson was, and father called me back, we spoke about this incident and he told me i did the right thing, and he thanked me for politely taking her aside and speaking to her.
woo, hoo. Thanks for the quick response on letting us all know what happened. You learned something here and so, hopefully did the rest of us, sometimes we need to talk gently to someone who might not know the “rules”, far better to be told gently than to have those sniggering about her and, indeed, gossiping about “how dare she…” etc.

Thank you for being so brave.

Do you remember the scene from “First Wives Club” in Goldie Hawn’s apartment when it seemed the trio was breaking up? It was Bette Midler’s line. 😉
nope. never seen it. clarify please?

Never seen it. And I thought I was being original. 😉

I read all the post and I can tell you I am in shock from some here. Maybe I shouldn’t be though I was afarid that we would get attacked by people wanting to shut down our new forum here.

I can’t believe any of you would chide Marilena, as if what she did was bad. I am appaled that some here think it doesn’t matter how they go see our Lord. Sickening, just sickening and a Protestant attitude to boot.

If we believe Christ is the King of Kings then we should want to dress in our best. Sure some may not have three piece suits and I don’t see anyone asking for that. But are people so dense to think they can dress any old way.

It all comes down to the fact that this culture doesn’t know respect and wouldn’t know it if it bites them in the tush. All MHO

at least it wasn’t a dude wearing hot pants.

i used to work as a life guard on the beach. sometimes gay guys would walk down the beach in a thong. i had the horrible experience of telling them they can’t wear that on this beach.

I think you did the right thing, Marilena! :clapping:
And for those who say what if the woman in the tight pants doesn’t come back because of what Marilena said, I ask, what about all the men who would be led into sin time after time if the woman kept returning wearing scandalous immodest clothing because no one said anything to her?

I apologize for any irreverence show here. But first, this is a board, not mass. The discussions here should allow people time to learn from reading. I would have been equally upset to see what Marilena saw. I’m actually proud of her for standing up. My point was that almost anything would have been the right thing to do here. But she stepped outside of herself and approached this woman. But, I have witnessed much worst in my days. I’ve grew up in the 70’s with a lot of trashy dress. It was not what I consider reverent. I recently saw several women dressed inappropriate in my opinion while reading and helping the Holy Father in Rome. Not shocking, but very disappointing.

Some of us are trying to not judge and forgive like Christ did to the woman that was going to be stoned had he not intervened. And some of us may not be conservative. I am conservative and was a Traditionalist 30 years ago when all my piers were in the what’s happening now age. I wanted to see old ways return as a teen. Probably why I got so discouraged in the seminary.

Pray for the woman and her male “friend”.

PAX

The old advice is still good advice. Clothing tight enough to show she’s a woman but loose enough to show she’s a lady.
BTW, guys don’t look so good in skin-tight clothing either:o .

the dress code is written on a large paper for everyone to see.
the guy could have told her about it. if she does come back,
and wears the same attire, i will talk to the priest.at least she knows now what not to wear to Mass…

Makes you wonder how different our sacred tradition would look if Jesus had enforced “the dress code” on, say Mary Magdalene, instead of welcoming her with compassion…just a thought.

Exactly. It would be hard to http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/ignore.gif the way she was dressed. And that would become an occasion for sin for many others.

This reminds me of Ponty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail “She’s a witch…she’s a with…Let’s burn her…”

Do we really know that Christ didn’t tell her that her dress was wrong? Do we know her dress was wrong in the first place? I mean, we know what her life was like but I don’t think that the Mary Magdelenes of the day tried to call that much attention to themselves lest they be stoned. At the very least, like the woman at the well, I’m sure that Christ let her know that her lifestyle wasn’t right.

I wasn’t aware that 1st century whores wore skin tight pants… And how do you know Jesus didn’t enforce it? She must have ended her prostitution and repented otherwise she wouldn’t be a saint now, would she?

I don’t think that is an appropriate way to speak of anyone, much less a saint. The Bible does not specify what Mary Magdalene’s sins were, only saying she was once demon-possesed.

Your post disturbs me. Who can assume the woman at issue with the OP is a “whore” based solely on her attire?! Who can assume the same of our beloved Saint Mary Magdalene?! And even assuming the worst of Mary Magdalene’s status when she humbly came before Christ, dare any of us forget how Jesus’ compassion transformed this “sinful” broken woman into one of the most hallowed and powerful witnesses to His resurrection??? Do you suppose this was accidental, unintentional–or rather–a teaching moment? Can we so readily abandon His lesson and dismiss the *apparently *sinful out of arrogance, blindness or lack of faith?!?
