  2. Is chambered for a cartridge of medium power.
  3. Is fed from detachable magazines.
According to a Fox report that I saw just this evening, all three parts of the definition must be met. The AR-15 fails on #1; it is semi-automatic only.

And by the way, to forestall anyone’s posting an urban legend, the “AR” in “AR-15” does not stand for “assault rifle;” it stands for “Armalite rifle.” Armalite was the original manufacturer.

I explained myself and the context on the comment. My comment had to do with the response to someone who said that the US should ban Muslims from entering the country and I said that wouldn’t have mattered in this case. You asked about it; I’ve explained it a few times and I am honestly struggling with another way to explain it. Perhaps you should take the time to re-read the original post you responded to.

Again, I don’t want to upset you, but if you are talking about the context of my comments, I have in several posts including this one. If you are talking about something else, then I am not sure what that is, so you’ll have to explain it.

That’s not the definition used by Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act.

Gay rage cannot be ruled out as a possible motive, given the reports that are emerging of this guy using gay dating apps and frequenting this place several times.

There is no constitutional requirement to allow Muslim aliens, or any other foreign national, to enter the country without proper vetting. There is a constitutional requirement not to restrict lawful ownership of firearms.

Why? Because it regulated by appearance, not function?

The Ruger M-14 for example, was not classified as an ‘assault’ under the Act you referenced, even though it is functionally identical to the AR-15.

Why should one be considered an ‘Assault Rifle’ and the other not when they do the exact same thing?

Possibly.

We’ve seen this kind of thing before: most recently in Virginia when that guy shot the two reporters during a live broadcast, and in Europe when that Germanwings pilot flew that plane into a mountain. In both cases, the perpetrators were struggling with SSA.

I don’t know about that part. Yet I found the news that several people remembered seeing him there on prior occasions; that he was registered on more than one gay dating app; that he seemed obsessed with weightlifting and physical fitness; and that he was abusive toward his wife particularly revealing.

I would think both should be covered under any new law banning these weapons.
