That may be the case, but it isn’t the pope that we are loyal to, it is the faith we were given. I doubt there will ever be any definitions that will contradict tradition. There will just be an emphasis on ‘pastoral care’, which will continue to grow more contradictory to the traditions of the Church to the point where we wonder why the saints ever asked any of those questions. There are no more heretics, just tight traditionalists.

Pastoral care, yes.
And eventually, when the Catechism language on homosexuality is revised, there will be nothing any of us can do about it anyway.

I wouldn’t say that the pope lifting the sanctions against McCarrick was really a reason for him to resign. There were no accusations of criminal activity at the time, at least that were known to anyone in the hierarchy as far as we are aware. The sanctions were a matter of penance. But it deserves a response and an explanation. The bishops and priests have taken a vow of chastity, yet the antics of bishops and priests like McCarrick are tolerated and ignored. If the Church is going to have a celibate priesthood, it better make sure that it’s priests are living a celibate lifestyle. Otherwise they are bound to lack any moral authority in their preaching.

Do you have an inside line on this? Why do you claim it will happen instead of might happen?

At least before there was a belief that the pope might be honest. Now he just seems like a progressive who is willing to ignore any questions against his own character, or that of his most trusted colleagues. You have bishops like Cupich making public statements dismissing accusations as ‘rabbit holes’ that won’t be addressed because of ‘more important issues’, and introducing progressive talk about those who disagree hating the pope ‘because he is latino’. ‘Move along, there is nothing to see here.’

You know, Vigano adds to the suspicions against him with little quips in his letters like “This is the transparency of the Holy See under Pope Francis!” His testimony with document citations, names, places, etc. are damning enough. These little rhetorical outbursts make him look petty.

That said, wow! This is the most duplicitous Pope Francis has ever looked.

Earlier this week, Cardinal Cupich said the Pope has more important things to talk about. Sure enough, today he spoke out on the environment, with a mention about the plight of refugees.
So, there ya go.

Go Irish! Go Trojans! Go Cowboys!

I hate to play up stereotypes, but this makes him look Italian more than anything. 😛

According to an unnamed source, Bishop V. did receive a package from an anonymous sender this morning, at an undisclosed location:

Yes, but when he is effectively called a list by the Holy Father, it is somewhat understandable

Cupich is not Francis. Francis is not Cupich.

Very true. And now something far more important than rumors of scandal–Michigan v. Notre Dame!

He also mentioned the water crisis, which I had mentioned on previous threads on overpopulation. However, I was sternly criticized for doing so.

I agree, there could definitely be circumstances where the Holy Father did nothing wrong or at worse used bad judgement, and still Vigano’s letter is largely true. I have posted a different scenario that yours that falls along the poor judgement line. Not worth resigning over.
But there were others in the letter that may not get off so lightly. We need to know. The letter was not just about the pope.

The letter also extreme partisanship on the Pope. Did he call an archbishop a right winger? Does he grant extreme power to certain other people, bypassing the college of bishops? Did he rely on guidance from McCarrick?

Final score:
Notre Dame 24, Michigan 17.
Was I close? See post #849, lol!

He’s simply stating the logical outcome of “born this way.”
There is an easy answer as to why that blows up in the face of an overly progressive person, but no need to sidetrack. Such is a matter of science, and really irrelevant in the long run.

There will be no investigation. Meanwhile the church will become a joke in everyone’s eyes.
Not everyone’s eyes. God has always had his people, and Paul taught that we will always look foolish. I am okay with that. I think most people are stupid anyway, as seen by the various reactions to news and the internet over the last few years. We have done a poor job teach Americans how to read and how to think.

As the details surrounding this story become known, I wonder if the unprecedented demand that Pope Francis resign which was made by Archbishop Vigano and his helpers was actually intended to create a sensation and get the attention which they have now achieved. I know there are many who would indeed like to see the end of Pope Francis’ reign, but so far, the more I read about this particular story, the less valid reasons I see that would warrant his resignation. Rather, I wonder if the actual intent of this letter was to bring attention to what they consider to be the real problem, homosexual clergy, an issue which would likely have been ignored by the media without the resignation demand.
