Refugees detained at US airports after Trump exec order

Just know your inaction enables Trump and is hurting hundreds of families in need. We need to help these refugees. This is a Muslim ban effectively - think on that.
My inaction?

What do you want me to do?

Your position is to oppose the action without coming up with a soluton to counter it. You seem to think the vetting process is working just fine (which is a fine position to have if that it your opinion, but it is a position of inaction as it doesn’t address the obvious gap in our nation’s vetting process).

As discussed earlier, it has long been a US policy to go out of its way to support Saudi Arabia. As an energy producer, ally against al-Qaeda and ISIS, and a counter to Iran, they’re too important. We ostensibly supported the Arab Spring uprisings, yet let them send tanks into Bahrain to crush the protesters with little objection. This has been the case for years and years and has nothing to do with Trump.
This may be true, but I thought that Trump was breaking with traditional approaches in domestic and foreign policy. It appears this is the case except when his business interests interfere.

Oh, good grief! Has no one noticed that, of all the world’s religions, only certain aspects of Islam are at war - particularly with the west? Has no one noticed the religion involved in virtually all acts of domestic terrorism? Has no one seen the necessity of prudence in allowing adherents of this religion into the west? Look at Europe - the rape and terrorism capital of the earth. Ar those Hindus? Shintoists? Daoists? Confucianists? No.

Practitioners of the “at-war” religion must be vetted before being allowed entry. Let’s just say its for “the children.”

And just where did this attitude come from that the US is morally obligated to support the entire earth, and is morally bound to blindly accept anyone who demands entry?

Both my parents were green card holders. They never became citizens, but were vetted before getting his green card. My dad lived 30 years doing evertything right and obeying all the laws and paying all his taxes. My mom as well, she’s lived here over 55 years. Green card holders have been thoroughly vetted already.

Incredible.

What will this stupidity do to make America great again?
There is a difference in being a citizen and having a green card. If you want to permanently remain in the US you have to become a citizen.

Actually things have been far worse in the past. The celebrated Abraham Lincoln had a US congressman, Clement Vallandigham, a native born citizen, tried for treason for criticizing him and his war. As punishment he was exiled from the US. That was a native born man who served in congress.

What the hell is this

Refugees ARE/WERE vetted.

Stop letting them in ! Check the current Muslim population of European cities like Marseilles, Birmingham, Rotterdam, Brussels. Malmo, etc. Perhaps you see no danger in that, but I think it’s terrifying. People from places like Somalia, Sudan, Libya, etc are culturally incompatible to Americans.
I have a feeling that many in the 1800s would have stated that “people from places like China, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, Russia”, etc., etc., are “culturally incompatible to Americans”. There certainly was an effective “Oriental Ban” for some time called the Gentleman’s Agreement. And of course, “Irish Catholic Need Not Apply”

I am more sympathetic to those who fear actual Islamist terrorists but do not assume every Muslim from a certain country is a terrorist or sympathizer.

Ironic that a man who I assume is of Irish descent has an attitude that would have kept his ancestors out of the US a 100 years ago.

Not really. There are no US allies on that list, except perhaps Iraq, but Iraq is right in the thick of this war. In particular, Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey are not included, all of which are important players against ISIS and part of a US-aligned bloc against Iran.

Still awaiting your answer,
But what about those who are already in?
What about them?

Oh, so we’ve overtaken places like Kabul and Raqqa now have we? I honestly hadn’t been aware that the situation had gotten so dire, you know given that I am European and all

Thank you for making such a wonderful tourism pitch on our behalf.

We cannot scapegoat innocent Muslims.

I agree this is a common presumption. Ellis Island, all that. But I don’t think Ellis Island was about people who had sworn to our destruction, who were coming in to build terrorist cells. This reality and potential threat should shift our attitude with respect to nations that foster Islamic terrorism. These countries exist. Our goal however, can never be to turn away nonviolent refugees/immigrants/travelleres from these countries and I don’t think that is Trump’s goal. He has to make this distinction crystal clear.

Apparently green card holders, meaning people who live here legally and have been vetted are not being allowed in.
AND… If you hold a green card and don’t spend a certain length of time in the USA (I think it’s more than 50% of the year), your green card can be revoked. So, if the US isn’t letting them in, and this executive order persists more than a few months, they could lose their green cards? All because they happened to be traveling at the time the executive order was signed? These are people who have been vetted, who have families, jobs, homes in America. Some of them have probably spent decades here and their whole lives are here. To where will they go?

This is why sanctuary cities, such as New York and several others, are so important. Muslim (as well as Mexican) immigrants must be protected, and part of that protection is informing them of their civil rights, which no one, including the POTUS, is permitted to curtail. This situation places mayors, such as De Blasio of NY, in a peculiar position, by choosing to take the moral stance to defy orders from the federal government.

The response here will be directly proportionate to peoples behaviour. If in the next 4 years we have no Islamic terror attacks in America, I think you will see a greater degree of acceptance shown towards Muslim immigrants. If terror attacks increase and become more commonplace throughout America, countermeasures will become much more serious than this.

And you feel those should be…?

In the news:

(CNN)Iran says it will ban all US citizens from entering the country in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order limiting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, according to an Iranian Foreign Ministry statement published on state media Saturday.
