Rhode Island bishop: Obama’s Tuscon compassion ‘meaningless’ in light of abortion support

We know that so many are so wedded to the Democratic Party that we will go round and round with them. However the majority of the people in any discussion forum are lurkers and it is for them we continue to reply. They need to know that one cannot justify supporting Barack Obama because they think he is good on the other issues. They need to know that when people attack the Bishop for concisely quoting Catholic doctrine that they, not the Bishop, are outside the mainstream of Catholic teaching. Way too many Catholics bought into the lie that was okay to support pro-abortion politicians as long as he was “good” on the other issues.

It should be noted that John Boehner not only skipped the state dinner but directly confronted the Chinese president about his countries abortion policy. It should be noted that when the Chinese president visited George Bush there was no pomp and ceremony and their only meal was a working lunch. Obama not only kowtowed to this brutal dictator but sent a clear message of his support for his dictatorship when he dismissed the Dalai Lama from the White House via a back door surrounded by trash bags.
 
The Bishops statements have me wondering.

Had Christina Taylor Green, the nine year old who was killed at Tuscon, been a member of the Dioceses Bishop Tobin is head of, would he have refused to allow her to have a
Catholic Funeral Mass, being she supported a pro-choice politician?

What about Judge Roll, who is also a Catholic who was there at the rally in support of Gabrielle Gifford’s, should he have been refused to have a Catholic Funeral?

After all, Bishop Tobin has told Catholics who vote for Pro-Choice politicians, not to receive Holy Communion, but what about a Catholic Funeral?

I think it’s appropriate for the Bishop to criticize President Obama’s position on abortion, but the timing and reference to the speech given at Tuscon, seems callous.

What’s to obfuscate? Do read why I made the remark I did. Caterina spoke of how the President was defined. I added his origins as another definition. Nothing sinister or complicated. 🙂

I don’t know how he prioritizes. It could be not even a blip or, as you suggest, maybe not.

Since no one knows the state of their souls the moment they died it is impossible to answer this question. Hopefully they had repented of supporting the evil of abortion.

But know one knows the state of a soul when he votes for a pro-choice politician, yet, some Bishops like Bishop Tobin, have told Catholics to not receive Holy Communion, if they vote for pro-choice politicians.

It seems inconsistant to allow a Catholic Funeral Mass, but not Holy Communion.

I would not presume to know the state of one’s soul when they vote for a pro-abortion politician. We know that when they do so they are directly rejecting the teachings of the Church but whether this entails a mortal sin for them depends upon a lot of factors, which you can find in the catechism by looking under “mortal sin.”

Just because Catholics were attending the meeting in Tucson, does not mean that they voted for Gabrielle Gifford.

Secondly even if said Catholics did vote for her, no one has suggested that they be denied a Catholic funeral mass. Even Ted Kennedy was entitled to a PRIVATE Funeral Mass.

I said the Dalai Lama was treated with disrespect and treated far less respectfully than the president of China . Nothing in the article you posted refuted that.

We also know from the president’s Press Secretary that the president did not consider forced abortions to be a serious enough an issue to bring up with the Chinese president. But then that would probably cause him great problems with his Democrat base if he did so. Thank God John Boehner had the courage to confront the Chinese president on this.
