I have never heard that $250,000 is the average American salary. Where are you seeing that?
*I believe it comes from both parties focusing so much attention on whether or not to tax or not tax those who make less than $250,000.00 and then say they are for the middle class and the poor so it leaves me to believe that these must be what the majority of the voters are making because the majority of the voters are either poor or middle class. Or, to put it more correctly, what we assume or are lead to believe that the majority of the voters are making…

Not sure if that makes any sense…it’s just what I am getting out of everything I am reading and hearing…*

You just can’t help yourself, can you?
“No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers… No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less.”
He was describing the middle class, he was not saying the average person made $250,000

Epan is the only one who uses this sort of language around here, unless it is done in jest. He does so for effect, like a child stomping their feet for attention. Best left ignored.
I need to update my ignore list. 😊

It is for those who add nothing to the discussion but baseless ad hominems.

So he said middle class was those making $250,000 or less. Sounds reasonable considering married public school teachers in New York make that.

I can’t speak for your relatives and your own situation but I know I end up with “agree to disagree” when someone uncharitably puts my views down with words such as silly, stupid, naive and nuts.
Sometimes that is said with charity.

Yes, $50k is the median. What is the range that encompasses the “Middle Class”?

We spend so much time arguing semantics in this country and then wonder why no one is getting anything done.

Read the article, middle of what is the question. $250K is harldy the middle of income earned. I think it more likely represents the top 4 or 5%.

Question is, can you help yourself. I answer with facts and links, and you throw barbs.
That’s real adult.

Did you not read the BOLDED section quoted from your own source?

What part of $250k OR LESS escapes you?

For you and all the other hard-right-wingers here who still cannot get out of their insulated bubble and face reality:

The right’s many attacks on Mitt Romney:

Politico is extremely left wing. Why not quote HuffPo? They have about the same politics?

Robert is correct, both parties have a few useful idiots who love the sound of their own voices as they predict gloom and doom. When you can quote Karl Rove or Dick Morris on this subject, I’ll pay attention.

Yes I did. I simple answered a question from the previous post about Romney and the $250 issue, no opinion, just a fact.

The point is, he never said that $250,000 was the average income of anyone. So you didn’t answer with facts.

But when asked, you pulled this quote as proof. Somehow forgetting that the quote included “or less.” Either you cut it off intentionally or not. Which was it?

If it was intentional, it seems quite obvious that you can’t help but to mangle what Romney says. If it wasn’t intentional, I do apologize, but also need to say that you need to check your sources a little better.

This is the first I found. Read the article, the $50K is the Median income for people in this country.
*Thank you for that even though there is no article when I open the page, but $50K sounds more realistic.

Personally I would love for those who are making the $250,000.00 to $350,000.00 not have to loose there income by being burdened with taxes. To me this will just eventually bring their income down and God knows one can not raise a family well with an income of $50K in todays ecconomy…it would be so nice to just make

The really sad thing is everyone is so focused on the $250,000.00 that they do not realize that this is just pennies to what the “few” are making hand over fist. For some reason the people who make the $250K seem to be taking the punishment for the few who are making well over $250K.*

The incumbent Democrats will appoint pro-death judges. That’s my point. We need to elect pro-life Democrats…
There aren’t any. It’s hard to elect those imaginary perfect candidates. The Democrat party has sold out completely to the abortion lobby. They aren’t just nibbling around the edges with talk about “women’s healthcare” but claiming at the Convention women should receive unrestricted access to ABORTION (they used the “A” word) REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY…

So they’ve upped the ante ProVobis. Any Dem that dares to speak against Big Mama is thrown into the Lake of Fire. Bart Stupak made the mistake of pretending to support life while capitulating to Nancy Pelosi’s demands to vote for Obamacare.

We reap what they sowed.

I totally agree. Atheletes, movie stars and corporate presidents make million, that’s where the focus should be. Sorry about the link, I went back and it was down.

$250K sounds like a lot (compared to what most of us make) but the problem with targeting such a number is the cost of living and the salary structure varies greatly by location. $250K in New York City is a completely different situation from $250K in Bismarck North Dakota. If the Dems truly want to tax “the rich” they need a lot higher threshold than $250K although that’s the magic number. Further while it plays into Obama’s class warfare game we do not “tax the rich” but we do heavily tax those who work for wages and salaries. Seems rather bass-ackwards to me if you want to encourage people to support themselves.

I’m a believer in real tax reform, something like a consumption tax that catches all those under the radar, those living on cash payments and not claiming income. That also allows people to control their tax burden. The current system with yearly tinkering, small tweaks and changes only give accountants and software developers more to do. Imagine dismantling the IRS? Unfortunately Obamacare has created dozens of new taxes so any hope to change the system is probably unfounded.

If it was intentional why would I attach a link. My personal opinion is posted below, at 10:52, I believe number 546

Yes I did. I simple answered a question from the previous post about Romney and the $250 issue, no opinion, just a fact.
The fact is he said middle income was $250,000 to $200,000 or less. Would you consider $10,000 to high? Because it is less than $250,000.

less
   [les] Show IPA

adverb, a compar. of little with least as superl.
1.
to a smaller extent, amount, or degree: less exact.
most certainly not (often preceded by much or still ): He could barely pay for his own lodging, much less for that of his friend.
in any way different; other: He is nothing less than a thief.

***adjective, a compar. of little with least as superl. ***
4.
smaller in size, amount, degree, etc.; not so large, great, or much: less money; less speed.
lower in consideration, rank, or importance: no less a person than the manager.
fewer: less than a dozen.

As pointed out $200,000 would be the salary of a two married public school teachers in New York and the $250,000 is close to two public school teachers in Chicago. If the “high range” is still within the range of an “underpaid” school teacher how can it be considered to high?
