The fact is he said middle income was $250,000 to $200,000 or less. Would you consider $10,000 to high? Because it is less than $250,000.

less
   [les] Show IPA

adverb, a compar. of little with least as superl.
1.
to a smaller extent, amount, or degree: less exact.
most certainly not (often preceded by much or still ): He could barely pay for his own lodging, much less for that of his friend.
in any way different; other: He is nothing less than a thief.

***adjective, a compar. of little with least as superl. ***
4.
smaller in size, amount, degree, etc.; not so large, great, or much: less money; less speed.
lower in consideration, rank, or importance: no less a person than the manager.
fewer: less than a dozen.

As pointed out $200,000 would be the salary of a two married public school teachers in New York and the $250,000 is close to two public school teachers in Chicago. If the “high range” is still within the range of an “underpaid” school teacher how can it be considered to high?
Source for your average teacher in NY making $200K and close to $250K in Chicago. By the way, neither are representative in terms of average cost of living.

Actually I said “MARRIED” and I did not say “AVERAGE” but then you knew that when you changed what I said in your question.

Those are high cost of living areas - but they are indeed part of the United States that he will be president of.

Average salary for Chicago teachers per news related to recent strike $71,000. That’s the average not the high or low. “Public servants” such as cops and firemen in many big cities make nearly six figures, sometimes more. There have been many recent news items about city employees in California making well over six figures even in the small towns where average salary is $30000.

As I noted previously, what this buys depends on where you live and the problem with picking a comparatively low number and claiming this taxes “the rich” is problematic. A cop and a teacher in NYC have a much heavier tax burden than in Detroit. Federal taxes do not take this into account and do become burdensome in high tax states and cities.

Again if we want to “tax the rich” then the current system that punishes earned income is hardly the way to go.

Politico is extremely left wing. Why not quote HuffPo? They have about the same politics?
Irrelevant. It quotes Republicans and points to their own links.
Robert is correct, both parties have a few useful idiots who love the sound of their own voices as they predict gloom and doom. When you can quote Karl Rove or Dick Morris on this subject, I’ll pay attention.
So you find people like Bill Kristol and Peggy Noonan (speechwriter for Ronald Reagan) idiots. Interesting. Keep digging your own grave.

Comments like this just show how fanatically hard right-wing you and and many others here are, far beyond reasonable mainstream conservatism.

Differences of opinion are allowed among conservatives. I know liberals have to lock step and march together as one - perhaps the idea of individual opinions will someday be allowed by them. Maybe they will allow Joe Liberman back into the party then.

Indeed they are part of the US, the most costly to live in. If your suggesting they are overpaid, I don’t agree. If your saying their contribution is greater than the basketball player making millions, I agree. Please examine the credentials and time served to earn these salaries. If you think it’s so great, apply.

I wouldn’t expect that anytime soon. Supposedly, liberals were disappointed in Obama, but they shut them up in a hurry once campaigning began.

So he said middle class was those making $250,000 or less. Sounds reasonable considering married public school teachers in New York make that.
It does depend on which part of the country you live in. In NYC you almost need to make that amount, especially if you live in Manhattan. And small businesses pay a high rent in New York as well.

Agreed. And I think I pointed that out in a previous post.

I don’t think I made any such comment. You were the one claiming it was ridiculous that people making that kind of money be considered “middle class” - I simply pointed out your error.

Peggy Noonan has been off the reservation for decades but still seems to think she is an authority. No one in Republican circles considers her anything but a has been who wants to live on her legacy. I greatly respect Bill Kristol however. He was right, these phrases were neither an accurate assessment or helpful in getting elected.

The point is that no one is arguing Romney’s words were poorly chosen. He seemed to put the 50% who don’t pay taxes and the 50% dependent on the government into the same category. The point was with respect to strategy. Why go after those who will never be interested in his message. Obama could spend millions trying to convince me he’s anything but an incompetent narcissistic Leftist. Won’t happen. Further there is some missing portions of the tape. It is easy enough to cut and paste to put things out of context. Remember the Trayvon Martin case where the station cut and pasted George Zimmerman’s words to make it sound like he targeted Martin because he was black.

So what’s your point? You think you can convince me with has been hacks and words with which I agree that I won’t vote for Romney? It’s not going to change anyone’s mind but like Obama’s many blunders “you didn’t build that” “57 states” “spread the wealth around” it does gin up the opposition.

All I know is that 64 House Democrats voted for the Stupak Amendment when the House bill with the public option was still in play. I personally watched the vote on CSPAN and they mentioned most of them were taking political risks with their votes on this.

Sure you can claim “But they voted for Obamacare.” Some of them did but so what? They could have been duped by the forces that ran the Democratic Party. AFAIK there was nothing in the bill that forced government to pay for abortions. The privates had already been funding abortions. (The mandate followed but that had nothing directly to do with the bill on which they voted.)

Had these same bluedog Democrats been Republicans, especially Stupak, they probably would have been treated with much more respect by the far right. Instead they got voted out and the Republicans, many of them pro-choice or pro-status-quo, gloated.

On the Senate side, pro-life Democrats have less of a chance. There are some Republicans ready to compromise their own “pro-life” position to get something else for their constituents (those bills frequently have unrelated items) but that’s another topic.
Democrats who voted for the Stupak amendment: Altmire, Baca, Barrow, Berry, Bishop (GA), Boccieri, Boren, Bright, Cardoza, Carney, Chandler, Childers, Cooper, Costa, Costello, Cuellar, Dahlkemper, Davis (AL), Davis (TN), Donnelly (IN), Doyle, Driehaus, Ellsworth, Etheridge, Gordon (TN), Griffith, Hill, Holden, Kanjorski, Kaptur, Kildee, Langevin, Lipinski, Lynch, Marshall, Matheson, McIntyre, Melancon, Michaud, Mollohan, Murtha, Neal (MA), Oberstar, Obey, Ortiz, Perriello, Peterson, Pomeroy, Rahall, Reyes, Rodriguez, Ross, Ryan (OH), Salazar, Shuler, Skelton, Snyder, Space, Spratt, Stupak, Tanner, Taylor, Teague, Wilson (OH)

You do some searches on these people and you will realise many of them are not pro life. 1 vote for the stupak amendment although commendable does not make them pro life. Take Michaud, he has a mixed record on abortion, he supports embryonic stem cell research

Pro life groups were speaking out about the abortion premium in the law and the Hyde amendment did not apply to ObamaTax and if these democrats had listened and trusted these pro life groups maybe they would not of not lost their seats

Of course not, I am not that dumb. I just wanted to expose how extremist hard right-wing your thinking is, given how facile your dismissal is of any dissenters, even Republican ones.

Oh I’m exposed now. Like there was any question of my politics. I am sure everyone is so grateful for your calling me out like that. Many thought they could convince me to change my vote to Obama…he’s such a strong pro-life candidate and advocate for the Church’s religious freedom…puh-lease.

It still doesn’t make your perspective or your sources any more credible.

Why are defenders of traditional values always labelled as “extreme?”

Many thought they could convince me to change my vote to Obama…
Really? That’s naive.

I will vote for Obama though. As a practicing Catholic I am pro-life as well, but I am not a one-issue voter. As to whether Catholics are even allowed to vote for Obama, this has been discussed ad nauseam on this board, and I won’t get into a repeat discussion. I vote with my conscience.

BTW, had Huntsman been the candidate (a politician with far more wisdom, accomplishments and credentials than Romney),
a) he would have given Obama a run for the money unlike Mittyboy
b) there would have been a good chance that I would have voted for him. After all, I am not a leftist, but a centrist, and moderate conservatism done well can be very attractive.

I find it amazing that people claim they would vote for Huntsman - especially liberals. They obviously have no idea what his positions were/are on many issues like social security and entitlements.
