His mother was the daughter of a bank vice president in Hawaii. And when they lived in Indonesia, they lived in the best neighborhoods and attended private schools. Don’t give me that sob story stuff. It’s malarkey.

Yes and the other sob story about his mother being denied health insurance as the inspiration for Obamacare was also baloney. His mother HAD health insurance. She was diagnosed with cancer and sought treatment (I believe she came back to America for that treatment). However it was not HEALTH insurance she was denied, she apparently tried to get disability insurance after being diagnosed with cancer and that’s kind of a non-starter. She fought the disability company when it denied her a policy.

Obama went to a prep school while in Hawaii. We’re not talking the child of some inner city single mom. He had a quite privileged upbringing from a financial perspective. I read that his education cost close to a million dollars between Occidental and Harvard. It may be why he pushes more Pell grants and student loans given the cost of an education now.

But if you want to read a REALLY fascinating story about a black man who grew up DIRT POOR, single mom, raised by grandparents, worked his way through college…read Justice Clarence Thomas’s bio. Obama’s life hardly encompasses the ‘up from poverty’ meme that he and his supporters claim.

Along with his own autobiography, there is a fascinating story about Justice Thomas and how Catholicism was instrumental in his life. There was a Holy Cross Priest who recruited twenty black men to attend Holy Cross shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. This was considered not only daring but foolish by many. Fr Brooks believed in the dream of Rev King and wanted to integrate the college. This move changed history as these men became leaders in various areas of society. These are the kind of stories that make me very proud to be a part of the Church.

Sorry off topic but I suspect a lot of people are unaware of how influential our Church was in the Civil Rights movement.

blah blah blah. Do you have any stats to back up your absurd claims? I didn’t think so. My question for you is, if you are a returning Catholic, why do you support a party that supports butchering the unborn? Answer that question and we can go from there.

Been reading the Dem talking point list again? You might want to recheck some of that. Factcheck.org is a good starting point.

Without looking it up, 47th in job creation was when he took office…it went up to something like 26th within 2 years of taking over. I know…don’t interject facts into your propaganda. Sorry, can’t help it. I just have a thing for the truth.

Not to disagree, but I think Obama probably does give to charity. Just probably not as much as Romney. So he does give more of his income in all likelihood, but romney definitely gives more to charity.

Are our destinies bound together with the future citizens of our country who just need a chance for life?
Does a pregnant woman ask “what’s in it for me” or does she think of her child?
Do we have a commitment to unborn babies?
Is killing them loving or charitable?
Did millions die to protect the freedom to abort?

I’m not really sure where the controversy is. everything he said is a fact. and who would argue that it’s not intentional. Liberal philosophy has the same loving and compassion that conservatives claim - they just get there differently. the theory is wonderful and loving, but the truth is that a big all providing government is horribly inefficient, at least as full of corruption as capitalism, and produces as an end product a human being that is dependent and lacks self sufficiency skills and many times self respect. But they DO continue to vote for the candidate that promises to keep the “trough” filled!

China, USSR, and now Europe are vivid examples. A feeling of “entitlement” is upon us. Just look at each successive generation of American children - progressively lavished with stuff they didn’t “work for,” and now can’t understand why no one is continuing to provide for them.
My parent’s generation DID “build this,” and unfortunately the “greatest” generation has left us. I’m very sorry Dad.

Seekerz when will the Left get over that canard? Conservatives are FAR more charitable than those on the Left who feel they have discharged duty to their fellow man by voting that other people pay more taxes.

What Republican has said “survival of the fittest” or “you’re on your own.” Those are DEMOCRAT talking points and unsupported claims made in an effort to demean those who want to protect life before birth.

Who is running the pregnancy care centers (not abortion mills) who is volunteering in shelters and soup kitchens and taking in foster children? The Left?

I believe both sides care about the poor and those struggling to make it in our country. The difference is in the approach not the intention. We believe our approach is not only more charitable but also more effective. The Leftist big government approach has failed and if anything has institutionalized poverty.

We need a different approach but first we need compassion for all human beings. If human life is devalued unless someone decides it is of value, where to begin?
