😃 Oh wow, what a small world. How come you did not enter the Toledo Visitation? Did you make a visit? I am going to make a 7 day visit, and my best friend Anne, will write/email a letter to Mother Mary Bernard, and tell her all about me. We have known each other for over 11 years. We are very close, like a siblings. Everyone thinks she is older than me. But in fact, she is 3 years younger than me. I love her very much. She sings in choir at our church, along with 3 other people. One young girl’s name, is Shannon, who is 15. Oh she has the voice of an Angel.

Back to their order. I am also discerning with two other communities. A Dominican contemplative one in Ortonville, MI. They are a small community, and accept women over 40. They do wear a habit/veil, belt, and the rosary. I am very interested in them also. I plan to make a 7 day visit there also.

The last one, Capuchin Poor Clares, in Amarillo,TX. They accept any woman that has a true, religious call to the contemplative life. They wear the habit of St.Clare. Much like that of Mother Angelica’s order.

For anyone reading this, if you check in with the Institute of Religious Life, you can gain alot of insight, on the many different communities.

Catholic Answers Live radio show

4:00 PM Pacific time

I am hoping someone will be able to listen to today’s 4:00PM (Pacific time) Catholic Answers radio show and let us know if there are any Sister Rosalind updates. Unfortunately, I will not be able to listen today.

:o I agree. There are communities out there that are open to those in their 50’s. Although some communities have recently set stricter age limits, there are others that are open to more mature woman, even in middle to late 50’s. You might have to do a lot of searching, but they are out there.
As one who would be considered a “late vocation,” I would like to note that, after having inquired of several communities, it’s not getting any easier out there if you’re interested in a traditional, full-habit community. Seeing Visitation novices in their 70’s can be misleading, as they seem to be special cases. The Visitation of Tyringham, MA, rejected my inquiry saying they weren’t accepting any more older candidates as their median age is now 58, and it wouldn’t be in the best interest of the community to keep taking late vocations. I received the same type of response from the Visitation at Monte Maria in Virginia, whose age cutoff is now 59, and from the Visitation in Philadelphia. A community of Dominicans in Connecticut also turned me down because they (1) have found that older women don’t do well in their life and (2) they feared I would miss my children, even though they are grown and independent.

It’s very frustrating when you’re trying to find someone who will at least give you a change to discern a calling. I’m trying not to get too discouraged 😦 and I’m hoping that Rosalind Moss will persist in her desire to start a community that is not so much “hung up” on age, especially if a woman is productive and in good health.

St. Thomas More said something like,“Never trouble yourself over anything that should happen to you in this world. Nothing can come but what God wills.” So, I’m trying not to feel sorry for myself in being rejected in this way.

Hello Cossette:) ,

I too had a very difficult time trying to get replies from certain communities that wear the full, traditional habit/veil, as it seemed to me that Our Lady and Our Lord, wanted me to do this for them.

I became knowledgable about the Institute for Religious Life website. The communities ALL wear habits, and thier are some I have never even heard of. Their is a new community in Des Moines, IA., and they wear the full, traditional, Franciscan Habit. It looks identical to Mother Angelica’s order. Their are 4 sisters, and they are Contemplative/Active.

They have no website up yet. Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus (FEHJ). You mau call up the Des Moines Vocation Office. You can speak to Sr.Clare. If I locate the address I will post it on here for everyone.

I am 47, as of last year. Never married, no children. And my groom to be? My Lord:D Also if you log onto www.vocationsplacement.org you can fill out the questionaire, and receive many communities websites.

I am discerning with three communities that have no age limit. They told me “If you have a true vocation from God, He wouldn’t of sent you to us!” I was very open about my mild, very mild, case of Epilepsy. and that I live a normal life. I just take 2 meds, drive, work, and have many hobbies.

They are: Capuchin Poor Clares in Amarillo,TX; Dominican nuns in Ortonville, MI; and the Visitation Nuns in Toledo, OH. I will be doing a 3 month live in with the first community this spring, and visiting the others as well.

So, do not give up hope!! I will pray for you and everyone else on this forum.

In the Holy Family Name,

Clare Therese:love: :nun1: :hug3:

PS. Have you tried the Sisters of St.Rita? They wear a modified habit, but I believe have no age limit. Are u seeking a contemplative order or an active one. Everytime I lean towards an active one, Our Lord pulls be back, and draws me to the cloister.

There is a few beautiful quotes from CMSWR about Prayer life/Eucharistic Adoration by the Franciscans that you mentioned:
As the evening sun settles down in the western sky Sisters assembled in the chapel for their time with the Lord. The evening prayer consists the Liturgy of Hours and Eucharistic adoration. The most precious time of the day to regain the graces to continue the daily tasks of their life.
Sisters prepared the altar beautifully. They welcomed the Eucharistic Lord with the melodious song,
“Sacred Heart of Jesus
Truly present in the Blessed Sacrament
We place all our trust in you…"
Yes, one hour Eucharistic Adoration in the evening is the source of life and light to all the members of our community. This is the time we share our joys and sorrows of the day to our Beloved Lord. In the sweet serene tranquility of the chapel we raise our heart, mind and soul to enjoy the real presence of Jesus. He comes to renew our life at this time. This is a time of healing, a time of purification, a time of renewal. In the midst of trials tribulations of our life Eucharistic Adoration fills us with heavenly strength, joy and peace.
Most of our communities have one hour adoration with the evening vespers. Sisters choose the following days’ gospel or any other theme as the subject of their silent adoration. It concludes with the divine mercy chaplet. We started Eucharistic adoration as a daily practice to fulfill the following exhortation given in the Constitution of our Congregation and Canon Law, “all should adore the Lord with a pure and sincere heart, with joy and thanksgiving” (Can. 663.1, Constitution FIH, art. 9). Eucharistic adoration fulfills the words of Jesus in us, “ Whoever remains in Me, and I in him shall bear much fruit, because without Me, you can do nothing” (Jn.15:5).

Apparently, the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus used to have a website that no longer works. Here’s the link in case you want to keep an eye on it:

🙂 Okay, just a small note. I tried that link, for the FEJH’s. and it did not bring me to them. They sent me literature on their community and their daily routine. Also their apostolate. Oh, and newletters that they print up. Sr.Clare is a wonderful sister, and very funny.
Thanks for putting the correct address up!!👍

Today I start to give my all to my Lord. Because I am a sinner. I shall lay beneath the Cross, and die for Him. He died for us. I shall be shed of my clothing, whipped, and bleeding all for Him. I will carry my own Cross, in the place of His. Please, nail my hands, feet, and give me the Crown of Thorns. Pierce my side, all for the Love of MY LORD. Hang me on the Cross, and have me say to MY LORD," Will you have me now Lord? I am a sinner, and wish to die for you, and for all sinners. You are my all, and my Groom to be. I have done this all for you". :signofcross:

Today is the beginning of Ash Wednesday—Lent.:bible1: :bible1:

I tried emailing the Toledo, Monte Maria, & Philly Visitation
Monasteries. I am 65, an ex-religious of active life, & all
daid they just changed their age limit…I live in So. America
(but am still a US citizen) and I have lots of trouble with snail
mail (4-6 weeks to get to the USA!) so I need to go thru email.
Since the Snellville & Mobile Visitation Monasteries do not
have email, I was not able to contact them. I have a friend who
just re-entered the Mobile Visitation & she is older than I. I made
a week-long retreat there in 2005 & they seem very solid &
wear the trad. habit. They do have a very informative website.
(Just Google Mobile Visitation) They are few & mostly older
& are in need of vocations of all ages. The Superior`s name is
Mother Rose Marie. They have a fax # on their site.

Aside: Does anyone have Sister Rosalind`s email address?

She’s beautiful! Her habit reminds me a little of the Sisters of Life. 😃
Charisms and habits evolve. She started off with blue Carmelite, and last I heard had something like Benedictine. But this almost shows reverse Nashville Dominican (upon which the Sisters of Life based theirs).

Wouldn’t that be something: black tunic, scapular, capelet and white veil with co-mingled Star of David and Cross.

Don’t anyone quote me on that–it’s pure speculation!

Cloisters
