There’s nothing anywhere in the Word of God that even remotely justifies this. Please explain why you adhered to an unscriptural teaching of men? 🙂
Baptized as a baby- catholic
Baptized as an adult when I became born again.
I went to Israel and got baptized again in the Jordan.
The second one was the one that really mattered to me.
The Jordan was just sort of ceremonial.

I’ve been baptized 3 times. Once in the river Jordan!
Before you get baptized anymore times, you might want to read Hebrews chapter 6, since it is talking about Christians falling away from the faith, and trying to be re-baptized again when they came back to the faith.

I think we could also apply it to people who think that they need to be re-baptized for any reason, unless of course the first baptism was invalid.

Hebrews 6:1-6
Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance to maturity, without laying the foundation all over again: repentance from dead works and faith in God, **instruction about baptisms **and laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. And we shall do this, if only God permits. For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift and shared in the holy Spirit and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to bring them to repentance again, since they are recrucifying the Son of God for themselves and holding him up to contempt.

Never said it was…but even St. Paul tells us that the law is there to convict us of sin.

Yep…we Catholics can go to Mass every single day (twice a day in fact to receive the Eucharist!), but I don’t see n-Cs doing anything like that.

If you enter eternity with an unconfessed and unrepentant grave sin in your life after having “got saved” sometime in the past, will you still enter heaven Newbie?
Yes I will enter heaven. Jesus paid for all my sins past present and future.
Do you really think after living a pious life and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, God will turn you away from heaven for missing one weeks mass and not repenting for it?

Can you provide any biblical support for this?

As a catholic I never tasted the heavenly gift because I did not understand the sin issue and as an infant I definitely didn’t understand the sin issue. So the first baptism didn’t matter to me. When I became an adult, I understood that I needed a
Savior because I am a sinner. The baptism is a symbolic cleansing rebirth from death(under the water) to being born again (coming out of the water)

The real question is…how do you figure that anyone who commits a mortal sin…let’s say murder for instance, and is unrepentant and dies without confessing that sin as per 1st John 1:9 and James 5:16, having “got saved” at some point in their past, will be admitted to heaven when it plainly says that no unclean thing can enter heaven in Revelation 21:27?

Really, then why this?

Acts Of Apostles 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? Rise up, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, invoking his name.

Do you think God spared Ananias and his wife Sapphira?
Or did he just kill them to get them into heaven quicker so he could spend time with them?

Acts 4:36 to 5:11
Thus Joseph, also named by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), a Levite, a Cypriot by birth, sold a piece of property that he owned, then brought the money and put it at the feet of the apostles. A man named Ananias, however, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. He retained for himself, with his wife’s knowledge, some of the purchase price, took the remainder, and put it at the feet of the apostles. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart so that **you lied to the holy Spirit **and retained part of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain yours? And when it was sold, was it not still under your control? Why did you contrive this deed? You have lied not to human beings, but to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last, and great fear came upon all who heard of it. The young men came and wrapped him up, then carried him out and buried him. After an interval of about three hours, his wife came in, unaware of what had happened. Peter said to her, “Tell me, did you sell the land for this amount?” She answered, “Yes, for that amount.” Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen, the footsteps of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” At once, she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men entered they found her dead, so they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things

As soon as you accept Christ and repent you are justified forever.
We have salvation by grace through faith.
However we will still sin because of our carnal nature.
Read rom7:19-25
But there is no condemnation for that sin. Rom8:1

Saul believed when he met Jesus on the way to Damascus.
Then he had to get baptized.

Some say they were never saved in the first place.
Others say if you are justified and still continue to sin, God will take you home. In this instance with Ananias I don’t really know how to explain it.
I don’t know if they ended up in hell or not.
It just says they were killed.

Mk 16:16 One who believes and is batptzed will be saved.
you must believe, first then get baptized
as an infant I could not believe so the baptism doesn’t really count.
Yet the New Testament plainly says that whole households were baptized…which means that infants were also included. Jesus said to suffer the little children to come to Him.

God commanded that the Jews circumcise their sons on the 8th day and the NT plainly compares baptism and circumcision. In the case of the Jews, circumcision was necessary for salvation…why would God do different for His church? (He didn’t). The infant Jews did not make a profession of faith…so why would it be necessary for the children of believers?

I think you have this one all messed up Newbie…

So then you are saying that a person “gets saved” can then sin freely and still get to heaven? That is totally unbiblical Newbie…Matthew 25:31-46 points that out glaringly.

Why would the NT command confession and the apostles be given the authority to hear confessions and absolve sins in John 20:21-23 if that was not necessary.

I think some folks have played loosely with the plan of salvation…and it ain’t the Catholic Church!

I know I won’t convice you of infant baptism, but the Bible shows us that whole households were baptized at once, and though it doesn’t say that there were infants in these households, it also doesn’t say that there were no infants.

We see that with the writings of Origen, Augustine, and the Council of Carthage that it was the practice of the early church to baptize infants. So it would be at least from 244 AD, but probably older since they are writing that it is already the tradition to do this practice.

Acts 16:15-16
One of them, a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth, from the city of Thyatira, a worshiper of God, listened, and the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what Paul was saying. After she and her household had been baptized, she offered us an invitation, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home,” and she prevailed on us.

Acts 16:33
He (The Jailer) took them in at that hour of the night and bathed their wounds; then **he and all his family were baptized **at once.

1 Cor. 1:16
(**I baptized the household of Stephanas **also; beyond that I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.)

Origen, wrote in the third century that “according to the usage of the Church, baptism is given even to infants” (Holilies on Leviticus, 8:3:11 [A.D. 244]).

The Council of Carthage, in 253, condemned the opinion that baptism should be withheld from infants until the eighth day after birth.
Augustine taught, “The custom of Mother Church in** baptizing infants is certainly not to be scorned** . . . nor is it to be believed that its tradition is anything except apostolic” (Literal Interpretation of Genesis 10:23:39 [A.D. 408]).

Yet the New Testament and the teaching of the Catholic Church are in line with each other on this issue. How can one be uncertain on a matter that is spelled out?

If there is confusion, then where does the NT tell us that confusion comes from? Not the Holy Spirit, that’s for sure, right Bro?

Circumcision was a sign of the covenant between God and Abraham. OT saints were not saved by circumcision. They were saved by their faith.Rom4:3

The bible doesn’t say that they were never saved, they were living in the new Christian community, they were probably one of the people who were baptized in Jerusalem when they heard Peter preach.

I think that the “they were never saved in the first place”, is a cop out for the people who preach once saved always saved.
I believe that they say this to keep their doctrine in place and to explain why people who seem to be saved, might actually go to Hell if they commit mortal sin and die before they repent.

Maybe they went to purgatory for lying to he Holy Spirit.
😃

So the church teaches that they went to hell for lying to the Holy Spirit?
Even though the text does not say where they ended up.
