And please, spare me the rants about lawsuits. It’s been beaten to death. Those people don’t represent all gay people anymore than you represent all catholics.

As a matter of fact, I’m not going to engage in any arguments here. I came and said what I wanted to say. Naomily, I truly hope you follow your heart don’t let the church hold you back. You deserve happiness. Don’t let these people convince you that leaving the church or disagreeing with the church will condemn your soul. Only you and you alone know what your relationship with God is like. I really do wish you the best.

I guess this post really sums up the problem. You DESERVE to be able to do what ever makes you happy. There are no consequences as long as you are true to your sexual attraction.

This is a very sad post.😦 And not because of the Church’s teachings.

I said we deserve to be happy.
Good. I think we’re getting somewhere, in terms of identifying core beliefs.

Christianity, properly understood, doesn’t teach that we deserve to be happy. It teaches that happiness is a free gift that we receive, not because we deserve it, but because God loves us.

As such, Christianity teaches that many (if not most) actions rooted in the belief that “I deserve to be happy” are destructive. Such actions deny our utter dependence on God for happiness.

You’re free to disagree, of course.

I never said that I or the original poster “deserve to do whatever we want to make us happy”. I said we deserve to be happy.
What is the difference? Why do you deserve to be happy?
What consequences?
Are you talking about consequences on my soul? Well, that’s between me and God.
Yes, to your soul and, while that may be between you and God, we are called to help each other get to Heaven. So, we do have an obligation, as children of God, to point out when someone is putting their eternal soul in danger.
But, as I said before, I am the way God made me just as the original poster is the way God made her.
Of course you are. I don’t dispute that and neither does the Church.

It’s agreeing with the devil that would condemn her soul. And I really don’t see how that’s wishing her the best.

Oh, please. You know very well what he meant by “I wish you the best”. You may disagree with his ideas about what is good, but you have absolutely no reason to question his sincerity.

Many create a god in their own image and likeness. A god just happens to approve of the way they live their life.

So we don’t need a Church at all? Live you life the way you want, convince yourself God approves. I don’t think I am going to reject two thousand years of teachings and traditions because I feel my life will be happier if I sin.

Can see this thread being closed, just goes to show that these discussions on this particular sin can never be discussed peacefully as everyone thinks they are right in their opinion.

OP

would you answer post 6?

No worries if not I was just curious about what was actually said.

I would say, stay with our church, stay with your relationship to Christ no matter how hard it gets, I’ve been through some of what you said, although I would never label myself as anything but a human being and a child of God. As we all are from every walk of life.

Take care

Maybe I’m just ignorant, but why would that answer be a) a lie
If she was not a friend, but a one-night-stand for example. They’d never met before and would never meet again, just a casual pick-up in a bar. Staying in the closet requires lying.
I can’t just look at someone and know that they are gay.
Then you don’t have gaydar. A gay friend said, “they are looking at you the same way you are looking at them.” If you aren’t gay then you are lacking the second element of the equation.

They don’t have to do that. They already are created in God’s image and likeness. The resemblance was there from the start for everyone.

“She is a friend.” End of discussion.

That also goes beyond just being gay. The OP is having problems with the way she has felt about being gay because of the teachings of the Church and the actions of those who are Catholic. There is a difference between being gay and having sex.

Got me there!

Oh dear,
Why oh why does everyone continually rant about sin. Why can we not leave other peoples private relationships alone. Why does anyone feel there is a God-given Catholic right for us to presume to suggest that anyone is in sinful or impure relationships. What a cheek!
God is LOVE. Why do we feel the need to ‘save’ others from sin. Let us look to ourselves and leave the private lives of others to Our Lord, who is love personified and told us to ‘Love one another as I have loved you’

The Catholic Church has been wrong on some issues in the past.
The church has never claimed to be right about everything. She does claim, however, to be right in her fundamental doctrines which have been taught infallibly (although never defined as infallible). Her teaching on the sinfulness of homosexual behavior falls into that category. It is a doctrine which has been taught unchanged for 2000 years. The rejection of such a doctrine is a rejection of the claims the church makes about herself, and if the church is wrong on a point which has been infallibly taught then Catholicism is meaningless.

Ummm, maybe because the OP came to the internet looking for support and advice?

Don’t blame people for chiming in when that is what was requested. If you want unconditional support for anything you post, this probably isn’t the place for that. I haven’t see anything but kind, loving attitudes from the people who in fact stand with the Church and reinforce her teachings.

Why does that bother you more than the posts encouraging things like abandoning the Church?

As Aggie said, do you know how many men would be thrilled if the Church suddenly allowed them to wallow in pornography, something that is an addiction for millions of them? I doubt they’d find support on their preusing of pornographic websites. They’d be told, and rightly so, to turn to christ with their struggles and fight on, like the Saints did.

They don’t have to do that. They already are created in God’s image and likeness. The resemblance was there from the start for everyone.

Why are you saying this when you don’t even believe in God?
