Funny, Geldain, it was just yesterday that you called me a “commie liberal” in the thread about Mass. mandatory health care bill. That would be posts 11, 13 and 15, to refresh your memory. And you seemed to think it was a perfectly okay thing to say. So you seem to be operating on a double standard.

Once again, I’d like to point out the double standard. People can talk about “commie libs” (or Communist Liberals) and nary a word is said, yea they are defended and their posts get "amens from fellow “conservatives,” but someone talks about a part of the country being backwards and it’s just horrific. Noted.

The backwards comment was a bit much and I retract it if that will end this little spat. Just expect me to be on the lookout for your side doing the same thing, okay?

Conservative does not equal religious. I know many people who are very conservative, but are not religious at all- and don’t have much in the morality department either. They simply hate gay people and Mexicans and want tax breaks even if it means funding for education, health care, or services for the disabled (for those who can’t totally live on their own, but don’t need to live in an institution if they can have someone come by a few times a day to help them eat or something) get cut. They have no problem with having sex with whoever- as long as it’s not someone of the same sex.

I really don’t think Atlanta qualifies as the buckle of the Bible Belt. I’d vote for Tennessee, or Nashville if you want to pin it on a city.

I think the Bible belt has many buckles. I’ve heard of Springfield Missouri, Tulsa Oklahoma, Dallas, Nashville, Birmingham, and Atlanta all being the buckle of the bible belt. I think it just means something important to Evangelical Christianity is there. Tulsa Oklahoma has Oral Roberts University, Dallas has a big seminary there and a good number of megachurches, I think the Assembly of God headquarters is in Springfield. I don’t remember what’s in the other cities.

I also have lived in many areas of our great nation, but I am not an anuthority. So you have no right to be judgemental based on any number of years living there. Were you trying to evangelize when you lived there? There are too many variables for me to take your word for this nor would it be Catholic to gossip to such a degree.

If I were to make a comment about communists or liberals, I am not naming names or areas of the country. I don’t think you should either. A conservative has certain things they espouse, so what is wrong with that? I think you are mixing up conservative with something extreme, like maybe some mix up liberal with communist. There is a continuium. We are all on it somewhere.

There is no area of this country that we can say is backwards. That is really a very bad way to color an area.

'Twas a general statement. It frosts me to see people lambasted when they criticize one part of the country (one that votes “conservative”) but it’s open season on other parts (ones that vote “liberal”). If you’re consistent, then I have no quarrel.
