Ironic those that support Mr. Make America Great Again simply cannot accept that we could at least have been mediocre in medicine. The deaths to this scale were avoided in other countries.

President Trump did act early and strict and was criticized.7_Sorrows:![]()
If Trump had acted earlier and stricter (like the countries who got the virus under control) then 160,000 would be substantially lower. If you really believe 160,000 dead could have been avoided - there is no use having a discussion.
He did not. What did he do in February?President Trump did act early and strict and was criticized.
And they are currently ahead of the U.S. now too - in a big way. Yesterday only 2 deaths in Italy. In the US yesterday there were 554. It would be wonderful if we could be where Italy is now!Who is to say we won’t be where Italy is in the future? Italy was ahead of the U.S.
He did nothing in February and even later. I watched him on tv publicly stating he was not responsible for taking action and that it was up to the states. With the shortage of PPE he made the states compete against each other and against the federal government to bid for the PPE resulting in huge increase in prices. NO NATIONAL PLAN.Have you bothered to read the link provided by JBuky on this thread. The comprehensive data is very enlightening.
Just like Trump you are using total actual number of cases to compare with other countries. That is NOT how you do comparisons with other countries.Need we remember, the US is the 3rd most populated country on earth. We would tend to have more than countries a sixth our size.
With 213 countries affected by covid-19 I would say having 205 in better shape than the US with regard to confirmed cases and deaths is nothing to boast about (I"m not saying you are doing this - it’s a general comment).I am not sure why we need to compare the U.S. to other countries in the
first place, but, yes, per capita, we are around number 8 - not number 1 in the death rate.
There are so many other variables to consider as well.
Here in the Philippines confinement at home is mandatory. Here in Manila a quarantine pass is required for one household member only to go out for essentials - food, medicine/doctor/hospital, banks. Outside the wearing of masks is mandatory. Anyone caught without a mask or breaking quarantine get a warning for first offence. For subsequent offences fines and jail.So please explain how you prevent people from getting sick during a pandemic without literally locking them in their houses. You can’t control people’s behavior.
And the total population of both is…?Yesterday only 2 deaths in Italy. In the US yesterday there were 554. It would be wonderful if we could be where Italy is now!
Go ahead. Divide each of those numbers by the population of their respective nations.LeafByNiggle:![]()

Total numbers mean nothing without a common denominator.
Yes. Per Capita is still based on testing… How many, what % of the population… what testing methods were used to determine all sorts of things with currently non standard procedures. Any comparisons are pretty much moot without any standardized total measuring system and methodology. So these statistics mean nothing…There are so many other variables to consider as well.
